Colorado Beer NewsToday is International Beer Day. #IntlBeerDay - It's one of many special days set aside honoring one of the world's most favorite beverages. And what a better day to celebrate it on than a Friday! Bring a friend to a brewery taproom, a pub or a venue that serves great beer and enjoy a craft beer today. Cheers to water, malt, hops and yeast and sometimes more ingredients. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, August 2nd, 2013. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Metro Denver

Lone Tree Brewing (Lone Tree) - Hurry! Special limited tapping today at 5pm. Naked (no dry hop) Hoptree Double IPA on nitro tap! There's just 5 gallons of this bad boy so when it's gone it's gone!

Colorado Plus (Wheat Ridge) - Tonight they're hosting a mini-tap takeover for Strange Brewing Company. They've got the folks from That Brewery on Zuni aka Strange Brewing Company, coming in tonight at 7:30pm to chat about their Strange Brews. They are offering a flight with their Watermelon Hefe, Le Bruit du Diable Farmhouse Ale, Cherry Kriek, Breakfast Grapefruit IPA, and the IPAphany for just $7. Come by early for Happy Hour and get $1 off all beers from 2-6!

Boulder County

Very Nice Brewing (Nederland) - Tonight from 5pm to 7pm it's Nederland's First Friday Art Tour at the brewery. Join in at the tap room for a live demo from their featured artist Heather Taylor. Enjoy a Very Nice beer while viewing Heather in action and her vibrant artwork hanging on the walls. The taproom will be open 12pm - 9pm Friday and Saturday and 12pm - 7pm on Sunday.

Leftapalooza (Longmont) - This Saturday from 12pm to 8pm at Left Hand Brewing Company in Longmont it's the annual Mile High Tribute Band Competition - LEFTAPALOOZA! Non-stop cover music from nine different tribute bands will be competing for your votes. There will be plenty of Left Hand beers on tap plus a Kid Zone for the young ones. Cost is $10 adult, $5 5-12 yrs and free under 5. More info at

Avery Brewing (Boulder) - This Sunday, August 4th from 12pm to 5pm is the Avery 20th Anniversary Party at the brewery taproom. Come help Avery Brewing celebrate their 20th anniversary in style. Your ticket includes five 12oz Avery brews, a big BBQ food spread and live music. VIP tickets available which include 4 additional pours from the cellar. Hope you got a tickets as this event is most likely sold out. Also, coming next week is the annual release of The Kaiser Imperial Oktoberfest Lager. This year's it a big 10.2% ABV and will be tapped on Friday August 9th at 5pm.

Odd13 Brewing (Lafayette) - Lafayette's newest brewery opens tomorrow, Saturday August 3rd. Along with their 6 regular brews including an oatmeal stout, a coffee stout, a red IPA, a Belgian Golden Strong, a Saison, and a session IPA. Plus, they play to have at least four 5-gallon kegs of some special brews as well. Doors will open at 11am. There will be three different food trucks on site from 11am to 9pm. Northern Colorado

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Today is a beer release day at Grimm Brothers. Stop in for a taste of their new Iron John, a milk stout with flavors of chocolate and coffee. It's reportedly like a dessert in a glass.

Fort Collins Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Their brewhouse revamp is under way. They've been updating their 50 BBL, four vessel brewhouse. This process is expected to last a month. While the capacity isn't increasing, the improvements will help their processes tremendously. Check out all of their shiny equipment pictures on Facebook.

Gnarly Barley Brew Festival (Loveland) - This fest is in its 4th year at The Ranch in Loveland. Over 27+ breweries will be on hand for this annual event set at the Larimer County Fair. General admission tickets give you a sampling mug and 7 drink tokens for 4oz samples. Additional tokens available for $1 each. VIP tickets get you a sampling mug and unlimited 4oz samples and access to the VIP tent with food and specialty beers and a souvenir t-shirt and pint glass. Tommy Gun's Hideout (Loveland) - For those wanting to go to the Gnarly Barley Brew Fest, Tommy Gun's Hideout in Loveland has $15 tickets PLUS a FREE bus Ride to the festival! Shuttle runs from 11am to 7pm. Cash only for a fest ticket. Bus picks up at Tommy Gun's - 111 E. 5th Street in Loveland, CO.

Blown Spoke Hard Cider Co (Loveland) - It may not be beer, but a new hard cider and mead business is opening on the main US 34 corridor on the west side of Loveland tomorrow. It's from the owners of the Big Beaver Brewing Company and it's attached to the same building as Big Beaver. It's the new "Blown Spike Hard Cider Company". For the time being, they will only be open on Saturdays from 12pm to 10pm. They are located at 2707 W. Eisenhower Blvd Unit 3 in Loveland, CO. They will have 10 hard ciders on tap plus have mead and wine available as well.

Loveland Aleworks (Loveland) - New beer release today! Stop in to try their Mandarina Single Hop Pale Ale. It's currently on tap #6. It's reportedly super hoppy with mango like qualities from the hops.

Southern Front Range

Springs Beer Fest (Colorado Springs) - This Saturday from 12pm to 4pm at America The Beautiful Park it's the 7th annual Springs Beer Fest. Enjoy a fun-filled day of bottomless, fresh, craft beer samplings from over 45 Noteable Craft Brewers. Join 4,000 beer enthusiasts for an afternoon filled with games and amusements, live music and food from local restaurants! All proceeds will benefit Care and Share Food Bank of Southern Colorado. Mountains and West

Pug Ryan's Brewing Co (Dillon) - Hey all you motorcycle enthusiasts! Join Pug Ryan's Lakeside Tiki Bar and Silverthorne Power Sports as they team up to host “Bike Night at the Tiki Bar”. Bike or drive and meet at the Tiki Bar on Thursday night, August 22 at 5:30 PM. They'll be offering drink specials on beer and more, good food and prizes for all of Silverthorne Power Sports’ guests.

Bluegrass & Beer Festival (Keystone) - It's the 17th annual event featuring 30+ microbreweries and three separate stages of live bluegrass music. It all happens at Warren Station at Keystone Resort. The event takes place Saturday and Sunday 1-5pm. Tickets are $40 at the gate. Visit for more info.

Steamworks Brewing (Durango) - It's First Friday Firkin time! This month the firkin is "Duders" a double dry hopped imperial IPA (or Oat Soda as they call it). This special hoppy firkin taps at 3pm sharp. Get there early to reserve your pint.
