Colorado Beer NewsToday is the start of Colorado Craft Beer Week. It's a week long celebration statewide. Dozens of events, tappings, beer specials, tap takeovers, and dinners have been planned for this week. This is a great opportunity for all adults to check out the nearly 170 breweries statewide and sample what Colorado craft beer is all about. For a full list of official Colorado Craft Beer Week events, visit the official web site. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, March 18th, 2013.

Metro Denver

Breckenridge Colorado Craft (Denver) - Come sample cask style beers from 16 Colorado craft brewers. All of these breweries are cooking up something special just for this event. They will tap the Firkins at 6:00pm sharp, don’t be late. Also, be sure to study up on your craft beer knowledge as craft beer themed trivia night. All this in one spot, and it all takes place at Breckenridge Colorado Craft, 2220 Blake St., Denver, Colorado. That's Firkin Awesome is an official Colorado Craft Beer Week Event. Entry is $20 - $15 for SOCIAL members. Show your card or T-shirt for the discount.

Strange Brewing Company (Denver) - Strange Brewing and the Colorado Brewers Guild have brewed up another batch of SOCI-Ale for Colorado Craft Beer Week. SOCI-Ale is a classic Colorado Pale Ale, Brewed with 95% Colorado malts and hops. Strange Brewing will tap this beer Wednesday, March 20th in celebration of Colorado Craft Beer Week. Don't forget, SOCIAL members enjoy $1 off pints at Strange Brewing Company.

Breckenridge Brewery (Denver) - In 2012, Breckenridge Brewery reported a 30% year over year growth and has become the 41st largest craft brewery in the US. However, in order to continue growing, they will be building a new brewery along the South Platte River in Littleton, just south of Denver and be open by the fall of 2014. Breckenridge also started distributing in the San Diego, California area for the first time. Look for Breck's 72 Imperial Chocolate Cream Stout on shelves for a limited time. It's part of their rotating Small Batch Beers series. Next up will be their Regal Pilsner which will be released for the summer season.

Wynkoop Brewing Co (Denver) - Today at 5:00pm marks the release of Wynkoop's new collaboration beer Ellegance, a Belgian-style brown ale brewed at Wynkoop by an all female brewing team representing several Colorado breweries (Wynkoop, Avery, Funkwerks, Odell, Twisted Pine, TRVE, and Prost). The beer is described as "Elegant and highly quaffable, the 5% ABV beer features a creamy beige head, a glorious tea/garnet color, aromas of fruit and hops, flavors of toast and light caramel, hints of spice and a refreshing, lingering hop bite on its finale." - Weighs in at 5% ABV.

Falling Rock Tap House (Denver) - Colorado Craft Beer Week officially begins with an Opening Ceremony at Falling Rock Tap House today at 7:00pm. This is one of several kick-off events for Colorado Craft Beer Week. Falling Rock is doing the ultimate tape takeover. 80 different Colorado breweries on draft in one place. The Colorado Brewers Guild & Falling Rock Tap House invite you to the Opening Event of the Inaugural Colorado Craft Beer Week. The Event will be a Takeover of the Falling Rock's Taps by Breweries from all over Colorado. They've asked Colorado's Brewers to send in a wide variety of their best offerings & they've responded with quite a list. The Event runs from 7pm - 11pm & the Falling Rock will be closed for this ticketed event. The ticket gets you entrance into the Falling Rock & 3oz samples of the beers they've assembled for the night. This should be a memorable night.

Ale House at Amato's (Denver) - Today at the ale house they are having an Upslope Brewing Co. Tap Invasion featuring a cask conditioned Mexican Chocolate Stout, a limited release Rye IPA, and the return of Upslope's Belgian Pale Ale. Celebrate Colorado Craft Beer Week - Drink local!

Dry Dock Brewing (Aurora) - Looking for a new beer on tap for CO Craft Beer Week? Try their Cherry Porter - now on tap. It's a 6.1% ABV, 20 IBU dark wonder.

Boulder County

Left Hand Brewing (Longmont) - The secret is out! Left Hand Brewing released a new video this week that finally describes how they got nitro in their bottles of Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro. Check out the video below or directly on YouTube. Warning: this video may just surprise you.

Oskar Blues (Longmont) - Remember those funky bottle shaped cans that Oskar Blues used for their Chaka and The Deuce beers? Well the possibility for Oskar Blues to do more of those types of "cans" is getting more real. Dave Chichura let it be know on the Under My Host podcast recently that Oskar Blues is considering adding a new Alumi-Tek canning line at some point in the future. This high-speed production line would also be potentially used to bottle their B. Stiff & Sons Root Beer and also their upcoming line of craft spirits. Note that this isn't official (yet) so stay tuned for confirmation.

Twisted Pine Brewing (Boulder) - Just for CO Craft Beer Week - Twisted Pine is tapping a brew called "Deez Nuts", a black walnut brown ale. Stop in and stay for Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz tonight at 8:00pm.

Northern Colorado

New Belgium (Ft. Collins) - Wear your SOCIAL t-shirt to the New Belgium Liquid Center March 19-23 and you will receive a complementary full beer of your choice. It's just New Belgium's way of saying thank you for all the support. The Liquid Center is located at 500 Linden St Fort Collins, CO 80524. Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 10:00am - 6:00pm. Odell Brewing (Ft. Collins) - The TTB just approved a keg label for an upcoming brew from Odell named "A Saison Couple Saison Ale". Look for this brew to appear on select draft accounts in the coming weeks and months.

The Mayor of Old Town (Ft. Collins) - American Craft Beer week begins today! The Mayor will have reps from Avery today @5pm, Breckenridge - Tuesday @5pm, Oskar Blues - Wednesday @5pm & Great Divide - Thursday @5pm. All of these breweries will be bringing swag and delicious special beers for you to try.

The Very Nice Brewing Company (Nederland) - The brewery will be hosting their first Pints & Poses yoga class this Saturday at noon! The cost is $10 for the 1.5 hour class and a pint of beer. The tap room will open to the public after the class. RSVP to them to reserve your spot.

The Tavern at St. Michael's Square (Greeley) - For CO Craft Beer Week - Today's featured Brewery is Oskar Blues. Come grab a $3 can of Dale's Pale, Mama's Little Yella Pils, or Old Chub!

Southern Front Range

Bristol Brewing (Colorado Springs) - CO Craft Beer Week will be busy for Bristol Brewing as they are participating in the following events: Monday 3/18 a beer pairing event at Phantom Canyon from 5pm to 10pm. Also, Brewer's Broads Women's Beer Club Kick-off @ Brewer's Republic in C.Springs from 6pm to 8pm. Tuesday 3/19 Karma Hour from 5pm to 9pm at the brewery featuring a cask of oaked cherry Smokebrush Porter. Wednesday 3/20 - a Pike's Peak Region Tap Takeover at Brewer's Republic from 4pm to 11pm. Thursday 3/21 - CO Craft Tap Takeover at Trinity Brewing from 5pm to 11pm. Friday 3/22 - Apetizer and Beer pairing at Pikes peak Brewing from 5:30pm to 10pm in Monument, CO. Saturday 3/23 is Cask Ale Saturday at Bristol from 12pm to 9pm. Taste some casked raspberries-and-cream Winter warlock.

Phantom Canyon Brewing (Colorado Springs) - Today, the brewery is having a beer special on their Liberator Doppelbock. It's a beer that pays homage to a beer Munich monks brewed in the 1700s to sustain them through Lenten fasting. Phantom's brew weighs in at 8.25% and is served in a snifter glass. Get Happy Hour price on this brew per glass all day!

Mountains and West

Ska Vernal Minthe StoutSka Brewing Company (Durango) - Spring arrives on Wednesday and with that the release of the 3rd in Ska's series of seasonal stouts. Their Spring stout is Vernal Minthe Stout - a stout brewed with peppermint, spearmint, cocoa and vanilla beans. There will be a release party at the brewery from 5pm to 7pm offering $3 pints of this minty brew.

BREW Pub & Kitchen (Durango) - On March 7th, BREW Pub & Kitchen quietly opened their doors and started serving upscale food and beer. They currently have 4 of their own beers - each focusing on one of the 4 main ingredients of beer. Allen - a smokey caramel Scottish Ale highlighting MALT. Adam - a hop forward ale highlighting HOPS. Augustus - a German-style Hefeweizen highlighting YEAST, and Ariel - a cross between a mild and an blonde highlighting sessionable beers (WATER).
