Colorado Beer News 071013

Colorado Beer NewsFermentedly Challenged is back after a short vacation break. There is a lot of Colorado Beer News to catch up on since last week so let's get right to it! Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Wednesday, July 10th, 2013.

Metro Denver

Dry Dock Brewing (Aurora) - Dry Dock and KDVR Fox 31 TV are teaming up to offer a contest to win Beer For A Year. You simply need to "Like" Dry Dock Brewing Co on Facebook and then fill out the entry form for your chance to win. You can improve your odds of winning by entering daily and sharing with your Facebook friends to earn 3 Bonus Entries for each one who enters. Also, stop in for a pint of their S.S. Minnow Mild Ale - it's back on tap and is a good session beer.

Yak & Yeti (Arvada) - Some new beers hit the tap wall today including a Clove Wheat (4pm today), a Yeti Saison (Belgian Farmhouse summer ale) and the return of their Belgian Peach Whiskey Barrel Ale. These brews go well during these Dog Days of Summer.

Old Mill Brewery (Littleton) - Beer special today. Get $2 house beers all day (July 10th).

GABF (Denver) - Apparently the popularity of the Great American Beer Festival not only locks out people who want to attend, but now also locks out breweries. Many popular breweries got "shut out" of participating in this year's GABF when the registration process apparently got real popular and ended up preventing several dozen breweries from getting a slot. Even the following Colorado breweries are now on the waiting list and may not get in: Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project, Bristol Brewing, Hogshead Brewery, Loveland Aleworks, and Rocky Mountain Brewery. There is apparently a limit to the number of breweries that can sign up and the festival reached it's limit for sign-ups within the first day of registration. Those who didn't sit at their computer early on were basically left out.

Strange Brewing Company (Denver) - While the trademark dispute rages on for their name, the brewery had to take down their Facebook page. But people on the know let it be leaked that there is another Facebook page out there for those who want to keep tabs on that brewery. Check out "That Brewery on Zuni" on Facebook to stay up to date on goings on down at 1330 Zuni Street in Denver, CO.

Boulder County

West Flanders Brewing (Boulder) - July brings back some returning favorites to West Flanders. Look for their Third Kingdom IPA - a fresh hop brew. Also, look for the new batch of Trippel Lutz, a great summertime brew. Then coming up on July 15th, they'll tap a new batch of Daisy Cutter, a Belgian-style Strong Ale.

Wild Woods Brewery (Boulder) - Today's special beer releases include "Grandma's Garden", a Kolsch-style ale made with fresh rhubarb, strawberry and basil. It's 5% ABV and 28 IBU. Also, don't forget to try their Sorachi Sun, a strong gold ale with honey and lemon and Sorachi Ace hops (7.4% ABV 43 IBU).

Twisted Pine Brewing Co (Boulder) - Don't forget Twisted Pine's 18th Anniversary Party this Saturday, July 13th from 2pm to 7pm. Get unlimited samples of over 30 different Twisted Pine beers with your ticket including some of their small batch and cellared brews. Tickets available at: twistedpine18.eventbrite.com.

FATE Brewing Company (Boulder) - Normally you see dark beers getting infused with coffee, but in this case they chose a much lighter brew. Come taste their new Coffee Kolsch. It's a collaboration brew with Ozo Coffee Company of Boulder. It's a slightly dark shade of Kolsch but reportedly awesome. Only available for a limited time.

Northern Colorado

The Fort Collins Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Tap Club Members and look forward to trying 3 variations on Major Tom's American Wheat. They are brewing up Peach, Lemon and Basil versions. By August 16th you can try all three. Then, look for the release of a new collaboration beer with Silver Grill Cafe on July 19th at 4-9pm in the taproom - Shady 80 - a lemon wheat ale. Also, FCB is introducing Out of the Ashes, a series of limited release beers that showcase the varied and unique flavors and aromas derived from grain smoked over wood-burning fires, an ancient but largely forgotten method of creating malt. The first two members of this ongoing series will be a Rauchbier (winner of a GABF 2012 Gold Medal) and Mesquite Chili Lime Ale. Mark your calendar for the release party at FCB on August 25th. More details to come.

New Belgium (Ft. Collins) - There's a new app for your Android or Apple products that will give you access to exclusive content from New Belgium. It's called Beer Mode. It has sections on Beer menu, Beer nearby, Beer Mode, Exclusive Content for upcoming beers and events, and a look at Brewery info. Available for free on Google Play or the Apple App Store.

Southern Front Range

Trinity Brewing (Colorado Springs) - They've completed their new barrel room, purchased a new bottling line, moved a Brite tank next door and are ready to produce even more bottles of their beer. They now have 90 French oak Chardonnay barrels aging beer. Last week they released Farmhouse Soleil - a summer Saison. This Friday, they plan to release Vert Gueuze, a 7 Day Sour ale. Then the next week, they release Farmhouse Fantôme, a Belgian Saison. Plenty to look forward to.
