Colorado Beer News 031413

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Pi Day. The mathematical value of Pi (π) is roughly 3.14, hence the reference to today's date. You might want to celebrate Pi day with a slice of Pie and a craft beer today. Either that or try solving some equations using the value of Pi like figuring out the circumference of your beer glass. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Thursday, March 14th, 2013.

Metro Denver

Copper Kettle Brewing Co (Denver) - Copper Kettle will be celebrating St. Patrick's Day a wee bit early this year starting on March 15th. They'll be tapping their Dry Irish Stout, having Indigent Row playing live Celtic fusion music from 4:00pm to 7:00pm and inviting the Eighty Ate Food Truck at 4pm to bring Irish themed food for the night. Also, coming up next month, Copper Kettle is preparing to celebrate their two year anniversary with a 4-day party (April 18-21). They are planning to have over 9 different tap releases during that weekend plus offering some aged beers and rotating casks. Stay tuned!

Arvada Beer Company (Arvada) - New beer release! On Tap today. New release O'Harrows Dry Irish Stout on nitro. Also today's Brewers Limited Reserve is Alexander's Alt. Alt beers are malty with noble hops. Sure beats drinking cheap fizzy green beer!

Former Future Brewing Company (Denver) - Join the owners and brewer of Former Future Brewing Company at their first, FREE tasting event, held in the Presidential Suite of the Oxford Hotel on April 13th. Due to the overwhelming response they received, they decided to offer two tastings: 3p-6p, and 7p-10p. Tickets are limited to 2 per person and there are 25 tickets available at each session. They go up for grabs at 2pm today here. They will have food and giveaways, and of course a chance to taste 5 of their beers. What beers? That's a secret! Using historical recipes, they've deconstructed and rebuilt these beers with futuristic interpretations.

Colorado Plus Brewpub (Wheat Ridge) - The brewery let it be known on Facebook today that they are being forced to slightly change their name due to a cease and desist letter they received from Roy Pitz Brewing who apparently has a Federal trademark on the name "Liquid Art LLC". So, going forward, they will be known as Colorado Plus Brewpub or Colorado Plus for short. Ah litigation, a dog that so often rears its nasty bite. The brewpub is planning to open hopefully in April 2013.

Yak & Yeti Restaurant & Brewery (Arvada) - The popular Carrot Cake beer keg is kicked, so they're tapping their Chocolate Frosting Stout today. It has everything in it except the whipped cream. Stop in an try a pint.

Boulder County

Left Hand Brewing (Longmont) - Once every two years, Left Hand Brewing creates their Double IPA "Twin Sisters" and adds double the hops and the malts than their usual IPAs. Once again Twin Sisters Double IPA is back and is headed for kegs and 22oz bottles and will be available in all 26 states that they distribute to. Twin Sisters is describes as: "A literal hop farm with twice the amount of hops as most IPAs, Twin Sisters grabs your nose upfront with its sweet pine and citrusy aromas. Flinty hop flavors take you from dreaming about wildflower honey to the tongue awakening Earthy, bitter hop resins that swirl in to finish. Balanced with a robust, earthy backbone, Twin Sisters is incredibly drinkable and approachable for a double IPA – a signature of Left Hand Brewing Company’s style". This beer will be available for a limited time and won't be back again until 2015 once it's gone.

Fate Brewing Company (Boulder) - With the weather warming up to nearly 70 today and tomorrow, you owe it to yourself to get outside. Why not enjoy a meal with a beer on Fate Brewing's brand new outdoor patio and soak up some sun! Bring your sun block lotion though.

Black Bottle Brewery (Ft. Collins) - New beer release! Today Black Bottle tapped a different approach to a Saison. This beer is hoppy and very low in alcohol at 4.7% ABV. Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - New beer tapping this Friday - stop in for a taste of their Bearskin Dry Stout. It has coffee-like aromas that dominate the nose and palate with a pleasant malt backing. Plus, a solid hop balance and a very dry clean finish. Bearskin taps at noon March 15th.
