Colorado Beer NewsToday is President's Day. President's Day is typically a government holiday and many businesses are closed. This is a three day weekend for many of us. It's a day for sales, enjoying the weekend one day longer. And what better way to extend your weekend than enjoying a great local craft beer with friends. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, February 18th, 2013.

Metro Denver

Prost Brewing Company (Denver) - Mondays just got better. You'll get 2 for 1 growler fills on Mondays and also get double punches on your Growler Card at Prost. Celebrate President's Day with a double fill up.

Parry's Pizza (Highlands Ranch & Castle Rock) - Don't forget - Parry's has special $3 pints for the entire month of February at both their Highlands Ranch and Castle Rock locations. Try one of these: Great Divide Titan IPA, Big Sky Moose Drool Brown Ale, Fort Collins Brewery 1900 Amber Lager, New Belgium Shift Pale Lager or Woodchucks Amber Cider. Goes great with their pizzas!

Copper Kettle Brewing Company (Denver) - Tonight is trivia night at Copper Kettle. Sign up and get ready to play at 6:30pm. You can help them kill their last keg of Oak Aged Double IPA.

Wynkoop Brewing Company (Denver) - This Saturday at the Wynkoop at 2:00pm it's the national finals of the 2013 Beerdrinker of the Year. Come watch 3 finalists compete to win Free Beer for Life and be awarded the title of 2013 Beerdrinker of the Year. A panel of wigged and robed judges will quiz the finalists in an anything goes battle of wits, beer experience and overall beer knowledge. Free to attend and watch.

The Brew on Broadway (Englewood) - Today The BoB announced that they have officially received their Brewers Notice from the Federal Government. The next step is to secure licensing from the State of Colorado. Then let the brewing begin! Stay tuned for news on their target opening date.

Boulder County

Fate Brewing Company (Boulder) - Yes, they are indeed open for President's Day. They've got several house collaboration beers on tap including: Cherry FATE - a Cherry Foreign Stout, Twist of FATE - a Rye Brown Ale, Eisbock, and Asher's FATE Cocoa Punk'n Porter. Add to that 17 American crafts on guest taps as well as 6 imports on draft. Stop in for lunch or dinner too.

Northern Colorado

The Fort Collins Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Want to be a guinea pig in the name of beer science? Come to FCB's special Test Tube beer release events on Tuesday, February 19th (Tap Club members) and on Wednesday, February 20th. They'll be offering up 2 different experimental beers - Test Tube #1 and Test Tube #2 - two versions of an Imperial Extra Pale Ale that are competing to become their new summer seasonal which will be released in 4 packs and on draft. They want your opinion on which brew will become their new summer seasonal - stop in and try them and let them know what you think. While you're there - check out their featured brew - FCB's Double Chocolate Stout.

High Hops Brewery (Windsor) - Don't forget! There's still tickets available to tomorrows Choice City Butcher & Deli beer and food pairing dinner with High Hops Brewery. To reserve your spot - call 970.490.2489 to RSVP. 5 beers, 4 courses, 6:30pm 1st beer, 7:00pm first course, $55/person.

Black Bottle Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Drink like a president today. Get $1 off all Black Bottle beers all day long! As the late president Ronald Reagan once said - "Go ahead - make my day!".

Odell Brewing (Ft. Collins) - As the Steve Miller Band once sang "really love your peaches, wanna shake your tree". Odell Brewing must have really embraced that song as they are planning to release a new beer soon called "Tree Shaker Imperial Peach IPA". This beer will be bottle conditioned in cage-n-corked 750ml bottles. The beer will weigh in at 9.7% ABV and is made with over 3000 pounds of pureed Colorado peaches. It's a sweet citrusy hoppy brew. Look for this to debut in the near future as part of Odell's Cellar Series. Also coming later this year is Odell's new "Loose Leaf American Session Ale", a hop forward 4.5% ABV sessionable brew.

Choice City Butcher & Deli (Ft. Collins) - Tickets go on sale at 3pm for the 5pm tapping of Russian River's highly rated Pliny the Younger today. How early will you get in line to get a pint of the #2 Beer in the World? This brew weighs in at 10.25% ABV - so come prepared!

Southern Front Range

Phantom Canyon Brewing (Colorado Springs) - Did you know you can play pool free every day until 6:00pm with any purchase. And on Mondays, you can play pool all night as well with any purchase. President's Day is the perfect day to work on your pool hall skills!

Trinity Brewing (Colorado Springs) - According to an article in the Denver Post's First Draft blog, Trinity Brewing has reported signed a new distribution deal that will bring more of it's beers to more areas around Colorado. Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins will start seeing more of Trinity's beers starting in March 2013. Some small mountain towns like Glenwood Springs will also see some Trinity brews as well. Around 16 different Trinity beers will be distributed including TPS Report. Read the full story here.

Pikes Peak Brewing (Monument) - Just for President's Day - if you bring in a George Washington ($1) you can trade that in for your first PPBC beer today until 5pm. Bet you'll want to have more than just 1 though.

Hops & Pie (Denver) - Special taps were just put on recently. Come try one of these: Odell Amuste, The Bruery's Saison De Lente, Elevation Beer's Senorita Horchata, Jolly Pumpkin's Maracaibo Especial, Avery's Maharaja Imperial IPA, and Firestone Walker's Wookey Jack. Lucky Pie Lodo (Denver) - Are you a fan of California's Lagunitas Brewing Company? If so, this Wednesday at 4pm, Lagunitas will be stopping by Lucky Pie Lodo to showcase three of their beers: Hop Stoopid, IPA and their Imperial Stout. Listen in to some Talking Heads and Greatful Dead music while you sample some of their beers.
