Colorado Beer NewsToday is International Jazz Day - celebrating "the virtues of jazz as an educational tool, and a force for peace, unity, dialogue and enhanced cooperation among people". Add some jazz to your life today. Listen to a concert, add some jazz to your music player, head to a locale that plays jazz music, or pick up an instrument and play some yourself. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Tuesday, April 30th, 2013.

Metro Denver

Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) - Firkin Wednesday is coming up tomorrow, May 1st from 3pm to 9pm. The theme for May is Saisons and the first firkin to be tapped on Wednesday is a Black Pepper Saison. Stop in for a taste. Texorado BBQ will be on hand that day starting at 5pm.

Renegade Brewing Co (Denver) - Today marks the grand opening of Renegade Brewing's new restaurant business called Renegade Publick House. The restaurant is located at 2043 S. University Boulevard (near the DU campus) and will feature a menu including artisan grilled pizza and salads plus 25 beer taps. These taps will be home to several Renegade Brewing beers as well as many rotating guest taps. Renegade Publick House opens at 3pm today and will host a grand opening party on May 18th.

Hops & Pie 1st Firkin FridayHops & Pie (Denver) - Wonder what Hops & Pie's Firkin 1st Friday will be all about on May 3rd? Stop in at 6pm this Friday for a firkin of Lagunitas Sucks - Brown Shugga Substitute. This beer is a "Cereal Medley" of Barley, Rye, Wheat & Oats. It weighs in at 7.6% ABV and 63 IBU. Come get a taste to see what this special beer from Lagunitas Brewing of California is all about. Also, on tap now - Pursuit of Hoppiness from Grand Teton, Burton Baton from Dogfish Head, Dubbel from River North, He'brew Rejewvenator from Schmaltz Brewing, Brewery Ommegang Gnomegang.

Boulder County

Crystal Springs Brewing (Boulder) - Stop by the Crystal Springs booth at the South Denver Beer Fest this weekend and try some of their beers. On May 13th, they will be celebrating their 3rd Anniversary and will be releasing their third anniversary beer called, oddly enough, Thirteen, an India Pale Ale. In addition, they will also release Butch, a pale ale. Look for these to hit stores and select restaurants around the Boulder area.

Gravity Brewing (Louisville) - From their recent newsletter: Gravity Brewing will also be pouring at the South Denver Beer Fest this weekend. In addition, this Sunday, May 5th, Gravity is sponsoring and providing beer for the Louisville Trail Half Marathon and 10K. The race starts at 8am. A post race festival, expo, and BBQ, including beer from Gravity, will be held at the Louisville Community Park until noon. Also, Gravity Brewing is underway with construction of an outdoor beer garden at the brewery. Look for the beer garden to be open in a month or so. Gravity's beer garden will be one of the biggest, and quite possibly the only, traditional outdoor beer gardens in the area.

Upslope Imperial IPAUpslope Brewing (Boulder) - Fresh off the heals of opening up a second brewery, Upslope has announced that they will be putting out a new beer - Upslope Imperial India Pale Ale in cans. Not just any can, but a big 19.2oz tall can! This marks the second Colorado brewery, behind Oskar Blues, to put a beer in this new super tall can. This Imperial IPA will weigh in at 10% ABV and have 90 IBUs. This will be available year round starting in May.

FATE Brewing Company (Boulder) - FATE Brewing Company Owner, Mike Lawinski, and Head Brewer, Jeff Griffith are excited to announce the release of their eighth beer brewed on site, Cascadian Dark Ale. There will be a release party starting at 11:00am featuring all day happy hour pricing for the Cascadian Dark Ale on Wednesday, May 1st. This unique beer style is a dark like a porter, but hoppy like an IPA. (6.4% ABV, 64 IBU) - Other beers now on draft: Kolsch Style Ale, IPA, Belgian Pale Ale, American Stout, American Amber Ale, Imperial IPA and their just released: Watermelon Kolsch Style Ale.

The Very Nice Brewing Co (Nederland) - The brewery is going to be tapping their chili/chocolate porter test batch on Thursday 05/2/2013 in honor of their first Thursday opened! They'll even be experimenting with a Very Nice coffee blend prepared for us by Mountain Mocha. For an extra $1 they'll add a cold shot of it to your beer. They call it tweaking your pint. This beer has no name, so suggest one and if they use it, they'll find a Very Nice prize for you.

Oskar Blues Brau HaufeOskar Blues (Longmont) - Oskar Blues is planning an event where they will be serving up nothing but homebrew beer! on Saturday, May 4th from 11am - 1pm at the Tasty Weasel Taproom, employees of Oskar Blues were all asked to brew up their own recipes and they will all put it on the line for the 1st Annual Brau Haufe! (aka Brew Off). There will be blind judging by the Oskar Blues brewers and production staff, plus vote on your favorite. Live music from 4:30pm - 6:30pm. Plus the Bonewagon will be on site to satisfy your noms. $5 cover charge to try the homebrew samples.

Northern Colorado

Front Range Rally (Loveland) - Today is your LAST day to get discount tickets to the upcoming Front Range Rally beer & food truck fest in Loveland on May 18th from 3pm to 7pm. Starting tomorrow, tickets will go up to their regular price. The Front Range Rally will have 30 breweries and over 60 different beers available and up to 15 different food trucks to satisfy your noms. Get tickets on-line at: frontrangerally.org - Hurry! Prices go up May 1st!! This is an outdoor festival - so come prepared.

High Hops Brewery (Windsor) - This Wednesday's firkin is Honey Habanero. Drink some to start your Cinco de Mayo a little early. It taps at 5pm on May 1st. Don't forget, live music every Friday at 6pm and Saturday at 5pm. See the Brewery Music listings for who's playing this week.

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - City Star Deputies "mug club" memberships go on sale this Saturday, Mary 4th! $50 annual fee = Happy Hour ALL the time, a deputy pint glass (bigger) and first beer free. Sign up soon as these memberships are limited.

The Fort Collins Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Tomorrow is May and that marks the beginning of Barley Wine as their beer of the month. Stop in and enjoy a pint of it while it lasts.

Southern Front Range

Bristol Brewing (Colorado Springs) - Tonight's Karma Hour benefits the Historic Manitou Springs, Inc. Their mission is to preserve, protect, and promote the history and culture of Manitou Springs and the Pikes Peak Region. $1 from every pint sold between 5pm-9pm supports them.

Mountains and West

Ska Brewing (Durango) - Super Ted's Super Trivia season finale kicks off tonight at 6:00pm! Join in at Ska before Ted heads into his summer siesta! 2 for 1 beers, Good on the Bun and lots of great prizes. (Don't worry trivia will return in the fall).
