Colorado Beer NewsToday is the start of #GABF Week and Denver Beer Fest week. The Great American Beer Festival, Colorado's biggest beer festival happens this week October 10-12 and over 50,000 people will be in town for this massive celebration of craft beer. There will be special events, tappings and celebrations happening all week long. Are you ready Colorado? Let the festivities begin! Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, October 7th, 2013. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Metro Denver

World of Beer (Cherry Creek) - For those not attending the Thursday night GABF session, stop over to World of Beer in Cherry Creek for a special "Ommegang's Take the Black Release Party". Ommegang has partnered up with HBO and Game of Thrones to release specially licensed beers. The newest beer in this line is their "Take the Black Stout". In addition to this beer, they will also be featuring 9 other beers from Brewery Ommegang of New York including Hennepin, Rare Vos, Witte, Three Philosophers, Abbey, BPA and more. Also, Cigar City Brewing will have two of their beers on tap as well (and they don't even distribute to Colorado). Get it while you can!

Hops & Pie (Denver) - One of Denver's best beer spots will be hosting a special night of ales featuring pours from Crooked Stave, Jester King, Perennial, Jolly Pumpkin and Prairie. Several sours will be featured on Wednesday, October 9th from 11:30am until those kegs kick. This is a rare opportunity to get several of these beers here so be sure to drop by. Hops & Pie is located at: 3920 Tennyson Street in Denver, CO.

Arvada Beer Co (Denver) - It's Great American Beer Festival week, come in any day this week and they will give you 3 free tasters. Just tell your server you saw this post here on Fermentedly Challenged! This deal is valid through Sunday, October 13th. Come check out the 12 new beers on tap now at Arvada Beer. Coming up the week of October 20th, ABC will be celebrating their 2nd Anniversary. Every day of that week, they will be releasing a new beer for you to enjoy! Visit their website to see the specific beers and their release dates. Saturday, October 26th is the official 2 year anniversary and they will be live broadcasting the Colorado Craft Beer Show (AM 760) from 12pm to 2pm. There will be several items given away during the show to those in attendance.

Lone Tree Brewing (Lone Tree) - Stop in for some great new seasonal brews including "West Green Hopped IPA" and Mr. Moo's Pumpkin Brew. Both now on tap. Food trucks on site this week from Wednesday through Saturday. Listen to live music every Friday this month. And get ready for "Hop-Apocalypse Day" on October 26th. Also watch for their Chili Beer tapping in late October.

River North Brewery (Denver) - Starting today you can start finding 4-pack cans of River North's White Ale in stores. River North partnered with Mobile Canning to put this flavorful beer in cans. From here on, River North plans to ramp up production of White and expand distribution to match their other bottled beers.

That Brewery on Zuni (Denver) - Strange Brewing is tapping Noah's D'Ark today. It's a 6.5% ABV 25 IBU beer and was made as a Beers Made By Walking beer using fresh hops and prickly pear found along the banks of the river during flood week. Also be sure to check out the "Beers Made By Walking" event at Wynkoop Brewing Company tomorrow at 5pm. Strange Brewing still has some Watermelon Hefe, DH/FH IPAphany and Oaked Hop Candy on their taps. Live music will be playing at 7pm tonight as well.

Elk Mountain Brewing (Parker) - Stop in for some fresh craft beer, Monday Night Football and FREE PIZZA! You heard right. Get some during the game. Ask your server for details.

Beer By Design Brewery (Northglenn) - Tomorrow, stop in for $2 Tuesday. You can get $2 BBD Lucille Red drafts and $2 slices of pizza from Anthony's II Pizza.

The Brew on Broadway (Denver) - Come on down to the Falling Rock Taphouse at 5 pm as they are tapping The Bob's "Cinderella Twin Double IPA". For those who can't join in tonight it will be tapped at 5 pm on Tuesday at The Brew on Broadway ( The BoB ).

Prost Brewing (Denver) - Everyone's invited to the second annual GABFEST hog roast. Prost is hosting a pig roast on Tuesday, October 8th with help from their friends at Highland Tap & Burger, Old Major and Masterpiece Deli. It's a great way to kick off a full week of festivities to celebrate the Great American Beer Festival. The divine swine provided by Old Major will be cooking all day on Prost's patio with all the fixin's and some of the best views of the city. Get ready to eat around 4 or 5pm and don't even try to grab the jowls ahead of the brewers.

Brewery Rickoli (Wheat Ridge) - For GABF today, you can get $3 pints of "Meh Cream Ale" all day long. And tomorrow, get $3 pints of "Riiiiiiight" all day. Locals know what they are talking about. Stop in and find out for yourself.

Boulder County

BRU Handbuilt Ales (Boulder) - Going to the GABF? Wear your BRU t-shirt or hat to the GABF, take a picture of yourself while sporting it, post that pic on social media with the hashtag #BRUatGABF then stop by our booth (E3) for a complimentary beer card to use on your next visit to BRU handbuilt ales & eats. BeerAdvocate Events (Boulder) - Beer Geeks! Tour Boulder with BeerAdvocate. The Alstrom Brothers from BeerAdvocate Magazine are heading to Boulder for some GABF week shenanigans. They plan to hit up eight locations on Wednesday, October 9th including BRU Handbuilt Ales, FATE Brewing, Wild Woods Brewery, J Wells Brewery, Sanitas Brewing Co, West Flanders Brewing, Shine Restaurant & Brewery, and Bohemian Biergarten. Left Hand Brewing (Longmont) - Let the GABF special taps begin! Today they have these special brews pouring in their taproom: St. Vrain Tripel Ale, Ambidextrous Ale Step 5: Sticke Alt, and Fade to Black Volume 5: Rye Black Ale. Start your GABF week off right, er left.

Northern Colorado

The Mayor of Old Town (Ft. Collins) - Tonight from 5pm to 7pm, it's a special Brewers night with Grimm Brothers Brewhouse of Loveland, CO. The will be bringing some authentic syrups in for you to try with their Berliner Weisse - The Baron. Grimm Bros will be giving out some swag for this event. It's all part of "Tap into Northern Colorado" event - all 100 taps dedicated this week to beers from Northern Colorado. Come see why The Mayor was named one of the best beer bars by, Draft Magazine and Playboy.

Gravity Brewing (Louisville) - Gravity Brewing will be opening at noon this week for GABF on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Regular hours Tuesday and Sunday. They will be offering some special barrel aged beer tappings this week including: Barrel Aged Belgian Strong, Barrel Aged Weizenbock, Barrel Aged Brett ESB, and more!

Echo Brewing (Frederick) - GABF week brings good beer, good food and fun every night at the brewery. Trivia Night on Tuesday from 7-9pm. Special tappings this week include their Rye IPA (available now), a firkin of Blackberry Hefeweizen on Thursday, Oct. 10th, a firkin of Double Dry Hopped Rye IPA with Galaxy hops on Friday, October 11th, and a final firkin on Saturday, October 12th of Double Dry Hopped Amarillo Session Ale with Symcoe hops. Live music on Saturday too from 6-8pm.

Odell Brewing (Ft. Collins) - During GABF week, stop in the tap room for several special pilot brews including: Crush (White IPA), Hela's Nectar (Pro Am Belgian Golden), Stoop Slammer (sour mash), Russian Imperial Stout, ESG (Extra Special Ginger), Submarine Screendoor (Pale Ale), Rum Barrel Aged Stout, Under the Bridge (cask), and Creme Brule Porter (Friday firkin). Not to mention Conundrum Coffee will be in the house infusing their coffee with Odell Nitro Cutthroat Porter on Saturday and Sunday October 12-13 from 2-6pm. Don't forget also, live music every Wednesday from 4-6pm.

Big Beaver Brewing (Loveland) - When a brewery and hard cider company share a building you know they're going to influence each other in some way. Big Beaver just came out with a Cinnamon Apple beer. It used cider yeast in addition to beer yeast. It's the perfect fall refresher.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Devil's Riddle will be on tap today! This beer is a Bourbon Barrel aged Old Ale at 13% ABV. It was aged in third use of Buffalo Trace Bourbon Barrels for 10 months. Brettanomyces plays a part of this highly complex beer. First aroma gives off bourbon, dried fruits and a touch of Brett. A heavy, complex body of malt and then a smooth somewhat dry finish balanced from tannins and Brett.

Southern Front Range

Steamworks Brewing Co (Durango) - Hop heads! Now on tap - Elephant Rider Imperial Pale Ale. This beer was measured at 113 IBUs and above average ABVs. You know you want some, so when in Durango you know where to stop.

Mountains and West

Elevation Beer Company (Poncha Springs) - Looking for a taste of Elevation Beer during GABF in Denver? If you can't reach them inside the GABF then look for them at the following events this week: Oct. 8th @ Beers Made By Walking at Wynkoop Brewing 5pm., Oct 9th @ World of Beer Cherry Creek's Barrel Aged Competition 6pm and at Rackhouse Pub's Rare Beer Tasting at 6pm. Oct. 10th @ Lucky Pie's Elevation Whiteout event at 2pm. Oct. 11th @ Pints or Prostates Rare Beer Tasting at McNichols Civic Center at 1pm and at Cheba Hut's Elevation Tasting at 1pm and also at Crooked Stave's What The Funk Festival at 6pm. And finally, Oct 12th @ Freshcraft for the special tapping at 7pm. Celebrate safe Colorado!

Other GABF Week Events

Goose Island Beer Co (Chicago, IL) - Goose Island is planning a special "Fruits of Our Labor" event at Old Major - Seafood, Swine & Wine in Denver on Wednesday, October 9th starting at 3pm. There they will unveil 4 different wine barrel aged beers with all local fruit. These barrel-aged sour beers are sure to peak the interest of sour lovers. Come try these 4 Goose Island beers: Gillian, Halia, Lolita, and Juliet. Also meet and talk with Goose Island brewers at 5pm during this event. Old Major is located at: 3316 Tejon Street in Denver, CO.

Stone Brewing (California) - Folks in Colorado can soon look forward to a new Stone collaboration beer on Colorado shelves. It's a 3-way collaboration from Stone, 10 Barrel Brewing of Oregon, and Bluejacket of Washington DC. The beer is called Suede Imperial Porter, an ale brewed with honey, calendula flowers and jasmine. This is a big 9.6% ABV beer so tread carefully. In stores soon.

Marquis Theater (Denver) - On Friday, October 11th starting at 7pm, it's a party with The Pietasters and a Taster's Choice (Coffee Doppelbock) collaboration beer release from Ska Brewing and DC Brau. Join BeerAdvocate, DC Brau and Ska Brewing for an epic night of beer and music on Friday, October 11 at The Marquis Theater featuring The Pietasters, special guests and the Colorado release of Taster's Choice! DC Brau and Ska will also be pouring several more of their beers. Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 (if available) at the door and are going fast. Located at 2009 Larimer Street in LoDo.

Star Bar (Denver) - Saturday, October 12th from 2pm to 6pm will be a BeerAdvocate GABF gathering at Star Bar. They will be pouring a variety of beers from Crooked Stave, Perennial, Prairie, Scheldebrouwerij and some other rarities. They'll even be making some beer cocktails. Come chatter with the Alstrom Bros if you're not at the Members only GABF session. Located at 2137 Larimer Street.
