Colorado Beer NewsToday is Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi's 100th birth anniversary and undersea explorer Jacques Cousteau's 103rd birth anniversary and comedian Gene Wilder's 80th birthday. Let's all toast to their honor today. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Tuesday, June 11th, 2013.

Metro Denver

Black Shirt Brewing (Denver) - BSB wants you to know about a coming live music series at the brewery entitled BSB Now Playing. This has been a project in the works for several years and is finally coming to pass. The idea is to provide a private, super-intimate setting for unique and interesting local bands to come play acoustic/stripped down 3-5 song sets in front of 40 people, with an extremely talented video production company filming the entire evening. After the show is over, their friends at AvaVision Media will cut the video and we all can use it to promote the local music scene in Denver and their businesses as well. The first in the series was on Monday, May 13th and they are just about ready to release the first video. BSB wanted to prime you for the release of the video which will be tomorrow, Wednesday, June 12th. That afternoon, they will release a link to the video for you to watch and share.

Rock Bottom Brewery (Denver) - Their annual summer ale - Jazzberry Ale - is now on tap. It's an American style raspberry wheat brew. Then coming up on Thursday, June 20th, stop in for the tapping of AIA BUILDING BOCK – a Helles style Lager. This Helles Bock has an ABV of 6.5%. They’ll tap AIA BUILDING BOCK at 6 pm and serve a complimentary pint (to those 21 & over) until 6:30 pm. Plus, stop in for live music on the patio starting at 7pm every Saturday night this month! No cover charge!

Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) - This week's Wednesday firkin will be a "Smoked Maibock" - it's all part of their June Smoked Brews Cask Month. The firkin will tap on June 12th at 3:00pm and hopefully last until 9pm. Texorado BBQ will also be on hand starting at 5pm.

Renegade Brewing Company (Denver) - Colorado Brewery Trivia: Did you know that Renegade Brewing is a 60% female owned business? Did you also know that Renegade Brewing recently promoted Ali Benetka, age 24, to be their head brewer making her the youngest female head brewer in Colorado? Other female leaders at Renegade include Laura Vande Zande (taproom manager + marketing), Kristen Goettsch (asst. taproom manager)and Khara O'Connell (company co-founder). Plus, they have an all female taproom wait staff as well. Craft beer is not just a man's business as this business well proves.

Dry Dock Brewing (Aurora) and Prost Brewing (Denver) will be participating in a 2-day culinary & craft beer experience up in Vail, CO on Friday June 28th and Saturday June 29th featuring a "Meet the Brewmasters" open tasting session, an informal discussion on "The Future of Craft Beer" and several seminars on Cheese & Charcuterie, World Beer Pairing, and Session Beers. Plus some great food and desserts paired with beer at the end of each day's session. Sign up for a "Sip, Savor & Brew on Gore Creek" package at Vail Cascade Resort. Access to all seminars and gatherings - $69 per person. Hotel accommodations are extra.

Odyssey Beerwerks (Arvada) - Happy Hour today from 4:00pm - 6:00pm where you'll get $1 off each pint and a pint served at 40 degrees. Sure is a good way to beat that heat!

Boulder County

Kettle & Stone Summer Solstice PartyThe Kettle & Stone Brewing Company (Boulder) - The word has been sent! Kettle & Stone will official host a soft opening and a tasting of their Solstice Wheat and their 4 house Ginger Ales during a pre-opening celebration on Friday, June 21st from 2pm to 10pm. Then, on Wednesday June 26th from 2pm to 9pm they will host their official Grand Opening day! Stay tuned for more details on this opening as the day draws closer. Sanitas Brewing Co (Boulder) - According to Westword, Sanitas Brewing is planning to start canning two of their beers right from grand opening day on their own canning line. Plans were revealed for Sanitas Brewing to can 2 year-round brews initially - 1) Sanitas Saison Ale and 2) Sanitas Black IPA. Looks like this new Boulder brewery will open sometime in August 2013 if all goes according to plan. Read more about this brewery's plans in the Westword article.

Avery Brewing (Boulder) - Want to learn about how Avery Brewing blends their barrel-aged sour beers? Avery Brewing will be hosting "Gestalt Theory: Blending a Barrel-Aged Sour Beer" on Monday, June 24th at 6:00pm at their brewery. Join in for a hands-on demonstration of how they try to make a blended sour that is greater than the sum of its parts. Their resident barrel herder, Andy Parker, will talk about how he goes about blending, each of the component parts added to the final beer, and why the punted barrels were punted. You'll also have the opportunity to create your own sour blend! Tickets are $60 and go on sale on Wednesday June 12th at 11am, available by calling or stopping by the Avery Tap Room (303-440-4324, ext. 20).

Left Hand Brewing (Longmont) - At last, their new floors are completed and the doors are back open in their remodeled taproom. Stop in for a Hopfenweiss - just tapped today.

Northern Colorado

Colorado Brewers' Festival (Ft. Collins) - The 24th Annual Colorado Brewers' Festival is quickly approaching. The fest kicks off Friday night June 21st with the All Brewers' Eve tasting event from 7pm to 10pm with special rare beers and food tastings. Then the big festival happens on Saturday and Sunday June 22-23 from 12pm to 6pm each day. VIP entry starts at 11am. High Hops Brewery (Windsor) - Tomorrow's Wednesday Firkin is "C.P.A" - Colorado Pale Ale - it's brewed with 100% Colorado ingredients. This beer will be tapped at 5pm June 12th. Live music will also be on hand Friday 6-8pm and Saturday 5-7pm. Then, on Fathers Day (Sunday) make your Dad feel like a god with a taste of "The Demi-God" - their Power of Zeus dry hopped with Herkules hops. Spring/Summer hours have begun - now open at Noon every day!

Anheuser-Busch (Ft. Collins) - OK so this isn't craft beer, BUT the Clydesdales are coming to Old Town Fort Collins this Saturday, June 15th for a parade through the streets of Old Town from 6-8pm making deliveries of beer to select customers. The horse team will hitch-up at 5:45pm at Sports Authority (425 S. College Ave) and then head down College Avenue. If you've never seen the Clydesdales in the flesh, this would be your opportunity.

Homebrewing in America - The AHA is reporting that after reviewing data from 275 homebrew shops spanning 47 states — a 32 percent increase in participants from last year’s survey — the survey found that on average, participants saw gross revenue increase by 26 percent in 2012. For shops that primarily sell homebrew supplies, gross revenue increased on average by 29 percent. This is 2 percent higher than last year’s results and 10 percent higher than results from the first AHA supply shop survey conducted in 2009. The majority of homebrew shops (80 percent) experienced increased sales of beginner homebrew equipment kits, signifying a considerable boost in interest in the hobby. The largest segment of people buying the beginner kits were individuals 30 to 39 years old. In 2013, 43 percent of responding homebrew shops said they have been open for three years or less, up from 34 percent in 2012, indicating considerable growth in new shop openings.
