Colorado Beer News 022113

Colorado Beer NewsThe cold winds are blowing. The snows have hit the front range and much needed moisture is soaking into the Colorado soil. For some, it's a snow day, but for others it's another workday closer to the weekend. There are some celebrations, new releases, legal changes and other activities going on. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Thursday, February 21st, 2013.

Metro Denver

Vine Street Pub & Brewery (Denver) - More stouts are hitting the tap for the last week of Stout Month. Today their 48 Smooth Chai Stout and their Dark Harvest Pumpkin Stout return to the taps. A dark rich stout is the perfect brew for this cold snowy weather.

Denver Beer Company (Denver) - In a collaborative effort with Denver Off The Wagon, who is celebrating their 2nd web site anniversary, they will be releasing a brew called Dubbel Entendre - a Dubbel made in celebration of the anniversary. It's on tap now at Denver Beer Co and a few select taps around town (like the Lowry Beer Garden).

Renegade Brewing Company (Denver) - There go the lawyers again! Renegade brewing was issued a cease and desist letter from Sixpoint Brewery in New York to stop using the name Ryeteous on their Rye India Pale Ale. Due to this, Renegade's Ryeteous will be renamed Redacted Rye India Pale Ale, a name that reflects that something was crossed out and changed, in this case, the beer name. Look for the renamed Redacted to be repackaged in new cans this April. Wonder how many words are left in the English language that aren't used in relation to beer? Not many apparently.

Falling Rock Tap House (Denver) - More Pliny the Younger updates! It’s the time of the year for Russian River Pliny the Younger! They have 2 more releases scheduled: Next Saturday February 23rd at 12:30 pm, & next Sunday February 24th at 1pm. Doors will open at our usual time of 11am. Falling Rock will be issuing Tickets that allow you to purchase a glass of Pliny the Younger as people arrive. There will be 2 colors of tickets, if you get the first color, relax, sit down, start a tab, get something to eat & a warm-up beer or two, you’re getting a Younger, the second color, well, Maybe. When it comes time to tap Younger, they’ll sell it to all of the folks with the first color, if you are seated & have a tab with a server, you can stay seated because the server will bring it to you. When they finish serving all the folks with the first color they will do a last call for that color ticket then line up the second color tickets in order & start serving those folks. In order to get a Pliny the Younger you need to be there before they do last call for that color of tickets (usually around 25-30 minutes after they start pouring it) or you lose your chance & giving it to the next persons in line.

Boulder County

Oskar Blues (Longmont) - Have you seen em yet? The new 19.2oz Mama's Little Yella Pils is now available (also) in 19.2oz cans. They're rolling out in Arizona for Spring Training and also at the Tasty Weasel Taproom in Longmont and very soon in stores all across the USA. More Mama to love! Oskar Blues is also planning to start distributing to Michigan starting in the first week of March. They plan to ship all of their beers to that state.

Northern Colorado

Odell Brewing Company (Ft. Collins) - Oh the power of a pilot batch system. Last year in 2012, Odell Brewing created over 90 different beers on their pilot system last year! That's about 1 every 4 days. Several of those pilots became something much more - like Lugene Chocolate Milk Stout.

Loveland Aleworks (Loveland) - 10 taps and they are all filled! Here's what you can expect to sample when you stop by the tasting room today: Tripel, Saison, IPA, Imperial Stout, Belgian Pale Ale, Blackberry wit, Single Hop Imperial IPA, Abbey Grand Cru, and Rye Extra Pale Ale. Vive la difference!

Choice City Butcher & Deli (Ft. Collins) - Speaking of blogger anniversaries - Napa of Beer is turning 1 and writer Lauren Hoff is throwing a 1st Anniversary Party at Choice City on Wednesday, February 27th from 5pm to 9pm. She will be tapping a special brew she collaborated with Odell Brewing and Scene Magazine called Bouquet Array IPA - a floral IPA. There will also be cupcakes and snacks available as well for the party.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Tomorrow is Five Dollar Firkin Friday at Grimm Bros. They'll be tapping a firkin of Spruce Master Thief. It's earthy and piney flavors will accent the soft chocolate and soft coffee characteristic of Master Thief. It'll remind you of a night in the pine forest. Spruce Master Thief taps at noon on Friday, February 22nd.

Pateros Creek Brewing (Ft. Collins) - After you dig out from the snow, head over to Pateros Creek tonight for Geeks Who Drink Trivia. Trivia goes from 7-9pm and you can win some awesome prizes and get some great drink specials to boot.

Southern Front Range

Bristol Brewing Company (Colorado Springs) - Although their new Colorado Springs airport taproom has been open for a couple of weeks now, Bristol Brewing will be throwing an official grand opening today from 4:00pm to 6:00pm along with their neighbor Novo Coffee. Bristol spent $300,000 to convert an old restaurant into the new Bristol Taproom. Airport visitors can not only get one of 6 Bristol brews on tap, but also get food from their restaurant menu. See the full story in the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Mountains and West

Tommyknocker Brewery (Idaho Springs) - Tommyknocker's Mother Lode Sampler Pack has a brand new design! Look for it in stores now. Inside you'll get a variety of 4 brews including Maple Nut Brown Ale, Pick Axe IPA, Jack Whacker Wheat and a brewer's pick (varies by season).

Bars, Restaurants and Misc.

This Day in Colorado Beer History (2009) - On February 21, 2009 Cody Christman from Colorado became the 2009 Beerdrinker of the Year at the Finals at the Wynkoop in downtown Denver.
