Colorado Beer NewsToday is Earth Day. It's an annual celebration to rally support for global environmental protection of our world. Do what you can today to help out the environment around you. Cut emissions by driving less. Recycle plastics, metals, paper and glass. Attend an Earth Day event near you. Help make the Earth a better place for our children and future generations. Or, you can simply celebrate National Jelly Bean Day today! Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, April 22nd, 2013.

Metro Denver

Beer By Design Brewery (Northglenn) - There brewing equipment is all in place and today Northglenn's new brewery is starting up the mashing process. This means beer is less than a month away from being ready. Stay tuned for word on when this new brewery will be open. Epic Brewing Company (Denver & Utah) - While you were sleeping this morning, trucks carrying big tanks for their upcoming Denver brewery started arriving in town. Most of that equipment got installed today at their new location (3001 Walnut Street). You can also now view conceptual drawings of their planned Denver tap room on their Facebook page. Look for them to open in Denver sometime in late Summer 2013!

Big Choice Brewing (Broomfield) - New Summer hours were just posted today for Big Choice. Starting May 6th these hours will be in effect: Monday through Thursday: 3:00pm - 9:00pm, Friday + Saturday: 2:00pm - 10:00pm, and Sundays 2:00pm - 8:00pm.

Strange Brewing (Denver) - Have you been to Strange Brewing lately? Looking for something different on tap? Check out their line-up on tap today: Caution - A Strange ALTernative, Strange Pale, ZORA Rosemary Pale, IPAphany IPA, 1000 Barrels Imperial IPA, Farmhouse, Cherry Kriek, Powerhouse Porter, Cherry Bomb Stout, Maibock Spring Lager, and Gluten-Free Pale. Drink something Strange today!

South Denver Beer Fest (Littleton) - Volunteers are still needed for the upcoming beer festival set for May 4th & 5th at Clement Park in Littleton, Colorado. Boulder County

Twelve Degree Brewing (Louisville) - Earlier this month, Twelve Degree Brewing started receiving and installing their new brewhouse equipment at their Louisville, CO location. They now have a kettle, mash tun and several grundies and fermenters now in place. Look for them to open later this Spring.

FATE Brewing Company (Boulder) - FATE just released their 5th core style beer - Roggenbier. The release party is underway today and will feature all day happy hour pricing for the Roggenbier. Go try this German Style Rye Ale that exudes a rye breadiness, a spicy fruitiness and faintly sour and dry finish. ABV: 5%.

Avery Brewing (Boulder) - Avery is releasing a few extra tickets today to the sold out Guided Tasting of Belgian-style Beers that starts at 6:00pm at Avery Brewing today. Join in for a grand beer buffet of aromas, flavors, styles, and strengths, all with one uniting factor: Belgian yeast! As a special treat, the Ladies of Avery will present Ellegance, a Belgian-style brown ale, collaboratively brewed by trailblazing women from Avery, Wynkoop, Odell, Funkwerks, Twisted Pine, TRVE, and Prost! In honor of Earth Day, all proceeds from this event will go to Women’s Wilderness Institute, which works to strengthen the courage, confidence, and leadership qualities of girls and women, through the support and challenge of wilderness- and community-based experiences. Tickets are $10, available by stopping by or calling the Avery Tap Room (303.440.4324). Space is limited.

Crystal Springs Brewing (Boulder) - The brewery continues to move ahead with their new building plans, although at this point they aren't ready to share the location just yet. They plan to move in around mid-June and will work towards a July opening this year. They plan to have 13 taps, an outdoor patio, and plenty of room for visitors and events. During American Craft Beer Week (May 13-19), they plan to release two new beers - Butch, an American Pale Ale and Thirteen (their third anniversary beer) - this year, an India Pale Ale. Why call their third anniversary beer "13?" Maybe because its their first third (13) anniversary, maybe because they think the number 13 is lucky, or maybe they're just weird.

Northern Colorado

New Belgium Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Lips of Faith followers take note - New Belgium just got label approval for a new beer called: Wild Wild Dubbel - Ale Brewed with Schisandra. The label describes this beer as follows: "A Colorado version of the Belgian dubbel, Wild Wild ropes you in with clove and dark fruit aromas. Deeply rich and malty, every sip has a creamy texture true to Belgian tradition before it rides off with hints of black pepper and cinnamon from the addition of schisandra berries". New Belgium has used schisandra berries before in their beer - you can find that in their Springboard seasonal ale. Look for Wild Wild Dubbel to be released in the near future.

Big Beaver Brewing (Loveland) - In honor of Earth Day, in their continuing effort to fight against single-use packaging, they are offering customers a free growler fill with the purchase of 1 fill. Customers who do not wish to get both growlers filled will get a voucher for a free fill whenever they'd like to use it. Must have a Big Beaver growler to get this deal.

Brewery Bingo (Northern Colorado) - Brewery Bingo will be back in NoCo for American Craft Beer Week this year! A selection of Northern Colorado breweries will be offering bingo cards to be completed May 13th - May 19th. Drink a beer on the card, get a stamp. Get a bingo, receive a free 2013 American Craft Beer Week Northern Colorado Brewery Bingo t-shirt! Look for details on the official Facebook page. Expected participating breweries include: New Belgium, Odell Brewing, Funkwerks, Rock Bottom, Crabtree Brewing, Grimm Brothers, Big Beaver, City Star Brewing, Pateros Creek, Fort Collins Brewery, Verboten Brewing, Black Bottle Brewing, Coopersmiths, CB & Potts, Loveland Aleworks and High Hops Brewery.

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - City Star is celebrating their anniversary on Saturday, May 4th and their going to party from 12 noon through 12 midnight! Stop in for some great beer and listen to the Carbone Family Band playing starting at 8:30pm. There will be some special beer on tap so don't miss out!

Verboten Brewing (Loveland) - This Thursday at the Wapiti Colorado Pub in Loveland at 5:30pm join in for a Verboten Beer Dinner featuring 5 courses and 6 different Verboten beers. The preliminary menu is posted here and tickets are still available.

Front Range Rally (Loveland) - Just 8 days left to get Early Bird discount pricing on the upcoming Front Range Rally beer and food truck festival set for May 18th in Loveland, CO 3pm - 7pm. Buy your tickets by April 30th and save! Regular full-price tickets available starting May 1st. This festival proceeds to benefit the Food Bank of Larimer County. Askew Bruery (Ft. Collins) - Once looking at Cheyenne, WY for a brewery location, now Askew Bruery is targeting Fort Collins as a location for their upcoming brewery. This brewery reportedly will specialize in all organic beer as well as gluten free varieties. They hope to land a location by Summer 2013 and open as soon as possible after that.

Funkwerks (Ft. Collins) - Today at the brewery, Funkwerks is bottling a new batch of White, their Belgian-style Wit. Look for that beer to return to their taproom very soon.

Southern Front Range

Rocky Mountain Brewery - Nerd Night Mondays are BACK! Nerds are once more in the commanders chair, from 6-9pm on Monday Nights (except during football season). Bring in your group for some table top gaming (Risk, D&D, Apples to Apples, Cribbage, Warhammer, etc...) and receive 10% off your whole groups tab in addition to pitchers at growler price! Prefer to go it solo? That's cool too, just bring in your laptop because PC gamers receive buy one get one free 1/2 pints!

Mountains and West

Three Barrel Penitente Canyon Sour AlesThree Barrel Brewing Co (Del Norte) - Attention sour ale fans! Three Barrel Brewing is prepping to release at least two sour ales from their Penitente Canyon Sour Ales collection soon. Chimayo (Mahogany, fruity, tart) is the current release and is available now, and Hermano (citrusy, bright, fresh) will be the next. These brews have been aging for up to two years. Stay tuned to when and where these beers will be available in 22oz bottles. These are just 2 of the 6 different sour ales in their collection. Others include: Genizaro (copper, spicy, raw), Morada (ebony, oaky, toasty), and Saliente (bright, fruity, acidic, herbal). Several of their beers got raves at the Big Beers Festival in Vail earlier this year and these will no doubt be in demand. Other TBBC beers currently available are: Trashy Blonde, Bad Phil, Hop Trash, Pemba Sherpa, Burnt Toast, Black Yak, Black Copter and Skeleto. Shipments to Denver coming soon!

Kannah Creek Brewing (Grand Junction) - Want to make your Monday better? If you're on the western slope today you can stop in for their Firkin Monday. Today they'll be tapping a firkin IPA at 5:00pm. Enjoy a pint while the next front passes through. Also, several female brewers got together at Kannah Creek recently to brew up a Cherry Blossom Saison. This is the second all-female brewer beer to be made in the last couple of months. This beer will be release in time for the upcoming American Craft Beer Week, May 13-19, 2013 and will be available at all breweries who participated in this batch.
