Colorado Beer News 051013

Colorado Beer NewsToday is "Stock up on Craft Beer Day". Since May 10th doesn't have an interesting made up holiday, we may as well make up our own. In honor of the upcoming American Craft Beer Week, go out and stock up on some local craft beer and prepare to celebrate with it during American Craft Beer Week May 13-19, 2013. Pick up an old favorite craft brew or try something new you haven't had before. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, May 10th, 2013.

Homebrewing (US-wide) - This week will go down in history as being the first time that homebrewing beer was legalized in all 50 US states. Just this week, Alabama became the last state to legalize homebrewing, following closely with Mississippi who was the 49th state earlier this year. As of July 1st, every state in the union will allow for the homebrewing of beer. It's taken around 34 years from the time President Jimmy Carter first legalized home brew to be made to the time it was legal in all 50 states. Better late than never.

Metro Denver

Epic Brewing Company (Denver & Utah) - Business plans are moving along at the upcoming Denver location for Epic Brewing Company. Yesterday, they showed off their new location at 3001 Walnut Street in the RiNo district of Denver. If all goes according to plan, their brewing operations installation, aka Phase One, will be completed by sometime in June and they could be selling beers as early as July 2013. The next phase would be to add a tap room and a retail shop by the end of this Summer or early Fall. The Utah-based brewery is expanding and opening up this 2nd brewery in Denver which will initially brew up some Colorado-only beers as part of their "Classic" line of beer. We can expect to see an IPA, a pale ale and a lager. Opening a second location in Denver is allowing them to get around some of Utah's more restrictive liquor laws.

Rackhouse Pub (Denver) - If you're looking for a craft beer event for next week's American Craft Beer Week (#ACBW13) you might want to head over to the Rackhouse Pub. They've put up a list of events including 2 with Avery Brewing, one with Yak & Yeti, and one each with Oskar Blues, New Belgium and Great Divide. Check out their #ACBW13 event page for specific details and dates. If you go, tell them Fermentedly Challenged sent you.
