Colorado Beer News 042613

Colorado Beer NewsThe snows are melting, the grass is greening up and it's finally the weekend here in Colorado. Sunny and warm days are expected for the weekend and it makes the perfect opportunity to head to your favorite watering hole, grab a craft beer and enjoy one out on a patio. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, April 26th, 2013.

Metro Denver

Beer on the Radio (Denver) - Both the American Craft Beer Radio and the Colorado Craft Beer Show radio programs will be doing live remotes from the Parry's Pizza Big Ass Tap Takeover tomorrow. Gary V and the American Craft Beer Radio show will be out at the Parry's in Greenwood Village and broadcast live starting at 2pm on 102.3 FM ESPN. John Turk and the Colorado Craft Beer Show will be at the Highlands Ranch location and broadcasting at 12 noon on AM 760.

South Denver Beer Festival (Littleton) - For those of you expecting to get a taste of beer from some of the "not-yet-opened" breweries at the festival, you're going to be out of luck. The Denver Post is reporting that state regulators were questioning the legality of allowing unlicensed breweries to pour beers in a homebrew pavilion. Due to this, the homebrew pavilion is being dropped from the festival. So brewers like Former Future Brewing Company will have to wait for another opportunity to pour their beers prior to their official opening and getting all of their licenses. Still, there will be more than 50 breweries represented at this two-day festival May 4th & 5th and tickets are still available via Eventbrite.

Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project (Denver) - From their recent blog post about their latest release of St. Bretta Witbier: "St. Bretta is our 100% Brettanomyces Whitebier that was just released this week! Not only is St. Bretta an evolution of Wild Wild Brett Orange, but also it will be ever-changing depending on the fresh citrus available that season. For our spring release we decided to brew St. Bretta with fresh Minneola Tangelo. Each seasonal release of St. Bretta will have a diverse range of citrus fruit added to keep the beer fresh and exciting (the summer release was brewed with blood oranges)! In February we brewed up three batches of St. Bretta on River North Brewery’s 15bbl system. We then loaded up the fresh wort from River North Brewery, and trucked it back to the Barrel Cellar before filling up one of our new upright foeders. Once the foeder was full, we pitched our Brettanomyces yeast strain with a steady fermentation lasting almost two weeks. St. Bretta spent a total of six weeks in the foeder before packaging into bottles and kegs. St. Bretta will hit our distribution chain in the state of Colorado so we hope that each of you gets the chance to try this wonderful beer."

Great Divide Brewing Co (Denver) - Just hitting store shelves now - Great Divide's 19th Anniversary Ale - available in 22oz bombers. The brewery describes this beer as follows: "19th Anniversary Ale isn’t just a wood-aged ale. It’s a compass – a reminder of where we’ve been and where we’re going. Brewed with pure birch syrup and aged on birch wood, this beer embraces reverential tradition and revolutionary innovation. As we celebrate our 19th year, we hope you’ll join us for the road ahead." - Happy 19th Great Divide!

Lone Tree Brewing (Lone Tree) - Make plans to drop by during American Craft Beer Week (May 13-19) for some special limited edition releases. There will be 1 new release each day that week. May 13 - Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout, May 14 - Barrel Aged Black IPA, May 15 - Barrel Aged Jet's Baltic Bliss Porter, May 16 - 5776' English IPA, May 17 - Kollaboration Kolsch (done with Arvada Beer Co), May 18 - Triforce Tripel, and May 19th - Weidmaier's Wheat & Peach Wheat. Food trucks will be available each day outside with food to pair your beers with.

Dry Dock Brewing (Aurora) - Tomorrow, April 27th at 11am, Dry Dock will be tapping The Brew Hut 2013 Homebrew Competition Best of Show winning beer - Loggerhead Lager. Winning brewers John Will and Jason Reinhardt will be at Dry Dock to toast the tapping.

Avery Brewing (Boulder) - As expected, the 2013 Boulder SourFest tickets sold out in a matter of minutes this morning. Did you get tickets? If so, consider yourself lucky. Perhaps in coming years Avery will expand this event into multiple days once they move to their new location (hint hint). For those who missed out, here's another sour event you might be interested in. On Monday, May 13th at Avery Brewing at 6pm, they will host a hands-on demonstration of how they make a blended barrel-aged sour beer that is greater than the sum of its parts. Tickets will be available Monday, April 29th at 11am by calling 303.440.4324 or stopping by the Avery Tap Room. And yes, there will be sour beer to taste.

Left Hand Good JujuLeft Hand Brewing (Longmont) - [PRESS RELEASE] "The days are getting longer and brighter… A little juju voodoo is right around the corner! Each year, as the spring snow melts and we set our clocks an hour later, we look forward to those warm summer evenings of sipping Good Juju on the Tasting Room patio. Back for the spring/summer season, Good Juju is light pale ale brewed with organic ginger to create a spicy aroma and unique flavor. New to this year, the Left Hand brewing team is now juicing the ginger, giving way to a much more intense flavor. For each 60 bbls brewed, the production team juices 20kg of fresh Peruvian ginger. Left Hand will be producing 2400 barrels of Good Juju for the 2013 spring/summer season. The beer will be available on draft and 12oz six packs in all 27 states where Left Hand is sold and distributed." - It's described as a light ale brewed with organic ginger to create a spicy aroma and unique flavor.
