Colorado Beer News 050313

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Garden Meditation Day, No Pants Day and Paranormal Day. To celebrate all three you'll need to find a haunted brewery, wear your shorts and meditate out in their beer garden. And yes, Colorado does reportedly have some haunted breweries (Yak & Yeti and City Star). Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, May 3rd, 2013.

Metro Denver

Mountain Monk Brewing Company (Denver) - A new brewery just announced their intentions to open in the RiNo district of Denver. The owner is listed as Merritt Noel and brewer Jeff B who has previously won a Pro-Am award at the 2011 GABF with Funkwerks. Mountain Monk Brewing Company plans to brew Belgian-inspired Colorado craft beer on an 8 bbl system they are having shipped over from Denmark. Also in the plans is to utilize a bottling line that came with the brewing system. They also have a love for IPAs, barrel-aged beers and sours. They plan on having 6 house beers at a given time in addition to a couple of seasonal beers that will allow for a wide styles for their customers to choose from. They are close to signing a lease and hope to open sometime by the Fall of 2013. Their Facebook page lists them at 2811 Walnut Street in Denver, CO, but that is subject to final confirmation. Arvada Beer Co (Arvada) - Today ABC will be releasing their Minero Mexican lager. This Amber lager is made in the Vienna beer style using a Mexican lager yeast. Happy hour runs from 11 to 2 and from 4 to 7 today and tomorrow. There is still room for you to enter their Green Chili Cook off Sunday. Sign up on their website, www.arvadabeer.com.

Dry Dock Brewing (Aurora) - Dry Dock is hosting their first Celebrate Aurora beer & food pairing event on Monday, May 13th from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. Tickets are $25 advanced or $35 at the door and include Dry Dock beer and food from some of Aurora's favorite local restaurants including A-Town Pizza, The Wing Hut, Carmine Lonardo's Deli and To Your Door Burritos By Ele. Get tix at the taproom.

Boulder County

Sanitas Brewing Company (Boulder) - Today Sanitas Brewing issued a Press Release outlining their final chosen location in a new 15,000 square foot warehouse in central Boulder. The new location is at 3550 Frontier Avenue and is big enough to last them for years to come. Check out the release for a video showing off the new location and extra details.

Avery Brewing (Boulder) - 3 dates to keep in mind. May 4th - the release of Barrel-aged Sour Batch #14 - Volunt Plus Erat. May 8th - the return of Samael's Oak-Aged Ale (barleywine) with a vertical tasting. And May 16th - the release of their Twenty XX India Pale Ale - 20th anniversary beer! All events happen in the tap room at 5pm. Be there!

Northern Colorado

Verboten Brewing (Loveland) - There's a new tapping at Verboten today. Stop in at 5pm for a taste of their "Walking the Parapet", a bourbon barrel-aged porter that spent 3.5 months in a Dancing Pines Bourbon Barrel and is ready to drink now!

Front Range Rally (Loveland) - More volunteers are needed to work at the upcoming Front Range Rally beer & food truck festival on Saturday, May 18th, 2013. Beer pouring, ice runners, and other jobs will be split across two 3-hour shifts between 2pm and 8pm. Volunteers will get a t-shirt and be allowed to sample beer either before or after their shift. To sign up to volunteer, visit the sign-up form: Front Range Rally Volunteer Sign-up. Must be 21+ to volunteer and sign a waiver and be able to attend pre-event training.

Odell Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Butterflies and Beer in a unique partnership. Odell Brewing will release a new Saison on Saturday, May 18th that will help protect rare butterflies in Colorado. The beer, Celastrina Saison Ale weighs in at 7.5% ABV and will be packaged in the large 750ml cork-n-cage bottles. Check out the Press Release to find out more about it.

Echo Brewing (Frederick) - New Beer Tapping Alert! Today Echo will tap their new Roggenbier (5.6% ABV, 14 IBU) - a German Rye Ale with clove and banana flavors and aroma with a tart citrus character. They will also have Shuffler Bros. BBQ serving their awesome BBQ from 5pm-8pm!

Mayor of Old Town (Ft. Collins) - Today between 3-5pm is FAC at the Mayor. When you order an adult beverage you will receive a large free pretzel (salty or stuffed jalapeno w/cream cheese).

Southern Front Range

Bristol Brewing Co (Colorado Springs) - Bristol Brewing will play host to a 10-week lecture series entitled "The Art and Science of Fermentation" given by the Zymurgy Institute. Tuition is $99 for the 10-week, 10-lecture series. Classes are on Monday nights at 7pm. Register at the brewery or call 719.322.3933 or email coned[at]colostate-pueblo.edu. Also, tonight it's $3.50 pints from 6-9pm in the taproom.

Mountains and West

Crazy Mountain Brewing (Edwards) - There will be a firkin tapping today at 5:00pm in their tasting room!! Mango-infused Hookiebobb IPA. They will pour til it runs out, so make sure to come early to get some hoppy mango goodness.

New Belgium (Ft. Collins) - Get ready for some uniquely different beers coming later this year. First up will be a new Lips of Faith beer called Coconut Curry Hefeweizen, expected around June. Also, late in the summer, look for the new Pumpkick, an ale brewed with pumpkin juice, cranberry juice and spices. It's a non-oak version of their Kick only available in 12oz bottles.
