Colorado Beer NewsToday is Color TV Day. It was on this day back in 1951 that the first regular commercial color TV transmission was broadcast by CBS. Granted, back then hardly anyone owned a color TV, but it was available never the less. And ever since then the world has become even more enamored by the boob tube. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Tuesday, June 25th, 2013.

Metro Denver

Yak & Yeti Brewery (Arvada) - The brewery is having a Fermentor naming contest on Facebook. They need a unique, witty name for each of their 4 fermentors that have Nepali or Himalayan play-on-words. Vote for your favorites from others or share and tell people to vote for your suggestions. The top 4 (acceptable) favorites will be chosen and winners will receive a $15 gift card and a free growler with a fill. - Also, a new beer this week - Chocolate Mint Porter. This brew will tap just as soon as their Oaked IPA runs out. Drink up!

Big Choice Brewing (Broomfield) - This Thursday, June 27th at LuLu's BBQ in Louisville there will be a Big Choice Tap Takeover starting at 5:00pm. For $15 it's all you can drink of Big Choice beer. Featured beers include 10,000 Summer Saison, Disconnected Red Ale on nitro, and Rail Slide Extra Pale Ale. The special is good until their beer is all gone! Bring a Designated Driver with you! Don't forget to load up on BBQ also.

Epic Beer Festival (Denver) - This weekend's biggest beer festival is happening in the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver. It's the first annual Epic Beer Festival Denver featuring over 350+ beers from over 120 craft breweries! Tickets are still available. www.epicbeerfestival.com. Three different 3-hour sessions: Fri. June 28 7pm-10pm, Sat. June 29 1-4pm & 7-10pm.

Factotum BrewHouse (Denver) - There's just 26 days left in their Kickstarter fundraising campaign for this upcoming brewery that's designed to let homebrewers be the brewmasters. Factotum is well over half way to making their goal of raising $8,000 that will help complete their taproom. Check out their Kickstarter page and see if you'd like to help them out.

Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) - This week's Wednesday firkin will be a "Smoked Juniper Golden Strong". It's part of their June Smoked Brews Cask Month. It taps at 3:00pm on June 26th.

Lone Tree Brewing (Lone Tree) - Next Tuesday, July 2nd marks the 22oz bottle release of their Hoptree IIPA - a double IPA! Look for it in area stores.

Boulder County

Oskar Blues (Longmont) - Wanna be on TV and try a crazy beer this weekend? Get over to Oskar Blues Homemade Liquids and Solids in Longmont this Saturday, June 29th, to try the collaboration beer they'll be making with BrewDog (brewery) for their new TV show and get your chance to get your mug on the TV! The fun runs from 6pm to 8pm with a 6pm tapping. Also - tomorrow June 26th is Bike to Work Day. If you bike in and show proof of your bike gear you'll get $1 off all drafts.

Twisted Pine Brewing (Boulder) - Don't forget that every Tuesday is Happy Hour all day long at Twisted Pine. You'll get happy hour prices from open to close every Tuesday. Nuff said!

Boulder Beer Company (Boulder) - There's a new craft beer promo video for Boulder Beer's Hoopla Pale Ale out on YouTube featuring the music of Kyle Hollingworth. Check it out below or on YouTube.

Left Hand Brewing (Longmont) - For Bike to Work Day tomorrow, June 26th, if you ride your bike in to the brewery on your way home (4pm to 6pm) you'll receive a complimentary pint and a soft pretzel! Also, try the new Echo Brewing / Left Hand Brewing collaboration beer - Collaboration Saison.

Northern Colorado

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - If you're in Greeley today, Tuesday June 25th, stop over at The Tavern at St. Michaels Square for a City Star tap takeover. There will be several City Star beers on tap. City Star beers will be on tap all evening. Meanwhile, back at the taproom in Berthoud, they're hosting a BBQ-theme Potluck tonight at 7pm in the taproom. Bring a dish to share and they'll provide the plates, napkins and silverware. If you made your dish with a City Star beer as an ingredient you'll get a free beer! Also - In the back inside the brewhouse, they are working to add a 2nd walk-in cooler and double their cold storage capacity. That means soon more beer for local restaurants and bars!

Loveland Aleworks (Loveland) - It's "Wear your Loveland Aleworks Shirt Day"! Do so and get $1 off your beer in the taproom today. Billy's Chaulkboard Gourmet Express is serving up food tonight and Joel Kachel will be performing live music starting at 5:00pm.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - A reminder to the ladies - it's Ladies Night starting at 4:00pm tonight. Get half-price pints! The Daily Dawg will be on site serving up food tonight as well starting at 4pm. Also, coming up on July 4th is the return of their "Water Of Life" American IPA. It'll be served up after the Liberty 5K race.

Echo Brewing (Frederick) - Tonight from 5pm to 7pm come for a special release of their Collaboration Saison. It's a brew they worked with Left Hand Brewing on. All the proceeds from this beer will go towards Bike MS. The Bodacious Eats food truck will also be on hand serving up good food.

New Belgium (Ft. Collins) - This summer, New Belgium has brought back Loft - a Belgian pale ale. You can find this beer mixed in with their summertime Folly Packs wherever New Belgium beer is sold. It's only back for a limited time so enjoy it while it's here.

Loveland Loves BBQ, Bands & Brews (Loveland) - Start planning now to attend this year's Loveland Loves BBQ, Bands & Brews in Loveland happening on July 12 and 13. Feast upon some of the best BBQ dishes in the region, drink craft beer from the Loveland areas many craft breweries. A new band plays every hour! There's even a Car Show on Saturday. Event times: Friday 12th 3pm-10pm, Saturday 13th 11am-10pm. More info at: www.e-l-events.org.

Pateros Creek Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Does that PCBC growler of yours need filling? Today they are offering $7 growler fills of their Legend beers if you bring in one of their growlers. Pateros Creek is also one of the stations for Bike to Work day in FoCo. Stop in on your bike for a pint tomorrow after work.

New Brewery (Ft. Collins) - A brewery whose name isn't being revealed yet, held a public meeting yesterday to talk about the potential impact it may have on its neighborhood. Only problem is, the owners didn't want to reveal any of their business plans, their brewery name or the name of one of their owners. The neighbors are concerned about a brewery being so close to their homes and a nearby school and didn't get the answers they were looking for. Travis Robertson and a guy named Dave (wouldn't give last name) are heading this new business and want to open a brewery at 302 N. Meldrum in Fort Collins, CO. For the full scoop check out David Young's article in the Coloradoan. Do they have something to hide? Or do they don't have a plan yet?

Crabtree Brewing (Greeley) - Tuesday is Trivia night at 7pm. Wednesday is $6 growler fill day. Saturday is a Spell-A-Bration from 1pm-3pm and a Dog Wash from 2pm-4pm. Food trucks on site Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

Cactus Bend Brewing (Ft. Collins) - According to FeastingFortCollins.com, Cactus Bend is now longer planning to open a brewery in Fort Collins. Reportedly, the prospective owners have moved out of state and are no longer pursuing a brewery in Colorado.

Funkwerks (Fort Collins) - New beer alert! Funkwerks will be releasing a new beer in the taproom this Thursday June 27th! "Saison with Asian Teas" will be available both on draft and in bottle and was made with Jasmine rice and a mixture of green, white, and Jasmine teas! Also, coming up this Friday, June 28th at DaveCo Liquors in Thornton from 4pm to 6pm, a Funkwerks rep will be on site giving out free samples of Funkwerks beers. Stop by, try some and take some home.

Southern Front Range

Bristol Brewing Company (Colorado Springs) - Schools In! Bristol Brewing is quickly making their transition of their brewery over to their new digs at the Ivywild School location just a block away. Changes aren't always easy, but they are doing their best to get everything up and running at the new school location. They've recently released the 6th and last in their Schoolhouse Rocks videos showcasing their new locale. Check it out below or on YouTube.

Mountains and West

Crazy Mountain Brewing (Edwards) - Grats to Crazy Mountain as their Horseshoes & Hand Grenades ESB just won a Silver medal at the Asia Beer Awards in Singapore this month. Also, closer to home, visitors to the brewery will now find some new Corn Hole sets outside to play on. Come challenge your friends to a round of bags and don't forget to sample their beer! In future news, Crazy Mountain just got label approval for an upcoming beer called "Neomexicanus Native Pale Ale". This beer is to be released in 22oz bombers and features hops that are completely native to the United States and genetically unique from other varieties of Humulus Lupulus.

Kannah Creek Brewing (Grand Junction) - Their new Edgewater brewing and bottling facility is making their first deliveries of their bottled beer to local liquor stores today! Start looking for Kannah Creek beer in select Grand Junction liquor stores this week.


Stone Brewing (California) - Look for another batch of Stone Brewing Company's "Enjoy By IPA" hitting store shelves next week. Colorado is on the list to receive shipments of "Enjoy By 8/2/13 IPA" next week. You'll then have a month to enjoy this fresh batch of IPA before Stone rips it off the shelves. Beer geeks as well as non-geeks are eagerly awaiting the return of this beer. Also look for their "w00tstout" collaboration with Wil Wheaton and Fark to hit shelves in mid-July and the R&R Coconut IPA collaboration beer to hit shelves in late July. And, their 17th Anniversary IPA is coming in August as well.
