Colorado Beer NewsToday is Face Your Fears Day. Wouldn't it be nice if you could stand up to your fears and overcome them? That's what today is all about. Recognize what you fear and try to tackle it head on. If you never try to overcome your fears then you'll keep yourself at a disadvantage. Why not do something today to stare your fear in the face and get beyond it once and for all. Just remember, some things do take time to overcome, but if you start taking those first steps today, it'll be a step in the right direction. Metro Denver

Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project (Denver) - Now that their own brewing location is open at The Source, folks headed to Denver will always have a destination to get their fix of Crooked Stave beers. However, if you want to get some Crooked Stave in other locations during GABF you can stop by these events around town this week: Today, Oct 8th: Beers Made By Walking @ Wynkoop Brewing 5-8pm. and also at West End Tavern's Beer Dinner in Boulder at 7pm. Wed. Oct. 9th tappings at Hops & Pie all day starting at 11am, also at The Rackhouse Pub's Colorado Rare Beer Tasting at 6pm, and at Young Guns Dinner at The Kitchen Denver at 6pm (sorry Sold Out). Thursday Oct 10th tappings at Backcountry Pizza & Tap House in Boulder at 6pm. Friday Oct. 11th: Denver Rare Beer Tasting at McNichols Civic Center Building at 12pm, and at the sold out What The Funk!? event. And on Saturday Oct. 12th: tappings at The Kitchen Denver at 11am all day long.

Falling Rock Tap House (Denver) - Today's GABF events include a 2pm Spiegelau (glassware) Beer Connoisseur Tasting Seminar in the basement, at 3pm St. Arnold Pumpkinator & Bishop's Barrel 4 cask tappings. At 4pm, tappings of Speakeasy's Butcher Town Black and Double Big Daddy IPA. At 9pm, Cigar City pourings of 5 different Jai Alai brews. And at 11pm Schmaltz Brewing tappings of Death of a Contract Brewer, St. Lenny's, Jewbelation 17 and Genesis. Something new tapping every day this week. Expect crowds all week long.

Prost Brewing (Denver) - In town for the GABF but looking for something today? Stop in to Prost Brewing for a FREE Pig Roast today at 4pm. The food is being provided by Highland Tap & Burger, Old Major and Masterpiece Deli. It's a great way to get to know some good Prost beer with the free food. Prost is located at: 2540 19th Street in Denver, CO - just west off I-25 at the 20th Street exit.

Wynkoop Brewing Co (Denver) - Today from 5-8pm at the Wynkoop you can taste a variety of beers that were made with ingredients found by walking around various locations around Colorado. Over 17 breweries are participating in this unique beer event. The cost is $30 for an unlimited tasting of these special beers upstairs above the bar. Wynkoop Brewing is located at: 1634 18th Street in Denver.

Alamo Drafthouse (Littleton) - Today marks the arrival of The Beer Diaries at Alamo Drafthouse. They will be showing two separate episodes, one at each showing (7pm and 9:30pm). During each showing you'll have a chance to taste some delicious craft beer while watching a show about craft beer. Episode 3 at 7pm showcases New Belgium, Funkwerks, and Upslope Brewing. Episode 4 highlights TRVE, Breckenridge, Wynkoop, Denver Beer Co, Renegade and Prost Brewing. Located at: 7301 S. Santa Fe Drive in Littleton.

Great Divide Brewing Co (Denver) - The Denver City Council just approved the rezoning of land in the RiNo area that will pave the way for Great Divide to build a new brewery between 3345 and 3457 Brighton Boulevard in Denver. This property is a 5.1 acre parcel and when the new facility opens in 2015 it will add an additional 30 to 40 employees on top of the 30 or so they already have at their current location on Arapahoe Street.

Barrels & Bottles Brewery (Golden) - Special guest tappings take the highlight this week at B&B. Today they will feature 10 beers from Schmaltz Brewing of New York including several editions of Jewbelations. Normally they are closed on Tuesdays but not today. Then on Wednesday, October 9th they will host Brewery Ommegang and 11 of their beers including the HBO Game of Thrones beer "Take the Black". Beers start pouring at 5pm each day. Shmaltz will be giving away 2 tix to the GABF. Winner can pick any day/session they want.

Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) - This week's Wednesday Firkin continues their October "Dead Styles" Cask Month. Tomorrow, October 9th they will tap a cask of "White Stout" at 3pm.

Paramount Cafe (Denver) - Paramount Cafe in Denver will be hosting an education and tasting event tonight from 6pm-9pm. New Belgium, Odell, Oskar Blues, Great Divide, Boulder Beer, Breckenridge, Left Hand, Avery, Crabtree, Funkwerks and more will have representatives and beer in attendance. Located at 519 16th Street.

Breckenridge Brewery (Denver) - Here are some events that Breckenridge Brewery will be participating in this week in addition to the GABF. Oct. 10th - Firkin Festival @ Ale House at Amato's (2501 16th St) at 2pm. Oct. 11th - Meet the Brewer & Tap Takeover at Pub 17 @ Grand Hyatt (1750 Welton St) at 1pm and is FREE. Also same day, GABF After Party Part 1 at Paramount Cafe (519 16th St) at 9pm and also GABF After Party Part 2 at Norad Dance Bar (821 22nd St) 10pm.

Wazee Supper Club (Denver) - The "Breweries Coast to Coast" event is tonight, October 8th from 6pm to 8pm featuring beers from Left Hand, Dogfish Head, Boulevard Brewing, and Firestone Walker. There's a brewery from every US timezone (excluding Alaska and Hawaii). They'll be pouring a couple beers from each brewery. Located at: 1600 15th Street in Denver, CO.

Arvada Beer Co (Arvada) - Today they are offering a special for this week only. Join the Beer for a Year deal and get a growler fill a month for 12 months for just $90 (valued up to $240). Offer extends to October 12th only.

Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project (Denver) - Tapping this week for GABF at The Source taproom: Tuesday - WWBV (Violet), Wednesday - MamaBears Sour Cherry Pie, Thursday - Nightmare on Brett (Whiskey Barrel Aged), Friday - Sentience (barrel aged) and WaelzBlood, and saturday - Musty Cedar Box (barrel aged). Located at 3350 Brighton Blvd.

Boulder County

Boulder Beer Co (Boulder) - New beer alert! Come try their new Spirit Guide Chokecherry Stout. This beer was conceived as part of the Beers Made By Walking program, it's available exclusively today at Wynkoop Brewing in Denver, tapping at 5 pm. It'll be on tap at the Boulder taproom later on - don't fret! This brew has dandelion and milk thistle for bittering, echinacea and chokecherries for flavoring plus some homegrown hops. Weighs in at 7% ABV.

Wild Woods Brewery (Boulder) - They have extended hours for GABF week, open 2-9pm today thru Saturday. Also TODAY they are releasing a small batch of their Tropical Paradise Imperial IPA. Brewed with fresh ginger and tons of Citra and Amarillo hops, aged on fresh mangoes, 10% ABV. It won't last long. The Gin Barrel-Aged Treeline IPA and the Big Bonfire Anniversary ale are also on tap there all week, and today they are featuring their GABF Pro-Am English Mild (which will be served at the Thursday GABF session).

Twisted Pine Brewing (Boulder) - Today they will do an early pre-release of this year's Northstar Imperial Porter. They're only pouring 1 keg and then you'll have to wait until next month for the regular release.

CAUTION: Brewing Co (Denver) - Good news came today. They just got their construction permits at their Lakewood, CO location. Work will begin pronto!

Northern Colorado

Tap and Handle (Ft. Collins) - Today we are showcasing San Diego breweries. We will have different beers from Green Flash Brewing Co. at 5pm, including Barrel Aged Barley Wine, NZ Single Hop and Green Bullet. Come meet the brewers. At 7pm: they will have Stone Anniversary and Mixtape vol. 5. on. At 9pm: Marty from Mission Brewing will be in to show off his 32oz cans of Shipwrecked Imp. IPA along with Carrack and El Conquistador on draft.

Loveland Aleworks (Loveland) - Today there are not 1 but 2 special tappings. The first is an Oak-aged Imperial Stout. And the second is the 2013 Abbey Grand Cru. Here are the other brews on tap today: Tripel, Saison, IPA, Imperial Stout, Galaxy Single-Hop Pale Ale, English Pale Ale, Elaine's Coconut Porter, Belgo-Americo Pale Ale, American Sour with Raspberries, and if you hurry in, you just might get the last of the Mango Pale Ale and the Oak-Aged Coconut Porter!

The Mayor of Old Town (Ft. Collins) - Today's special pre-GABF event is a Meet the Brewer event featuring Brad from Funkwerks. Meet at greet at 6pm and then at 6:45pm there will be a special pairing of Funkwerks beers and Common Link's Chacuterie & Fromage plate. Also, tonight is the last night for you to enter to win 2 tickets to #GABF this Thursday night. Have a flight, get entered in the drawing. They will draw names at 11:15am Wednesday morning!

Black Bottle Brewery (Ft. Collins) - It's back! Their 1 million IBU 11.5% ABV "Just A Minor Threat" Imperial IPA. It usually doesn't last long so stop in and get some.

High Hops Brewery (Windsor) - Here's what's happening for GABF Week. Wednesday, Oct 9th - the release of Rooty Tooty Fresh Hop & Fruity - a small batch of wet hop ale using hops grown on site! Thursday October 10th brings another "Wet Hop Ale" release, a fresh hop ale made with glacier, cluster and chinook hops from their field. Friday October 11th is a Habanero Agave beer release at 5pm. Then on Saturday October 12th stop in for the release of "Dubbel Date", a Belgian-style Dubbel sweetened with dates. Plus food trucks on site Wednesday through Saturday and live music Thursday and Friday night.

Verboten Brewing (Loveland) - Hurry in and get some of the last of their "She's A Saint" bourbon barrel Imperial IPA. When that kicks, they'll tap their Bourbon Barrel Aged Kentucky Common. Then tomorrow, they will release their "Most Irregular" Pumpkin Porter. They will open early on Thursday and Friday at 1pm for the pre-GABF crowd.

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - Don't forget live music Thursday, Friday and Saturday night this week from 6-9pm each night. Featuring Jon Blackdog Ridnell (Thu), The Prairie Scholars (Fri), and Fiddleride (Sat). Plenty of beer on tap to listen with.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Today they are tapping "Once Upon a Time" a FlogenFlagenBier. This is a sour ale that was aged 9 months in barrels with Brett Brux Trois wild yeast and Lcatobacillus Delbruikii adding tart lactic acid intermingled with soft grainy Pilsner and Wheat malt flavors.

Wiley Roots Brewing Co (Greeley) - Their brewer/owner Kyle "Wiley" Carbaugh is turning the big "3-0" and the brewery will be throwing a 30th birthday celebration on Thursday, October 17th from 4pm to 9pm. The brewery will be offering $4 flagship pints, 80s music and dessert will be served. Stop by and wish Kyle a happy 30th birthday! Also, have your tried their new Imperial Pumpkin Ale yet? It recently tapped and will be featured in the taproom for October. Come get some!

Crabtree Brewing (Greeley) - Watch out for the Headless Horseman! It's coming very soon and should be arriving by tomorrow. It's a blend of their famous Chunkin Pumpkin Ale and their Oatmeal Stout. Arriving just in time for your pre-GABF and Fall growler fills!

Southern Front Range

Bristol Brewing (Colorado Springs) - Stop by to visit at GABF. They'll be pouring Laughing Lab, Bristol's Wit, Red Baron Octoberfest, Cheyenne Cañon Piñon Nut Brown Ale and Compass IPA.

Mountains and West

Dillon Dam Brewery (Dillon) - The Denver Art Museum is partnering with Dillon Dam Brewery to create a Passport to Paris-inspired brew. The beer will evoke the spirit of the fall blockbuster, Passport to Paris and the 300 years of French art showcased. They are taking name suggestions from fans on their Facebook page through Oct. 9. Then will post the top names for voting. Finally, they'll announce the winner on Oct. 30th and the new brew will be tapped at the Rackhouse Pub in Denver and the Dillon Dam Brewery in Dillon. Label Approvals (Colorado) - Despite the current government shutdown, somehow new beer labels got TTB approval during the last week. Must have just gotten in prior to shutdown. Here's some new beers coming soon you can look forward to:
- Avery Brewing - Eremita VI Barrel-Aged Sour Ale.
- Avery Brewing - Fall Day IPA.
- New Belgium - NOLA Swamp Grape Escape Ale.
- Asher Brewing - Green Bullet Organic India Pale Ale. (cans)
- Lone Tree Brewing - Hop Zombie Red IPA.
