Colorado Beer NewsToday is Love Your Pet Day. Let's face it - our pets are part of the family and they deserve just as much love and attention as people do. It'll even make you feel better in the process. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Wednesday, February 20th, 2013.

Metro Denver

Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) - Today's Wednesday firkin is a Coffee Smoked Porter. It's got just the extra kick you want to keep you going today.

Wynkoop Brewing Company (Denver) - The can roll-out continues! Four packs of their homegrown Belgorado Belgian IPA are now on store shelves at their major stores. Look for the golden cans with the Colorado / Belgium flag.

Black Shirt Brewing (Denver) - The brewery has been working like crazy to bring you more of their favorite BSB Red Ale back on tap. THey will be open tonight from 5-9pm and will have the furnace and tunes cranked up.

Boulder County

Oskar Blues (Longmont) - Something old is back, something new has arrived, and something hoppy just arrived at the Tasty Weasel tap room and at stores. You can now get Mama's Little Yella Pils in a 19.2oz can! Also, the Gubna Imperial IPA is back in cans as well.

Twisted Pine Brewing (Boulder) - Twisted Pine and Women Enjoying Beer are planning to host a special event "Mmm! Cooking With Beer" with Ginger Johnson. This cooking workshop will be held on Sunday, February 24th from 12pm to 1:30pm at Twisted Pine (3201 Walnut Street in Boulder). Learn how to cook better with beer. Beer sampling will be included. Tickets available on EventBrite.

Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery (Boulder) - Just about 1 more week remains in the 20th Anniversary of Stout Month at all 3 locations. This Friday, stop in for a taste of an Odell/Mountain Sun collaboration beer - Mutual Respect Belgian Coffee Stout. Then on Tuesday, February 26th, try their Bourbon Barrel-Aged Nihilist Imperial Russian Stout. It's big (9.5% ABV) and is aggressively roasty with notes of coffee, chocolate, orange zest and dark fruits. During the next week, sample such beers as: Coconut Cream Stout, Dark Harvest Pumpkin Stout, Dropkick Stout, Megatron Imperial Stout, Norwegian Wheat Stout, Oatimus Prime Imperial Oatmeal Stout, Oat Lord Oatmeal Stout, Old School Dry Irish Stout, Sharkbite Foreign Stout, Trickster Stout, Yonder Mountain Stout. Plus - guest stouts also on tap!

Gravity Brewing (Louisville) - Today at 6pm at the tasting room Gravity Brewing will be hosting another BrewAsanas session. There will be a 1-hour vinyasa flow yoga class taught by Adrienne of Elevate Yoga. Afterwards, enjoy a post-yoga brew with the BeerSnobChick. Cost is $20 and are available at the door. Located at: 1150 Pine Street in Louisville, CO.

Northern Colorado

The Fort Collins Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Westword broke the news yesterday that the Fort Collins Brewery is planning to do a big expansion. By this fall, FCB plans to convert to a new 50-barrel brewing system and also install four new 150 barrel fermenters. The new automated brewhouse equipment should arrive sometime in September. FCB will also stop producing their Incredible Hops series and instead produce seasonal 4-packs including Hoptitude - an Imperial Extra Pale Ale. Beer sales will be focused more on Colorado. High Hops Brewery (Windsor) - Today's Wednesday firkin is Pat's On Oak, it's their Dr. Pat's IPA that's been aged on oak. The firkin taps at 5:00pm. Weather permitting - the Chaulkboard Gourmet Express will be on hand around 4:30pm to serve up some great food to go with your beer. Then, on Friday, February 22nd it's the release of their special Windor's Wee Heavy, a strong Scotch Ale. Have a pint and listen to live music from Ash Ganley from 6pm to 8pm.

Odell Brewing Company (Ft. Collins) - This Thursday, head to Odell Brewing for "Flow for a Cause" - a special fundraiser for the NoCo Rebuilding Network. The $30 entry includes a Yoga Flow class, 2 beers and dinner from Spoons. Please bring your Yoga mat. Live music on hand from The Waido Experience. Event happens tomorrow, Thursday, February 21st from 5:30pm - 7:30pm.

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - There's some new taproom hours. City Star will be staying open later on Wednesdays through Saturdays. New hours are: Mondays 2-9pm, Tuesday 2-9pm, Wednesdays 2-10pm, Thursdays 2-10pm, Fridays 2-10pm, Saturdays 12-10pm, and Sundays 12-9pm. As the days get longer, so do the taproom hours!

Verboten Brewing (Loveland) - Tonight, if the beer gods are ready, Verboten will be tapping their Lemongrass Wit. It'll give you a taste of the warmer seasons ahead. Also, tomorrow night they will be tapping a very special brew (To Be Announced) - stay tuned!

Funkwerks (Ft. Collins) - This week's featured keg is an Orange Spice Saison. They took their flagship Funkwerks Saison and infused it with black tea, orange peel and cinnamon. You're going to want to try this one.

Southern Front Range

Pikes Peak Brewing (Monument) - This Sunday, February 24th come to a unique beer dinner featuring 5 courses all with one common ingredient: Chocolate! Featuring food from Front Range BBQ and beers from Pikes Peak Brewing. Call 719-208-4098 to reserve your spot for the 6pm dinner.

Firkin RendezvousBristol Brewing Company (Colorado Springs) - Don't forget! This weekend is the 9th Annual Firkin Rendezvous at Bristol Brewing Company. Firkins from 25 different Colorado breweries will be on hand - each one a unique creation not normally available at the breweries. Hurry, tickets are going fast. Snag one by calling 719-633-2555. VIP starts at 1pm and General Admission at 2pm. The event runs until 5:00pm. Admission includes beer, food and a souvenir tasting glass.

Mountains and West

Pagosa Brewing Company (Pagosa Springs) - On tap today - Pagosa Brewing releases their Coconut Stout. It's a fan favorite and highly sought after. This batch is limited and won't last long, perhaps just today. So hurry in before the snow hits.

Steamworks Brewing (Durango) - One of their favorite firkins is coming back for March. Steamworks' Firkin Fridays reprises their "Irish Car Bomb", named after the beer's affect (you won't feel it coming). There will be two separate firkin tappings. The first on Firkin Friday on March 1st at the brewpub. Then a second firkin will be tapped at the annual Steamworks "Clam Bake" at Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort on Friday, March 15th.

Rockslide Brewery & Restaurant (Grand Junction) - Wednesday is Mug Club day at the Slide. Join their Mug Club ($25 annual fee) and you'll receive 1/2 price food every Wednesday 4-10pm, $2 pints on Wednesdays, $3 pints, $3 wells, $3 house wine any day and time of the week, plus coupons for free drinks, free clothing and free food. Nice deal eh?

Bars, Restaurants and Misc.

Tony's Bar and Rooftop (Ft. Collins) - Tonight is Brewery Night at Tony's featuring the beers of The Fort Collins Brewery. From 7pm to 11pm tonight, enjoy $1 Red Banshee Pints. Sample a flight of four FCB beers including 1900 Lager, Rocky Mountain IPA, Z Lager and Chocolate Stout. Tony's is located at 224 S. College Avenue in Old Town Fort Collins.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema (Littleton) - This combo beer + food bar / movie theater complex is getting to open and will be hosting Staff Training Days on March 22-24th. During these days, you can see $2 movies and get 1/2 price on their full menu. Have food and beer brought to you right at your seat while you enjoy a movie! Tickets go on sale March 8th. Wilbur's Total Beverage (Ft. Collins) - It's that time again for MARCH IPA MADNESS at Wilbur's. They'll be pairing up 16 different IPA's to side by side blind taste tests. Choose who will end up being Fort Collins' favorite IPA. More details at the store.
