Colorado Beer News 072513

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Hot Fudge Sundae Day. Nothing beats ice cream on a hot summer day, especially when it's made into a sundae and dripped with hot fudge. Mmmm. But, what can make this treat even better is to pair it with a dark imperial porter or stout. And while you're at it, why not mix the two together and make a beer float! Ya, that's it. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Thursday, July 25th, 2013. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Metro Denver

The "I Do Brew" - a small batch Belgian Dubbel will be enjoyed at their wedding celebration in Telluride and will also be tapped at 4pm in the tap room. Come celebrate their LOVE with BEER!

Odyssey Beerwerks (Arvada) - Today marks the first beer release in their ongoing Discovery Series. At 5:00pm they'll be tapping 5 gallons (about 50 pints) of mint-infused Psycho Penguin Vanilla Porter. First come, first served.

Three Freaks Brewery (Highlands Ranch) - A new brewery is headed for Highlands Ranch later this year. Jeff Atencio and Todd McClure (owners/brewers) plan to open the business by December 1st, 2013 at 7140 E. County Line Road in Highlands Ranch, CO. They plan to brew on a 5 BBL system and hope to have 4-5 Freakishly good beers on tap and then a couple of really funky ones. Check them out on Facebook and Like them. The brewery is named after Jeff's three kids whom he lovingly calls freaks.

Station 26 Brewing Company (Denver) - Speaking of new breweries, Justin Baccary let it be known that Station 26 Brewing Company is planning to open a brewery in the Park Hill / Stapleton area at 7045 E. 38th Avenue in Denver, CO 80207 - just off I-70 and Quebec. The plan is to open sometime in October 2013 and brew on a 15 barrel system. Check them out on Facebook and Twitter. The brewery will be located inside the old Fire Department Station 26.

Breckenridge Brewery (Denver) - It seemed to work for their Christmas Ale, so Breckenridge also put their SummerBright Ale in 1.32 gallon mini kegs and are now shipping them around Colorado. It's big and holds just over 14 12-oz servings or roughly 10.5 pints. It can only be found here in Colorado currently. Maybe in 2014 it will be distributed to other states.

Big Choice Brewing (Broomfield) - Their brewers have been busy over the course of the past month moving stuff around in the brewhouse to make room for a new 30 bbl fermenter and brite tank. They are hoping to begin using them in August. Have you tried their Biere De Garde? If you missed it, Zach just brewed another batch last week and it should be back on sometime in August. Big Choice will also be preparing to release the Hemlock Double IPA in cans next. Look for them in local stores soon.

Look for them to open at the end of next week and visit them at: 2707 W. Eisenhower Blvd Unit 3 in Loveland, CO. Also Like them on Facebook.

New Belgium (Fort Collins) - It may seem odd that New Belgium has not distributed beer to all of their next door neighboring states until now. Steamworks Brewing (Durango) - [Press Release] Firkin Fridays continues at Steamworks Brewing Co. with the monthly “firkin” tapping Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, featuring a special West Elk IPA. The cask will be tapped at 3 p.m. For the West Elk IPA, Steamworks Brew Master and Certified Cicerone® Ken Martin has taken the brewery’s popular Conductor Imperial IPA and kicked it up a notch. “Our Conductor, which is our most heavily hopped beer, has already had its normal dry hopping, but in the firkin we dry hopped it again with whole cone nugget hops from West Elk Hop Farms in Paonia, Colo.,” said Martin, explaining that West Elk is an organic hop farm, and Steamworks has been experimenting with some of its crops. “This secondary hopping with these whole cone hops that are in their natural form – but have been kiln dried straight off the vine – will give the already piney, spicy and resinous Conductor even more of the same character but with a unique freshness.”
