FATE is releasing their Roggenbier on Monday, April 22nd, 2013. There will be a release party starting at 11:00am featuring all day happy hour pricing for the Roggenbier. This German Style Rye Ale is based on a recipe from medieval times with a rye dominant malt bill. The taste profile exudes a rye breadiness, a spicy fruitiness and a faintly sour and dry finish. Head brewer, Jeff Griffith, describes this beer as "a touch smokey, tart and sweet with characteristics of banana and clove." It's brewed with Hallertau and Styrian Golding hops which balance the pilsner, rye, munich, caramunich and chocoates malts. Stats: 5% ABV, 20 IBU.

Northern Colorado

Funkwerks (Ft. Collins) - The 3rd annual Fort Collins collaboration is underway. Members of Funkwerks, Odell Brewing and New Belgium Brewing were working at Funkwerks this week on a collaborative beer. This time, it's going to be a Biere de Garde that will be brewed with Endive and Rose Hips. Stay tuned for word on when this brew will become available.

Funkwerks also chimed in on their blog today about the tight hop market. Changes to recipes are sometimes required due to shortages with certain hops. They stated: "Unless you are contracting your hops a few years out you may be out of luck. This is especially true of some of the ‘hot’ hops such as Amarillo, Citra, and Sorachi Ace. Seeing the writing on the wall early last year, we contracted for hops I’ve wanted to play with. These include Nelson Sauvin, Amarillo, Sorachi Ace, and Galaxy. We made our first batch of Saison using Nelson Sauvin hops two weeks ago. This is an extremely pale Saison fermented with 10% Muscat grape must. This should be out in April."

Odell Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Fans of their seasonal St. Lupulin take note. This hoppy brew will return for the season on April 20th. While it may still feel like Winter here in Colorado... Summer is coming in the form of this summer seasonal next week.

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) and Big Choice Brewing (Broomfield) are getting together today and are collabo-brewing up a "Anniversar-Rye" beer. Both Colorado breweries opened on May 4th of last year, so for their upcoming brewery birthdays Ryan of City Star and Zach from Big Choice together formulated a special recipe to be released in both taprooms on May 4th. Anniversar-Rye is a summer rye blonde ale brewed with alligator pepper and lemon zest. Be sure to try both offerings as they will be similar to each other but also as distinct as each brewery. Also, City Star just WON 5 medals in the 2013 Denver International Beer Competition! Cowboy's Golden - silver in the blonde ale category, Dead or Alive - silver in the imperial/double IPA category, Bandit Brown - gold in the English brown ale category, Red Necktar - silver in the American amber/red ale category, and Mule Kick - gold in the strong/old ale category. Grats!

C.B. & Potts (Ft. Collins) - Tis the seasonal for their Maibock Spring Bier. It's now on tap for a limited time. Goes well with what on the menu too!
