Colorado Beer NewsToday is Tony the Tiger Day. Back on this day in 1951, Tony the Tiger became the animated mascot for Kellogg's Frosted Flakes cereal. And ever since that day we've been hearing "They're Gr-r-reat!". Speaking of great things, there's plenty of great Colorado craft beers and breweries to explore out there! it's also St. Arnold's Day - the Patron Saint of Brewers. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Thursday, July 18th, 2013. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Metro Denver

Epic Brewing (Denver) - Starting next week, the new 2nd brewery for Utah's Epic Brewing will debut 3 new Colorado beers: Blue Ski Lager, RiNo Pale Ale, and Escape to Colorado IPA. These beers were made at the new Denver facility. All of these beers will be sold at local liquor stores in both draft and 22oz bottles. Other upcoming beers from Epic Brewing in Denver include: Big Bad Baptist Imperial Stout and Brainless on Peaches - both of which are now aging in barrels and will be released in the fall. Look for upcoming Epic Brewing tapping events at Falling Rock Tap House (7/22), Hops & Pie (7/23), Star Bar (7/24), Backcountry Pizza (7/24), Lucky Pie (7/24), Kitchen Next Door (7/25), City O'City (7/25), Euclid Hall (7/26) and Colorado Plus Brewpub (7/26). Copper Kettle Brewing Co (Denver) - On Saturday, July 20th from 4-8pm stop in for "A Night To Remember" celebrating the lives of the friends lost in last year's Aurora theater shooting. 12 breweries, 4 food trucks, 2 bands and a lot of good people will participate in this event.

Yak & Yeti Brewery (Arvada) - Today is a good day to try some of their Blueberry Wheat and their Ponds Pale Ale. That plus 10 more beers on tap this week.

Breckenridge Brewery (Denver) - Stop down to Lucky Pie Lodo on July 31st for a Breckenridge Brewery Showcase starting at 4pm with a tapping of Stranahan's Well Built ESB and Regal Pilsner. Be there for a raffle and a chance to win a VIP brewery tour for 2 and win "Your Height in Beer Cases" in your choice of beer.

Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project (Denver) - Crooked Stave is now starting to ship beer to California. They filled up the first pallets of beer today and loaded them up on a truck. Unfortunately for us here in Colorado, that means a bit less beer for us.

Mountain Toad Brewing (Golden) - TODAY ever since 2pm - the release of TWO beers from their Small Batch Series will be available. Toad's Trail Pale EXP #1 and EXP #2. Come try both and help them decide which recipe should become the official Toad's Trail Pale Ale for future large batches. They are both light, summer sessionable pales that won't get you totally TOADED!

Colorado Rockies Baseball (Denver) - This weekend the Chicago Cubs are in town for a 3 game series Friday, Saturday and Sunday against our Rockies. And you know a lot of Cubs and Rockies fans will be there cheering and rooting for their team. Expect a crowd and a lot of beer to be poured in Lodo and around the local watering holes. Did you know that you can walk to Coors Field from Prost Brewing in just 15 minutes? Yup. Stop in for a pre-game or post-game beer.

Boulder County

Kyle's Brew Fest (Boulder) - Save the date for this Saturday, July 20th from 3-7pm at Boulder Beer Company for beers from 30+ breweries, 60+ beers and a live performance by Kyle Hollingworth of the String Cheese Incident. $30 admission. Tickets on sale at:

Twelve Degree Brewing (Louisville) - The brewery is hiring! If you are an experienced line cook or bartender/server looking for a fun, friendly, environment drop them a line through Facebook. No ego and a passion for craft beer are a must!

Northern Colorado

Pateros Creek Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Since it's Thursday, that means there's another new Outlaw beer on tap. Today it's Ashley's "Coyote Ridge Cali Common".

Equinox Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Today Jared tapped a firkin of Vernal Hefeweizen conditioned with Mandarin oranges. This is a brew that will go down well on a hot day like today.

Funkwerks (Ft. Collins) - There's a secret sixtel of beer that's made with their Tropic King that's been dry hopped with Calypso hops. It's available now at the taproom.

Southern Front Range

Smiling Toad Brewery (Colorado Springs) - The heat has returned, so has their Honey Basil Ale. Stop by and try a cool pint. Also on tap Toad Lick IPA, Belgian Farmhouse, Jumbe Porter, The Whit Rabbit and always the Bella Lavender Lager.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Remember tasting The Count? Bleeding Heart, Big Bad Wolf or their Hares Bride? You can taste some of those plus others at their 3rd Anniversary Dinner at The Garden Room (697 N. Denver Avenue in Loveland) directly behind their taproom on Friday, July 26th at 6:00pm. Wiley Roots Brewing Company (Greeley) - Don't forget - the Grand Opening of this new Greeley brewery is happening this Saturday, July 20th at 12 o'clock noon and last until 11pm. There will be 4 beers on tap, 3 different food trucks plus an art show!. Located at 625 3rd Street Unit D in Greeley - next door to Syntax Spirits.

Black Bottle Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Now on tap - they've got "La Migra", an Agave Wheat brew pouring that's a 6.4% 16 IBU summer ale. Stop in and try one and cool off.

Mountains and West

Crazy Mountain Brewery (Edwards) - On Saturday, August 17th, Crazy Mountain Brewing Company will host its Third Annual Alpine Insurance Agency Ed Fest: a beer and community festival from 3pm-7pm. “Ed” is short for Edwards, and this festival will take place in The Riverwalk at Edwards for the second time. Over 35 breweries will showcase their craft beers from around the nation and even parts of Europe. Festival goers can samples beers from: Lagunitas, Avery, Ommegang, Duvel, Firestone Walker, Odell, Sierra Nevada, Colorado Cider, and many more. The festival will also offer live entertainment by Hot Buttered Rum. The entertainment will continue with after parties hosted just steps away in the Riverwalk at E-Town and Main Street Grill. Ska Brewing (Durango) - Stop in tonight at the brewery for a Ska-B-Q from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the beer garden. There will be live music playing, food specials and $3 Ska pints. Come get some!

Summerfest (Evergreen) - This Saturday and Sunday up at the Center for the Arts in Evergreen, Colorado is Summerfest and the Palette of Brews beer tasting. Tickets are still available for this festival of arts, crafts, music and more. Tastings from 11am to 5pm. More info at:

Glenwood Canyon BrewPub (Glenwood Springs) - There's a new batch available on tap - Batch 2000 Rye IPA. You can do their Thursday Burger & Beer $10 special with it when in stop in today.
