Colorado Beer NewsToday is Potatoe Day. It's a day to celebrate America's 2nd most often eaten food - aka the spud, the tater. The average American eats over 132 pounds of potatoes a year! That's a lot. It's a good source of potassium, iron, fiber and complex carbohydrates. It's also fat free! Cheers to that, better wash some down with a craft beer today. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, August 19th, 2013. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Metro Denver

Brewery Rickoli (Wheat Ridge) - Due to a recent change in the FDA guidelines on how gluten free products are defined, all of Brewery Rickoli non-wheat beers are now considered gluten free. They have one of the most extensive lines of gluten-free craft beers around. They use a product called Clarity-Ferm that breaks up the polypeptides of glutens, thereby removing it from their beer. Plus it doesn't reduce the taste from their beer. Their beers contain less than 5ppm of gluten and are tolerable to those with Celiac Disorder.

Prost Brewing (Denver) - Come help Prost Brewing celebrate their 1st Anniversary today starting at 12 noon. Wish them well and toast to many more years to come. Their 1st Anniversary Celebration lasts from August 25th through August 25th. Prost!

Colorado Plus (Wheat Ridge) - Due to a new agreement, Colorado Plus is now serving select craft beers from De Steeg Brewing on their taps!

Lowry Beer Garden (Denver) - If you stop in tomorrow, August 20th, for their #MoonDay celebration between 5-10pm - order a Blue Moon Belgian White draft and enter their drawing for a chance to win 2 GABF tickets! It'll be a full moon that night too!

Fermentation Festival and MarketFermentation Festival & Market (Denver) - On August 24th and 25th, Denver Highlands Masonic Center will play host to the city’s newest and possibly most unique food and beverage festival. The first annual Fermentation Festival and Market will provide attendees the rare opportunity to sample offerings while chatting with some of the foremost experts in the field of fermentation. Participants include some of Colorado’s top chefs and brewers, as well as many of the region’s brightest rising culinary talents. Education will also be a key component to the festival, with classes being offered on topics ranging from kimchi production to home beer brewing. “Our hope is that attendees go home excited to try their hand at fermentation,” says festival organizer Mike Burns. “We want to give people not only a better understanding and a deeper appreciation for the process of fermentation and its uses— but also the tools to go home and put that knowledge in action.” More info at:

Boulder County

Boulder Beer CO (Boulder) - Sign up your team for their annual Cornhold Tournament. It's set for Labor Day. The tournament is limited to 16 teams. Winning team gets tickets to The Beer Rave and a Gift Certificate for a keg of beer. Register via email to It's a fun way to spend part of your Labor Day weekend.

Gravity Brewing (Louisville) - Gravity Brewing it turning 1! Plan to attend their 1st annual Anniversary Celebration set for Saturday, september 7th from 12 noon to 10:00pm in Louisville, CO. There will be hourly tappings of special barrel aged beers and other small batch beers throughout the day. Plus tasty food options, fun and tomfoolery. Lafayette Homebrew Supply (Lafayette) - Homebrewers near in Boulder County will want to know about a brand new homebrew shop opening up on Sunday, September 1st, 2013. Lafayette Homebrew Supply is located at 400 W South Boulder Road, Suite 2500. Their initial hours will be 10am-5pm Saturdays and Sundays as well as 11am-7pm Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri. Closed on Tuesdays. Here's one of their first specials: Around the 6th of September, they will be getting in fresh cut Cascade hops from Niwot Hops. They will be selling these hops for $2 an ounce or $22 a pound. Odell Woodcut No 7 Russian Imperial StoutOdell Brewing Co (Ft. Collins) - Due to the construction schedule today, their taproom will be closed today and tomorrow (August 19th and 20th). Please stop back in on Wednesday. Also, in other news from Odell, a new label for their next beer in their Woodcut series has been released. Coming later this year will be Odell Woodcut No. 7 - Russian Imperial Stout. Dark beer lovers are going to want to seek this out once it is released. From the label: "Darkness has eclipsed the Woodcut Series for the 7th offering, a Russian Imperial Stout. The thick and hearty brew boasts a rich chocolate malt flavor with a touch of roasted coffee character. The bold base is enhanced by hints of vanilla, toasted hazelnut and oak from the new barrels."

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - Did you know that you can now get select City Star beers on tap at CHUBurger in Longmont for a limited time? Yup! Stop in soon if you're in the Longmont area.

Tap and Handle (Ft. Collins) - Tonight is Pint Night - this time featuring the beers of Left Hand Brewing Company. Buy a Left Hand brew and keep the logo pint glass! Starts at 5pm. While supplies last.

Crow Hop Brewing Co (Loveland) - Sometime in the near future, another brewery will be opening in the heart of downtown Loveland - Crow Hop Brewing Company. They plan to be located at 217 E. 3rd Street. Check the out on Facebook or their website:

Brues Brothers Brewing (Pueblo) - Coming in the Spring of 2014 is another brewery to Pueblo. This one will be located along the historic Riverwalk area at 130 Central Main Street. For more info track them on

Ouray Brewery (Ouray) - What's on tap at Ouray Brewery these days? How about: Revenue Red, San Juan IPA, Box Canyon Brown, Camp Bird Blonde. Coming this week: Gold Nugget IPA, and Red Mountain Rye. Plus, in 4-6 weeks they'll be tapping a Test Batch Scottish Ale. And in November, look for their Special 100th Batch of Beer party!

Fat Abbey Brewing Co (Cedaredge) - The small town of Cedaredge will soon have its own brewery. Fat Abbey Brewing Company plans to open at 17996 Hanson Road. Follow their progress on Facebook.
