Colorado Beer NewsToday is Veteran's Day - also known as Armistice Day. It's a day to honor veterans of our US armed forces. Our veterans sacrificed a lot to help us win and keep our freedom. Take some time out today to thank the veterans in your community for their service and efforts that help keep America safe and free. If you are a Vet in Colorado today's your day for getting a free beer at many local breweries! Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, November 11th, 2013. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Metro Denver

Prost Brewing (Denver) - Prost would like to thank all Veterans by offering them their first beer on the house today. Also, coming up on Monday, November 25th from 7pm to 10pm - Backgammon and Chess at Prost. Prost Brewing regularly creates refreshing, award winning German style beers, right in Denver near I-25. Join them to sample some of their beers while meeting other chess and backgammon enthusiasts and joining them for a game or more! There is a cost of $10 for this event for a small taster flight, information about the brews in the taster flight, and a brief tour of the brewery. Mu Brewery (Aurora) - The Aurora Sentinel reported last week that Mu Brewery has seen multiple delays in their construction of their new brewery. Originally targeted for a Fall 2013 opening, it looks now that the brewery won't open until February 2014. Nathan Flatland sites delays in the bidding processes with general contractors as a main cause. The brewery will be located in the busy Arts and Cultural District at 9735 E. Colfax Avenue.

Arvada Beer Company (Arvada) - If you are a veteran or active, bring in your ID and tell your server "Cary is buying me a beer", and he will buy you a beer. Thanks again for all of the sacrifice you gave for this country!

Renegade Brewing (Denver) - "Cans of Wrath" will take place this Saturday, November 16 from 1-5pm at the Renegade Publik House at 2043 S. University Blvd in Denver. The event will feature over 13 breweries and over 26 canned beers. Representatives from several breweries will be pouring and talking about their beer throughout the event. In addition to the release of Hammer & Sickle, some other special releases on Saturday include the new Black IPA by Santa Fe, a collaboration by Ska, DC Brau, and the Pietasters called Taster's Choice, and 32 ounce can of Shipwrecked Double IPA by Mission Brewery. Tickets are $40 in advance from Brown Paper Tickets or $45 at the door. The purchase of a ticket includes a full-size souvenir glass.

Crooked Stave Cellar ReserveCrooked Stave Artisan Beer Project (Denver) - News about their 2014 Cellar Reserve program. This year they decided not to do a free-for-all online sale because they do not want to take the risk of any "technical difficulties" that the craft beer world has become so prone to lately. In order to ensure a fair selection of 2014 Cellar Reserve members, they will be holding a 2014 Cellar Reserve Membership Lottery. You will have from 12:00pm MST Tuesday, November 5th to 12:00pm Tuesday, November 12th to register via EventBrite. At EventBrite, you will enter your first and last name, as well as your email address. Anyone registering his/her name MORE THAN ONCE will be removed from the lottery. All lottery winners will be randomly drawn and notified via email on November 14th. Lottery winners will have until 11:59pm MST on Monday, November 18th to purchase their Cellar Reserve Membership at All memberships purchased by lottery winners will be cross-referenced and must match the name and information of the lottery winner. Lottery winners located outside of Colorado will need to either designate a Trustee to pick up their allocations or he/she will be responsible for picking up Cellar Reserve allocations by March 1, 2015. They will not ship any beer! Furthermore, the 2014 Cellar Reserve will cost $350 (+tax).

Littlest Big Beer FestHops & Pie (Denver) - This month's Denver's Littlest Big Beer Fest at Hops & Pie will take place on Saturday, November 16th all day starting at 12 noon. This month's featured brewery is Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales from Delaware. There will be 12 DFH beers on tap including: Bitches Brew, 2010 World Wide Stout, Sixty-One (IPA), Chateau Jiahu, Rhizing Bines, Sah'Tea, American Beauty, Theobroma, Olde School Barleywine, Palo Santo, Raison D'Etre, and 2011 120 Minute IPA. Chef n Brew Festival (Denver) - The 2nd Annual Chef n Brew Festival is taking place this Thursday, November 14th at the EXDO Event Center in Denver! General Admission tickets are $49 in advance, $59 at the door- VIP tickets are $59 in advance, $69 at the door. Mention "Funkwerks" when you purchase your ticket and receive $5 off!

Royal Gorge Brewing Co (Canon City) - The brewery and restaurant will be re-opening on Mondays and Tuesdays starting November 12th.

BierWerks Brewery (Woodland Park) - BierWerks & Staff would like to thank all Military and Veterans for their service and sacrifices! Veterans, please come in today for a free Beer on them!

Trinity Brewing (Colorado Springs) - On Monday, Nov. 11th, Trinity will unveil a new menu release at noon. All active military personnel can come in and get a TRiNiTY beer on the house! Must show Military ID. Later this week on Saturday, November 16th, They will be tapping 10 guest beers over 10% ABV starting at noon.

Lofty Brewing Company (Colorado Springs) - If you drive past 2935 North Prospect Street at Suite 108 in Colorado Springs, you won't find a taproom, but that's where Matt and Nicole Tussey have opened their brewery at the beginning of this month. Their beers officially debuted November 2nd at the All Colorado Beer Festival: Colorado Chili Wheat and Zeb's American Red. For now, they don't plan on opening a taproom, but plan to distribute their beer to local pubs and restaurants around the area. Follow them on Facebook and look for their beer at upcoming festivals.

Bristol Brewing (Colorado Springs) - Join in on Thursday, November 21st at 5pm for the release of Old No. 23 Barley Wine! It's a 2010 winner of the Silver in the Barley Wine-style Ale category at the Great American Beer Festival. An annual Bristol tradition, Old No. 23 revives an English farmhouse brewery practice of making a complex ale to set aside for special occasions. Their version, while painstaking and time-consuming to brew, rewards the connoisseur with an ale that has the depth and complexity of a good brandy or single malt scotch. Massive quantities of malt and hops, a long aging time and limited availability make this a special ale worthy of its reputation.

Pagosa Brewing Co (Pagosa Springs) - Their 7-Year Anniversary Party is tonight. If you're in the area please join in. The Vintage Nipple Mountain Nip Tasting started at 11am this morning. They've crafted this year’s batch of their National Champion Nipple Mountain Nip for the season. Brewed in the style of a classic American Barleywine. This year’s NIP has been aging in cellars for months. Today there will offer trays of 6-year vintages (6 2oz pours). With a large snifter you can blend your own NIP!

Crazy Mountain Brewing Co (Edwards) - In honor of Veterans Day today, Crazy Mountain is offering a FREE pint to anyone who comes into the tasting room with a military ID (veteran or active duty). Subsequent beers are only $2 and you also get a FREE coozie to take home. They want to say thank you to the men and women who fight for our freedom and the freedom to brew some damn good beer.
