Colorado Beer NewsToday is Major League Baseball Opening Day. The boys of Summer are back! The first pitches of the season happen today as America's pastime returns for another year. It's also the 20th anniversary of the Colorado Rockies. They became a team 20 years ago in 1993. Cheers to that! Watch 'em on TV with a good craft beer. Also, be sure not to be anyone's fool today. Just sayin'. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, April 1st, 2013.

Colorado Brews (TV Show) - Just 5 days until the premiere of the TV show "Colorado Brews" on Rocky Mountain PBS. In Denver, it's on Channel 6 at 9:30pm Mountain Time. This episode focuses on Crabtree Brewing Company in Greeley, Colorado and was filmed just before their move last summer. We need as many people as possible to tune in and give the show some feedback to Rocky Mountain PBS. The show hopes to continue as a regular series starting this Fall.

Metro Denver

Parry's Pizza (Highlands Ranch) - Parry's just added several new Parry's Pints for the month of April. Stop in and try any one of these for just $3 a pint: #9 from Magic Hat Brewing, Helles by Tivoli Brewing, First Cast IPA from Elevation Beer Company, SummerBright Ale from Breckenridge Brewery, and Major Tom's American Wheat from Fort Collins Brewery.

2013 Great American Beer FestivalGreat American Beer Festival (Denver) - It may still be several months away, but already plans for the 2013 Great American Beer Festival are being made. The Brewers Association remains under contract with Ticketmaster again this year and there will be measures in place to help prevent the same issues that occurred last year. Ticket sale dates haven't been announced yet, but stay tuned. Thought you'd like to see the first official promo poster for the 2013 Great American Beer Festival. Set for it's 32 annual run from October 10th through the 12th, 2013 with 4 sessions, 600+ breweries and 2,800+ beers. More details on this year's event at

Black Shirt Brewing (Denver) - There was a rare bottle release on Easter Sunday by Black Bottle Brewery. These released their Black Shirt Brewing Re Evelyn in 32oz counter-pressure filled growlers. This is a big Double IPA. The sale took place for just two hours on Sunday. They have some left on sale at the brewery til they run out. $22 / $5 off when you return your empty bottle.

Colorado Plus (Wheat Ridge) - Their tap system is now in place and their giant 16 foot hood for the kitchen has been installed. Their final inspection is scheduled for April 22nd. Expect to see Colorado Plus open their doors by late April or early May. Beer for Wheat Ridge coming soon!

Boulder County

Twisted Pine Brewing (Boulder) - This Friday, April 5th marks their La Petite Saison release. Spring is here, and Twisted Pine is kicking it off with a tapping of their Colorado State Fair medal-winning La Petite Saison. This style is typically known as an easy drinking summer sipping beer with medium alcohol content. La Petite combines a distinct breadiness followed by subtle notes of apricot and pear as it warms. Also, coming up on April 21st from 2-6pm is their Brewery Olympics / Earth Day celebration. Join in with WILD trivia with prizes. Silent auction with 20+ items.

300 Suns Brewing (Longmont) - These days, to get noticed you have to sometimes do things a bit differently than others. In this case, 300 Suns came up with a unique promotional video to help get people to help them out with their Indiegogo fundraising campaign. Northern Colorado

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - New beer alert! Brewed on the anniversary of their 1st brewing session (3/12/13) - it's their City Star Cowboy's Double Golden. A 6.8% ABV and 43 IBU brew. Made with Saaz hops for spicy and earthy notes and a dry finish. Oddly enough, the first eve batch of their regular Cowboy Golden was made with a double batch and turned into a Cowboy's Double Golden. This brew was well received and is back again this year.

Pateros Creek coffee beersPateros Creek Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Did you make it to the Pateros Coffee Conundrum last Saturday? If not, you missed out on a great coffee beer sampling session. Four different coffee beers were sampled including a Coffee Schwarzbier, a Belgian Double Coffee beer, an English IPA Coffee beer and an Imperial Maple Brown Ale Coffee beer. Pateros Creek partnered with Conundrum Coffee, a local roaster, on these beers. At the first tasting session, the crowd picked the "Ethiopian Shim Sham", the Imperial Maple Brown Ale as their favorite. Brewer Steve Jones stated that the crowd picks would help them select which beers to possibly produce again in the future. Speaking of which, Pateros Creek just got beer can label approval for their next beer to be put into a can - Pateros Creek Rustic Red. Look for this beer to hit store shelves in the near future.

Loveland Aleworks (Loveland) - Pity the fool, but stop in for a fool's pour today. You'll get $3 pours of any of their 3 beers today: Black Blackberry Wit, Sour Saison, and Belgian IPA. Makes Monday better doesn't it?

Southern Front Range

Bristol Brewing Company (Colorado Springs) - Even though it's April Fools Day, their Monday beer special is no joke. Get $3 pints on their flagship beers all day long. Stop in for a pint or two.

Rocky Mountain Brewery (Colorado Springs) - Nerd Night Mondays are BACK! Nerds are once more in the commanders chair, from 6-9pm on Monday nights. Bring in your group for some table top gaming (risk, D&D, apples to apples, cribbage, warhammer, etc...) and receive 10% off your whole groups tab IN ADDITION TO pitchers at growler price! Breckenridge Spring Beer Festival (Breckenridge) - This Saturday, April 6th is the 7th Annual Breckenridge Spring Beer Festival. The streets of Breckenridge will once again be filled with craft beer fans as dozens of breweries will be pouring unlimited tastings of your favorite craft beers. Every April and July, brew masters from around the country get together to show off their best beers for thousands of thirsty beer enthusiasts. Enjoy beer samplings from local and national breweries, while you jam to free live music on the festival stage.
