Colorado Beer News 050213

Colorado Beer NewsToday is both National Day of Reason and National Day of Prayer. The first was designed to offset the second. So whether you choose to celebrate reason or prayer is up to you - just be sure to respect others' decision to celebrate whichever they want. Then perhaps later we can all go share a beer. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Thursday, May 2nd, 2013.

Wit's End Brewing (Denver) - [PRESS RELEASE] "Announcing the “Bitter Late Than Never” Release on Thursday, May 2nd at 4pm! It all started when Wit’s End owner Scott Witsoe offered up a “Brewer for a Day” donation to his daughter’s school auction fundraiser. The winning bidder would be able to work on a custom recipe with Scott as well as be involved in every aspect of the process in creating a commercial beer—from customizing the recipe to kegging the final product. The generous donator and winner is our new friend Ryan Benine. Ryan was a home brewer back in the 90s, but life and a new family put his beloved hobby on hold. In fact, his last homebrew batch never made it out of the carboy as his first child came a bit early and he never got around to bottling it (note that this beer has been in the carboy since 1997!). This seemed like the perfect opportunity for the beer that might have never been finished. Taking into account Ryan’s original notes, Ryan and Scott have brewed this beer based on the classic English session beer called a “Premium Bitter”. This incredibly balanced ale has just the right amount of malt and hops creating a beer definitely worth the 16 year wait! Wit’s End will also donate 20% of all sales of this beer to the school Scott and Ryan’s children attend…join us for the release of this beer on Thursday, May 2nd at 4pm."

Trinity Brewing (Colorado Springs) - Trinity Brewing just got their final shipment of French oak barrels in, and working to fill them with some bretta and sour beers. It's been an entire month of adding barrels to their new cellar/aging room, and they are finally full. They'll have close to 100 Chardonnay barrels to age in, and impart delicate musty / goaty / fruity flavors to very extreme acidic / dry notes in their beers. This expansion boosts their cooperage from 12 batches to 28 potential batches! Their brewers have been busy filling up that extra volume. This barrel room elevates Trinity to one of the larger producers of oak aged wild/sour beer in the country. In celebration, they will be hosting a Blindworm Guitar and Barrel Room open house on Friday May 17th at 5:00pm. Come check out the new digs and their newly finished whiskey barrel tables (located on the patio). They will have hors d'oeuvres pairings with Brewer Master tastings directly off their oaken Vessels. Also, this Saturday, May 4th is 'First Saturday Firkin' featuring a cask of Flo IPA aged on new and fruit driven mosaic hops. Then on Friday May 10th they've set the date for the release of their Farmhouse Du Tomme made with amaranth, rose hips and Lemon grass.
