Colorado Beer NewsToday is Barrel Aged Beer Day. At last, a day dedicated to those stronger ales that have been tucked away in barrel rooms for months and are now pouring for your enjoyment. Some local brewers have used whiskey, bourbon, wine, tequila, plain oak and even gin barrels to age their beers. Seek out a barrel aged beer today. Ask your server or liquor store if they have a beer that's been aged in wood. If you need some suggestions - check these out! Metro Denver

Black Shirt Brewing (Denver) - Hey, has it been a year already? Yup. BSB is planning their 1st Anniversary Party for Saturday, October 12th from 2pm to 10pm at their place. They'll have lots of food, live music and unique tappings on the hour, every hour. Here's a peek into what they'll be tapping that day: Beet Saison, Coffee Red Porter, Chai Red Ale, Caraway Pale Red, Sticke Altbier, Red Farmhouse, Barrel-aged Red Ale, and an Imperial Red Rye Stout. Sound good? Then head over to 3719 Walnut Street on the 19th and join in.

Great Divide Brewing (Denver) - October signals the release of three of the brewery’s most anticipated and storied seasonal beers: Hibernation Ale (8.7% ABV), Fresh Hop Pale Ale (6.1% ABV 55 IBU) and Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout (9.5% ABV). All three of these highly respected beers will be available through December. All three beers are available at the Great Divide Tap Room for onsite enjoyment and growler fills to-go.

Barrels & Bottles Brewery (Golden) - Ever had a coffee infusion into your beer? Stop in and try it. They'll take Epic Brewing's RiNo Pale Ale and inject coffee into it with their infusion tower. It'll help keep you perked up on a cold Fall day like today.

Cannonball Creek Brewing (Golden) - On this side of Golden they are returning their "Not Mindbender Imperial IPA" to their tapwall today. Plus, Worldwide Vittles is in the house serving up food. The tasting room opens at 3pm today.

CAUTION: Brewing Co (Denver) - Stop in tomorrow when they tap a firkin of "The Earl", a Earl Grey English Mild. It'll tap at 1pm before the corn hole fun begins. Come rub the Firkin for good luck! The tap room is open today from 4pm to 8pm too.

Yak & Yeti (Arvada) - Don't forget, their Oktoberfest lagerbier taps today at 4pm. Prost!

Boulder County

Left Hand Brewing (Longmont) - On Thursday, October 17th in the Tasting Room, Left Hand is partnering with The Muse Gallery to provide one night a month to mix and mingle with local artists, and get to know a little about their creative process and enjoy a beer or two at the same time. The third Thursday each month is a great opportunity to meet some local artisans and perhaps even purchase a piece of handmade regional artwork. Arts and Ales starts at 5pm. For more information call 303-678-7869 or www.Artslongmont.org. - Also, today they are tapping their "Fade to Black Volume 5", a black rye ale (7.8% ABV). It has spicy rye notes washed away by earthy hops, leaving behind a slight black pepper sensation.

Avery Brewing (Boulder) - Tap room hours during GABF Week (Oct. 9-12) will be 9am - 11pm with complimentary tours at 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm. Avery will also be tapping rare and exclusive beers every day at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, and 4pm, including Tweak, Bad Apple, Überschwein, Vanilla Out of Mind, Dihos Dactylion, El Padre, MurveR, vintage Demons, and vintage Eremitas! Keep an eye on their Facebook page and their GABF calendar for the tapping schedule! Fall Day IPA is already on tap and Eremita VI (sour) taps at 5pm today in their tap room.

Upslope Brewing (Boulder) - There are some special tappings scheduled for next week during GABF week at Upslope. On Wednesday, Oct. 9th at the Flatiron Park location come try their "Upslope Barleywine" (15% ABV). This beer has been aged for 3.5 years in whiskey barrels. Meanwhile at the Lee Hill tap room the same day they'll tap "Illegal Peach" Session Ale (5.4% ABV), a collaboration with Illegal Pete's. This beer was brewed with over 200 pounds of Palisade peaches. Then on Thursday October 10th, they'll tap a specialty keg of "Upslope Oatmeal Stout" at Flatiron Park at 4pm. And a keg of "Upslope Cabernet IPA" and "Rum Barrel AGed Oatmeal Brown Ale" at Lee Hil at 4pm. Plus, Upslope will be participating in several events around Denver and Boulder for GABF. Find them at: The Corner Bar, Falling Rock Tap House, Fire on the Mountain, Alamo Draft House, The Kitchen Next Door, Rackhouse Pub, Freshcraft, Backcountry Pizza, West End Taphouse and The Mayor of Old Town in Ft. Kettle & Stone Brewing (Boulder) - Fans of their stout take note. They've announced the return of their Freedom Stout. It's back on tap today in the taproom. Stop in for food tonight also from Bon Appetite Food Truck and listen to some jazz from Pocket Change later today.

Sanitas Brewing Co (Boulder) - Starting today, 6-pack cans of their Sanitas Saison are available. Find some at B Town Wine & Spirits in Boulder.

Odd13 Brewing (Lafayette) - Here's a unique pairing. Come to their Dukes Jerky and Beer Pairing event on Monday, October 7th at 7pm at the brewery. Tickets are $20 per person. RSVP to their Facebook message by October 6th.

Northern Colorado

The Mayor of Old Town (Ft. Collins) - New Belgium Factoid: The 2 beers that make up New Belgium's La Folie are named Oscar and Felix. New Belgium has produced a new sour using Oscar and Felix and has submitted it to the #GABF. It has appropriately been named 'Odd Couple' and the Mayor just happens to have a keg of it! Look for it to be tapped today or tomorrow. Stop in and celebrate "Tap Into Northern Colorado" with 100 taps from NoCo breweries. Today is has a special event with Fort Collins Brewery from 3-5pm. FCB will have a rep in house to talk about their beers. Plus buy a drink during FAC (3-5pm) and get a FREE Stuffed Jalapeno Pretzel with dipping sauce!

Funkwerks (Ft. Collins) - Fans of Funkwerks' Deceit will be happy to note that today marks the 2013 Fall Release of their popular Belgian-Style Golden Ale. Deceit was a 2012 GABF Gold medal winner and is now available once again. They recently redesigned the Deceit label for enhanced brand recognition. They also plan to redesign the labels for Saison and Tropic King next. Visit Funkwerks at booth M16 at the #GABF.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Monday, October 7th marks the tapping of their Buffalo Trace Bourbon Barrel-aged "Devil's Riddle", an Old Ale that's been aged for several months. It's part of their kick-off for GABF week.

Wiley Roots Brewing (Greeley) - Drink beer at a public library? You can during the upcoming "Books & Beer" event at ReadCon 2013 at the Farr Library in Greeley, CO on November 2nd. Wiley Roots will be pouring their Deep Roots Chocolate Porter and Red Wiley Amber there. Colorado breweries and Colorado authors will appear to provide an opportunity for ReadCon patrons to discover both. Local authors will be signing books. Farr Library is located at 1939 61st Avenue in Greeley.

Odell Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Coincidence? Odell Brewing is bottling their new Woodcut No. 7 on Barrel Aged Beer Day. Woodcut No 7 is a Russian Imperial Stout that was aged in oak barrels. It's described as a "thick and hearty brew that boasts a rich chocolate malt flavor with a touch of roasted coffee character. The bold base is enhanced by hints of vanilla, toasted hazelnut and oak from the new barrels." This beer will soon be available in 750ml bottles.

Crabtree Brewing (Greeley) - Dark days call for dark beers. Today they've got their Oatmeal Stout back on tap and they're brewing up another batch while this one is going. Stop in for a pint and warm up with them.

Black Bottle Brewery (Ft. Collins) - In case you overslept, Black Bottle has their Panty Dropper Ale (PDA) back on tap today. Plus several special new guest beers from cans or bottles. Ask about them.

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - Don't forget Berthoud Oktoberfest tomorrow in Fickel Park 11am - 6pm. City Star will be pouring their Altoberfest beer, an Oktoberfest inspired ale. Dress warm!

Southern Front Range

Red Leg Brewing Co (Colorado Springs) - Today is a special release of their Pumpkin Saison tonight at 5pm. Commanders Club Members will get first crack at this beer at 4pm. This is a limited batch so don't delay.

Trinity Brewing (Colorado Springs) - It's back! "Damn it Feels Good to be a Gansta'" has returned. This popular beer will be tapped today at 5pm. Come thirsty (and hungry too). Trinity will fill you up.

Lofty Brewing Company (Colorado Springs) - Despite the government shutdown, Lofty Brewing Company is now a licensed brewery. They will debut their beers November 2nd at the All Colorado Beer Festivall in Colorado Springs. Stop by and say hi.

Mountains and West

Crazy Mountain Brewing (Edwards) - Starting today, Crazy Mountain is doing a "Suds to Help the Floods" fundraiser for the Colorado flood victims. $15 gets you a cool t-shirt and a pint of their Rocky Mountain High Pumpkin Pie - debuting today for the first time this Fall. They will also have live music by Kevin Heinz & Friends tonight from 6-8pm. Grab some pumpkin beer and support a great cause at the same time!

Steamworks Brewing (Durango) - Steamworks Brew Master and Certified Cicerone Ken Martin has taken the brewery’s seasonal Ale Diablo to the dark side calling it "Diablo Negro" and kicked it up a notch for today is Firkin Friday! This “devilishly good” firkin will be tapped today at 3 p.m., as Steamworks Brewing Co. continues its monthly showcase of unique hand-crafted beers, Firkin Friday.

Pagosa Brewing Co (Pagosa Springs) - Just in time for Barrel Aged Beer Day. GROG is back on tap today at 4pm. This is their big Barrel Aged Brown Ale. It was aged in French Oak Rum Barrels.

Elevation Beer Co (Poncha Springs) - Looks what's available in bottles! Their Downpour Fresh Hop India Red Ale. It weighs in at 8.3% ABV and 85 IBUs and comes in a big 750ml bottle. Available in the tasting room.

Statewide

Wasatch Beers and Squatters Beer (Utah) - After receiving lots of requests from Colorado drinkers over the last several years, these two Utah breweries have relented and will now be shipping their beers to Colorado starting this month. Wasatch Beers is know for their: Polygamy Porter, Devastator Double Bock, Ghostrider White IPA, and Apricot Hefeweizen. Squatters Beer is known for: Hop Rising DIPA, IPA, Full Suspension Pale Ale, and Chasing Tail Golden Ale. Available now.
