Colorado Beer NewsToday is National Hanging Out Day. No, it's not what you may think. It's a day to save money and energy by not using your clothes dryer and hang your clothes to dry out on a line or rack. But, you can celebrate it any way you like by "hanging out" at your local craft brewery taproom! Perhaps you can save energy by riding a bike or walking to your favorite watering hole. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, April 19th, 2013.

Metro Denver

Black Shirt Brewing (Denver) - Today the brewery is kegging their 2013 Red IPA Track #1. This brew has a lot of Simcoe and Chinook hops. Look for it on tap tonight.

Great Divide Brewing Co (Denver) - A special movie / beer dinner with Great Divide is being planned for this Saturday, April 20th at the new Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Littleton, CO at 7:00pm. There will be a special 3-course dinner paired with 3 great GDBC beers. Plus you get to watch a special movie with 4/20 in mind - Half Baked. Tickets on sale now at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema box office. Sorry, no "smoking" allowed in the theater.

Dry Dock Brewing Company (Aurora) - Today's Firkin Friday tapping will be a Rum Raisin Biere de Garde. The special firkin taps at 3:00pm. How long will it last? Up to you and all the rest of the fans.

3BAD - On The Hill Beer Tasting (Thornton) - There's a new beer tasting event set for Saturday, May 11th from 6:30pm to 10:30pm at The Brittany Hill (9350 Grant Street) in Thornton. It's a fundraiser for The Romito Foundation and 3 Brothers Against Duchenne (3BAD). Several Colorado microbreweries will be on hand pouring beers along with great food and live music from Swerve. Boulder County

Oskar Blues (Longmont) - Tickets for tonight's Microbreweries for the Environment event is SOLD OUT at the Boulder Theater, but Oskar Blues still has some tickets available at the Tasty Weasel Taproom in Longmont. Stop in and inquire for additional tickets there.

The Very Nice Brewing Company (Nederland) - In addition to their own brews, VNBC is also tapping their first guest brew today - Strange Brewing's 1000 Barrel Imperial IPA (8.25% ABV, 90 IBUs). In honor of Strange hitting 1000 barrels brewed since opening in 2010, they went big time with a hop monster. Over 3 pounds of Simcoe, Amarillo, and Summit hops per barrel in this light gold brew. Stop in and enjoy a beer.

Gravity Brewing (Louisville) - There will be a Zwaarte Belgian Strong IPA collaboration beer tapping today at 4pm at the brewery. This is a big 10.2% ABV, 78 IBU beer! This beer will be available in their parlor and also on tap over at De Steeg Brewing (Denver) on Tennyson.

J Wells Brewery (Boulder) - Lots on tap today: Jamie's Pale, Jamie's Best, Gitana Brown Ale, Honey Amber, Lights Out Russian Imperial Stout, and Chocolate Milk Stout. Stop in to try one or more.

Northern Colorado

Front Range Rally (Loveland) - The full list of 30+ breweries has been set for the upcoming Front Range Rally beer and food truck festival on May 18th 3pm - 7pm in Loveland, CO. Early Bird discount tickets are still available through April 30th for this one-day event with craft beer, food from some of the areas best food trucks and live music. Visit: for details.

Verboten Brewing (Loveland) - This weekend will mark an "either or" tapping. EITHER they will tap their new Gose beer (wheat beer with salt), OR they will tap their Pear Wit this weekend. You'll have to stop in and see which one they serve up. Tonight, they'll also have Shuffler Bros. BBQ on hand with food to satisfy your noms.

Big Beaver Brewing (Loveland) - It's once again FREE BEER FRIDAY at the Beav. Today they'll be tapping a 1/6 barrel keg of "Screw the Pooch Pale Ale" starting at 2pm and running a half hour each hour until it's gone. Limit 1 free beer per customer.

FoCoMX (Music Fest) - Don't forget! The Fort Collins Music Experience (FoCoMX) starts tonight. Tons of bands across 30+ venues and 2 nights. Several Fort Collins breweries and craft beer venues will be featured as music hosts. Check the Music Listings for complete brewery bookings. Some breweries will require a event wristband to enter during evening hours.

Black Bottle Brewery (Ft. Collins) - New beer release! Tonight they are releasing Cookie Monster - a vanilla, cocoa nibs, and cookies and Cream Porter. This one was just a small batch, so come get it tonight before it's gone. They might just serve it with a cookie attached.

Funkwerks (Ft. Collins) - Today is the final release day for their beer cellar. Remember Nit Wit? Since it took a whole day for us to zest all the oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and limes that this beer required! Their Pro-Am beer for the 2012 GABF is now for sale in the taproom for $12. Dark Prophet bottles are also making their final return to the taproom today for $15.

Mountains and West

Steamworks Brewing Company (Durango) - The Durango Bluegrass Meltdown (April 19-21) is in full swing and to kick off your weekend of picking and grinning, Steamworks is bringing back Jeff Scroggins and Colorado to the brewpub for "Brewsgrass" happy hour tonight. They take the stage at 5pm. $1.00 draws are from 3-6p and a chance to win a keg at 6pm. No cover charge.
