Colorado Beer News 042313

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Movie Theater Day. It's a day to honor your local cinema complex and go watch a movie! And for those who love watching a movie and drinking a beer, that doesn't always give you many options. Luckily there are a few such complexes in Colorado who offer that service. Seek them out and enjoy the movies! Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013.

Metro Denver

Hops & Pie (Denver) - Fresh tappings today include: Humulus Lager from The Bruery, Solenna from Funkwerks, Barrel Reserve 2013 from River North, and Myrcenary from Odell Brewing. Stop in for a pint!

Denver Beer Company (Denver) - Stop by Saturday for a special taste treat - Beer and Ice Cream Sandwiches! A new Denver company - Peteybird will have their uniquely crafted ice cream sandwiches available in the Barrel Room for their launch party. Grab a pint, enjoy the warm 60 degree weather and savor an ice cream sandwich.

Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) - This week's Firkin Wednesday tapping on April 24th will be a Belgian Tart Wit. This beer will be available from 3:00pm to 9:00pm or whenever the firkin kicks. Texorado BBQ will also be on hand that day serving up food starting at 5:00pm.

Boulder County

Avery Brewing Company (Boulder) - The Denver Post just released its list of the Top Workplaces for small employers of 2013 and Avery Brewing Company took the #5 spot! Where else but a brewery do you get to drink a beer after a day of brewing beer! And apparently Avery employees are happy ones thanks in part to the great beer they make. Read the full article here.

Northern Colorado

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Are you a fan of their Snow Drop Kottbusser Style Ale? If so, you'll want to stop in to try a new variation on their flagship recipe. On Friday, April 26th, Grimm Brothers will release Funky Snow Drop - this new variation "adds the spicy and fruity profile of Funkwerks' Saison yeast to create an enjoyable balance against the already pleasant Honey, Oats and Molasses flavors of Snow Drop". This beer is taproom only, so head over to Loveland and grab a pint and see what a big difference yeast can be for a beer.

Verboten Brewing (Loveland) - Tomorrow, April 24th, from 5:00pm - 9:00pm Verboten will host the Deaf Rams' Beer Tasting Event. Stop in and show off your Sign Language skills to their deaf server that day and you'll receive $1 off your beer. Happy Hour prices all night and $1 off for anyone who knows sign language (21+ only). Free brewhouse tours. Free pretzels. Stop in and chat with your new Deaf and Hearing friends.

High Hops Brewery (Windsor) - Wednesday's firkin this week will be a Raspberry Wheat which taps at 5pm. Then this Saturday, April 27th marks the grand opening of their newly expanded patio! They are expecting sunny warm weather for this Saturday, come out and enjoy one of several new tappings of: ESBZB, Fresh Hop, Bourbon Barrel Belgian Style Stout, and Kombucha! Food will be available from Chaulkboard Gourmet Express all day. Plus for the first time they will be filling growlers of their Belgian Quad. Live music starts at 1pm from Nathan Triz, Craig Corona, and Feral West. Then - on Sunday, April 28th there will be a FREE class on "Hops for the Homebrewer: Planting to Harvesting" at 11:00am. And on Monday, April 29th, there will be a "Basics of Homebrewing" class at 6:00pm for $5. Your fee includes a flagship pint of beer!

Crabtree Brewing (Greeley) - Today is $3 Pint Day! Stop in and choose from any of the following beers for just $3 a glass: Head Turner, Dearfield, E.S.B, Serenity, Boxcar, and Oatmeal Stout. The snow is thawing and so should you inside in the taproom. Patio weather can't be far behind. Also, mark your calendars for Saturday, May 4th as it's Big Brew day. The Treehouse Homebrewing Club will be outside brewing up beer and demonstrating the homebrewing process for anyone who's interested. They'll be brewing from late morning into the afternoon. Stop by and learn about homebrewing and stay for a pint of Crabtree beer!

Beer Deal of the Day (Ft. Collins) - Tonight at Taps Sports Bar in Ft. Collins, they are rolling back beer prices. All craft pints are just $2 and domestics are $1 after 6pm - just in time for the Denver Nuggets game tonight. Located at: 165 Boardwalk Drive in FoCo.

Southern Front Range

Phantom Canyon Brewing (Colorado Springs) - There's two new beers on tap starting today: 1) Valknut - a Belgian-style Tripel Ale. This beer will also be bottled in 750ml caged cork packages and bottle conditioned (9.2% ABV). 2) Sheila - Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Brown Ale. Aroma of cookies, cinnamon and vanilla (5.3% ABV). Which one will you try first?

Mountains and West

Elevation Beer Company (Poncha Springs) - Elevation Beer is open 4-8pm today with a special Kickoff to Summer event with CKS PaddleFest! Enjoy fresh beer and live music from The Black Resonators. All the beer sales today will go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chaffee County. They are also looking for volunteers to help run the upcoming PaddleFest on May 24-27, 2013.

San Luis Valley Brewing (Alamosa) - Now on tap - their latest creation "Rye Hard" - an homage to the Bruce Willis 'Die Hard' movies. This Rye Pale Ale is described as having a "bold attitude, but still manages to come out smooth". This brew weighs in at 5.7% ABV. Also coming up on Saturday, April 27th from 6pm to 10:30pm is their "Generosity On Tap" event. This is a special night as they partner with LA PUENTE and THE RIFTERS to host the Annual Food Bank Network of the SLV Fundraiser. The evening includes a silent auction, appetizers sponsored by La Puente, live music with Don Richmond and The Rifters, great beer, and great community. Tickets are available through La Puente, 719-589-5909.
