Colorado Beer NewsToday is National Relaxation Day. It's a day where you are encouraged to take it easy and simply relax. Of course, there's still some work to be done, no doubt, but when you get the chance to, relax. And what a better way to relax a bit is with a nice cool craft beer from your favorite local Colorado brewery! Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Thursday, August 15th, 2013. If you aren't reading this article on FermentedlyChallenged.com, you don't know what you're missing.

Metro Denver

ESPN Denver Beerfest (Glendale) - ESPN Denver is hosting the Inaugural ESPN Denver Beerfest this Saturday, August 17th. The fest will showcase Colorado’s premier craft breweries, local restaurants, food trucks, specialty shops and world-class rugby as the Serevi Rugbytown Sevens Tournament hits the field at Infinity Park at Glendale (4599 E Tennesee Ave - Glendale, CO). Come out and watch some rugby matches starting at 10:30am. The beerfest starts at 3:00pm and runs through 8:00pm. Check out the official event on Facebook.

Stapleton Beer Festival (Denver) - This Saturday, August 17th from 4pm to 8pm at The Green (2823 Roslyn Street in the Stapleton area) is the Stapleton Beer Festival. Over 25+ different local breweries will be pouring beers in this annual beer and food festival at The Green. There will be live music from 4pm to 8:30pm from two bands. Entrance for just the concerts is FREE. VIP tickets include a t-shirt, glass tasting cup, $9 in food vouchers and specialty pours (4-5pm). The Endless Summer (Denver) - This Friday night, August 16th from 8pm to 12am at the McNichols Building (144 W. Colfax) Summer's biggest send off event is here! The Endless Summer Beer & Spirits Festival will host some of Colorado's top craft breweries and distilleries at the historic McNichols Building downtown. Guests will taste endless amounts of breweries' summer seasonals (saisons, hefeweizens, etc) and distilleries' product (tastings along with summer cocktails). Endless Summer will also have top Denver food vendors, live music, lounges, and other awesome party features! All tastings, bites, and partying included with ticket price! Yak & Yeti (Arvada) - The brewpub has 3 new beers on the board this week. 1) Sherpa Prima - a robust porter aged 6 months in Leopold Bros whiskey barrels (5.4% ABV 32 IBU), 2) Saison du Yak - a Belgian-style Farmhouse Saison (8.2% ABV 24 IBU), and 3) Hatch Chili Pepper Wheat - roasted chili beer (5.3% ABV 27 IBU). On tap now - come get some!

Odyssey Beerwerks (Arvada) - Don't forget - today Odyssey is tapping a very limited batch of their Asian pear Tree-infused Palm Tree Lager. Happy hour is from 3pm to 5pm, with the Discover beer tapped at 5:00pm.

Star Bar (Denver) - There's a special beer release event that will take place at Star Bar tomorrow, August 16th at 5pm to 9pm. The Bruery, a 5 year old, award winning, boutique brewery based out of Orange County, CA, held a homebrew contest earlier this year to determine a beer to be brewed as their 1000th batch - the winners were Brian Pramov and Bryan Keas, two homebrewers from Denver, CO. Their beer, dubbed Bryeian, is a dark, hoppy rye ale that has now been brewed with their help and is ready for distribution by The Bruery, exclusively throughout Colorado and California and will be The Bruery’s Pro-Am entry into the Great American Beer Festival in October. Media & Fans are first to taste this new beer being released exclusively in Colorado and California. Visit the Star Bar at 2137 Larimer Street in Denver, CO.

Diebolt Brewing CompanyDiebolt Brewing Co (Denver) - Today marks the soft opening for Diebolt Brewing Company at 3855 Mariposa Street in Denver, CO - just north of West 38th Avenue and 3 blocks east of Pecos Street. They will be open with limited hours today from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. They will be featuring 2 of their beers today: Diebolt's Standard Porter (5.7% ABV) and Mariposa Pale Ale (6% ABV). Available in 10oz and Pint pours. Growler will also be available. They are still working out the kinks and plan to do an official grand opening at a later date (soon).

World of Beer (Cherry Creek) - Tonight is their special event "A Midsummer Night's Cider Dream" featuring craft hard ciders from all across the country. Ciders from Woodchuck, Wyders, Ace Joker, Colorado Cider Company, Redstone Meadery and more will be featured. It's also ladies night where the gals will get 50% off select drafts.

American Craft Beer Radio (102.3 FM Denver) - This Saturday, Gary V and company will be doing two shows. The first in studio at 11am til noon, and then a second show live at the ESPN Denver Beerfest from 3pm to 5pm. Plenty of special guests from Falling Rock Tap House, Elk Mountain Brewing, Dry Dock Brewing, World of Beer, Bull & Bush, Elevation Beer and Wynkoop Brewing.

Boulder County

The Kettle & Stone Brewing Co (Boulder) - New beer alert! This Friday, August 16th at 5:00pm, Kettle & Stone will be tapping what's being touted as "The First Beer of Its Kind" - American Bold Ale. Come try this big beer. Live music and food truck will also be on hand during this release party.

Boulder Beer Co (Boulder) - Don't forget! Tickets are on sale now for the upcoming 34th Anniversary Beer Rave set for Saturday, September 7th from 2pm to 6pm. Over 30+ breweries are expected to participate in this event featuring taproom-only rare brews. Tickets available at boulderbeer.com or at their pub. Also, coming up in September, look for the release of their new small batch seasonal called "Dragonhosen Imperial Oktoberfest". This is a big, malty lager that weighs in at 9% ABV. This will be available in 22oz bomber bottles and on draft.

In a different story, Boulder Beer Company put out a recall on their 12oz and 22oz bottles of Obovoid Oak-Aged Oatmeal Stout due to an over-carbonation safety hazard. This warning was issued This affects 22oz bottles with Lot 13042 (sell by date 2-11-2014) and Lot 13058 (sell by date 2-27-2014) as well as 12oz bottles with Lot 13058 (sell by date 6-10-2013), Lot 13070 (sell by date 6-24-2013) and Lot 13071 (sell by date 6-25-2013). If you have any of these bottles do not attempt to transport it or return it to the store. They ask that you put on protective gloves and eye wear, wrap the bottle in a towel and carefully open the bottle by removing the cap. Then safely dispose of this beer. Call 1-888-488-8448, extension 10 with questions.

Firefighter Appreciation Week Beer Fest (Boulder) - This Saturday, August 17th from 4pm to 10pm at the Twenty Ninth Street mall will be a big beer fest. There will be unlimited sampling of local beers for $55 from 15+ breweries. The price includes live music and access to the Fight Fire with Beer Governor's Cup beer competition. Proceeds go to benefit firefighters in the state. More info on this fest at: www.firefighterappreciationweek.org.

Northern Colorado

Mayor of Old Town (Ft. Collins) - Their Friday Afternoon Club (F.A.C.) promotion is back starting tomorrow (8/16). Stop in starting between 3pm - 5pm on Fridays, order an adult beverage and get a Jalapeno Cream Cheese pretzel with raspberry jalapeno dipping sauce for free! Now which of their 100 beers on tap will you pair that with?

Equinox Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Today's special limited tapping is a Strawberry Hefeweizen - served with a real strawberry! Stop in for a pint today while it lasts.

Loveland Aleworks (Loveland) - There's a new beer on tap today in the taproom. Stop in for an imperial pint of their 7 C's Rye Wheat. It's billed as a super-hoppy American Wheat beer and bittered with Falconer's Flight 7 C's hops, plus a bunch of rye and wheat. It weighs in at 4.9% ABV and will be served in a 20oz imperial pint glass.

Echo Brewing (Frederick) - Don't forget! Their Nocturnal Black IIPA is back on tap today! Pair that with some food from Shuffler Bros. BBQ. Echo Brewing has 12 beers on tap tonight. Stop by!

Southern Front Range

Foam Fest (Pueblo) - Foam Fest returns for its 10th annual run at the Colorado State Fair on Saturday, August 24th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. To attend, you'll need to pay regular fair gate admission plus buy a $30 commemorative glass. This will give you access to the Foam Fest with beers from 15+ breweries. Great Storm Brewing (Colorado Springs) - The brewery recently celebrated their 1st year anniversary and with it came an expansion of their tasting room and room for future additional brewing space. Yesterday, they celebrated with 4 new beers including: Eight Wolves IPA (nitro), Warped Rum Raisin Stout (nitro), Gose the Gozarian, and Blue Spruce Juice.

Bristol Brewing (Colorado Springs) - Today Bristol Brewing is starting to serve food in their new Pub. Stop in for a bite and a brew. Then don't forget to return this weekend for their official Grand Opening of their new Ivywild School location - going on this Friday and Saturday.

Mountains and West

Pug Ryan's Brewing Co (Dillon) - Tonight down at the Krystal 93 Tiki Bar they will be hosting a Dock Party from 5:00pm to 7:00pm by the docks of the Dillon Marina featuring Tiki Bar specials and chances to win Krystal 93 prizes. Plenty of Pug Ryan's beer will be available too.

Top 15 Craft Breweries (USA Today) - Last week, the USA Today posted an article listing the Top 15 Craft Breweries in the USA according to TheDailyMeal.com. Among the breweries listed, Colorado had 4 of those breweries. They included: New Belgium Brewing Company (#6), Odell Brewing Company (#11), Avery Brewing Company (#13) and Oskar Blues (#14).
