Colorado Beer NewsToday is officially the 1st day of The Dog Days of Summer. These are the hottest days of the year and typically last from July 3rd through August 11th each year. Do what you can to beat the heat. Having a cold craft beer sure helps! Wishing everyone a great Independence Day weekend. Be safe! And please don't drink and drive - the heat is on! - As local law enforcement likes to remind us. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Wednesday, July 3rd, 2013.

Please note - the Colorado Beer News will be taking a short holiday hiatus during the long July 4th weekend. Look for the next update on Tuesday. Also, don't forget to stock up for the 4th! Many breweries may not be open on Thursday. Check your local brewery before visiting their taproom.

Metro Denver

Odyssey Beerwerks (Arvada) - They have just recently opened for business, but already Odyssey Beerwerks is putting out six-packs of their Helios Hefeweizen and Ghost Rider Pale Ale. There are available at the brewery and also at area stores like Mondo Vino in Denver.

Our Mutual Friend Malt & Brew (Denver) - New beer tapping alert! This Friday, July 5th at 2pm OMF will be tapping two brews: 1) Raspberry Saison (4.5% ABV 28 IBU), and 2) Proletariat (Dry Hopped w/Nelson Sauvin & Falconers Flight - 5% ABV 11 IBU). It's going to be a long hot weekend and these are limited batches and won't last long.

Factotum Brewhouse (Denver) - Thanks to the help of lots of craft beer enthusiasts, Factotum Brewhouse reached their Kickstarter goal of $8,000 to help get their tasting room funded as of today! Plans will now move ahead to get their business operational and open up later this year. Cheers to all who contributed!

Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) - CKBC has another Wednesday firkin being tapped today. This time it's a Blackberry Baltic Porter soaked with fresh blackberries! On tap now until it's drained.

Boulder County

Kettle & Stone Brewing Co (Boulder) - Boulder's new brewery is going to have a party on Saturday, July 6th starting at 2pm. They'll be hosting live music, great beer and Greek food. Food begins at 5pm.

Northern Colorado

Verboten Brewing (Loveland) - Today during Happy Hour (3-6pm) you can get $1 off pints. The Verboten Sisterhood meeting runs from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at the brewery tonight and the topic will be Belgian Style ales. All ladies in attendance will continue to get Happy Hour prices extended for the evening.

Echo Brewing Company (Frederick) - Their Balefire Irish Red is back on tap today! Also this evening, Mama Jean's will be serving delicious BLTA's, Sliders, Chicken Sandwiches and Sweet Potato Fries 5pm-8pm. Enjoy part of your holiday weekend with Echo Brewing.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - It's coming back! Magic Mirror - Grimm Brothers' Imperial Kottbusser Ale is coming back this month. it's a beefed up version of their Snow Drop and is made with oats, honey and molasses and a lot of hops and an altbier yeast. It'll weigh in around 11% ABV! Look for it soon on tap and in bottle shops.

Wiley Roots Brewing (Greeley) - This upcoming brewery will once again be open Thursday and Friday for growler purchases and refills from 12pm to 7pm and then again on Saturday & Sunday the full tap room will be open from 12pm to 7pm. Look for their Grand Opening on July 20th at 625 3rd Street Unit D in Greeley, CO!

Crabtree Brewing (Greeley) - Serenity Amber Ale and Raz-A are back on tap today. Their chips & salsa are back in stock as is their Growler caps. They plan to be open July 4th from 12pm to 8pm.

Southern Front Range

Trinity Brewing (Colorado Springs) - GABF time is coming up in October, but already Trinity is planning their GABF pouring list. This year they will be bringing: Swingline (sour), TPS Report (brett), Gangsta (fruited wood aged sour), Ten Minutes of Pleasure (experimental), 7 Day Sour (sour), and Elektrik Cukumbah (field beer). Sound good? Tickets for GABF start going on sale at the end of the month.

Red Leg Brewing Company (Colorado Springs) - Don't forget that tomorrow, July 4th marks the Grand Opening of Red Leg Brewing Company in the Springs. Red Leg Brewing Company was established to provide the highest quality craft beer to honor the Men and Women who currently and formerly served in The United States Military. They'll be open from 12pm to 8pm on July 4th. The brewery is located at 4630 Forge Road STE B - just off Garden of the Gods Road and not far from Trinity Brewing.

Mountains and West

Gore Range Brewery (Edwards) - Mug club members! Renewal time is here! The new mugs are in and ready for you to personalize them. All current members have till July 15th to reserve their current number. Stop in soon!

#IPADAY (August 1st) - It's coming back! Thursday, August 1st has been official designated at #IPADay. Craft beer enthusiasts will be celebrating all forms of India Pale Ale that day. Be sure to use hashtag #IPADay when you tweet about your beer that day.
