Colorado Beer NewsToday is Christmas Card Day. It's essentially a reminder that the big holiday is just over 2 weeks away and if you want everyone to receive your holiday card this year before the actual holiday then today might be a good day to get those cards and letters out in the mail. Granted, in today's society, holiday greetings can be sent electronically and can be received instantly. But, if you still are a bit traditional, snail mail is the old traditional holiday method of sending out holiday greetings. Get writing soon! Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, December 9th, 2013. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Metro Denver

Dry Dock Brewing (Aurora) - Besides having a lot of great beer on tap today, Dry Dock is also hosting another Wing Hut Power Hour from 6:00pm to 7:00pm today in the tap room. The Wing Hut will be in the house offering up 50 cent wings for an hour. At this price you can load up on wings and wash them down with your favorite Dry Dock brew.

Joyride Brewing Company (Edgewater) - Over the weekend, the brewers from the upcoming brewery Joyride Brewing Company took home a gold medal in the recent Bière de Rock homebrewing competition for their beer in the Belgian Dark Strong category. Look for this recipe to be among the beers that will eventually be on their tap wall when they open sometime in 2014 at 2501 Sheridan Boulevard in Edgewater, CO.

Grist Brewing Company (Highlands Ranch) - Starting this Thursday, December 12th and on many Thursdays to come, Grist Brewing will be hosting Firkin Thursday at 4:00pm. This week's firkin will be Rob's Sweet Cherry Kolsch. Thursdays just got more tasty. And don't forget about their American IPA that's tapping this Wednesday, December 11th at 5pm. Also, TODAY'S SPECIAL is $2 pours of their Niobrara Stout - all day until it's gone!

Hall Brewing Company (Parker) - Hall Brewing will be the focus of a Tap Takeover at the World of Beer (Belmar) this Friday, December 13th from 4pm to 10pm. World of Beer will have 6 Hall Brewing beers on tap including their: Helles, Pilsner, Saison, IPA, Stout and Holiday Ale (Deck the Hall). This is a great way to get to know the full spectrum of current Hall Brewing Beers. World of Beer is located at 7260 W. Alaska Drive in Lakewood, CO.

Boulder County

Lucky Pie (Louisville) - Starting this Thursday, December 12th, Lucky Pie will be hosting the "12 Beers of Christmas". Each day, they will tap a different Holiday ale for 12 days. Day 1 is Breckenridge Christmas Ale, Day 2 is Odell Isolation, Day 3 is Sierra Nevada Celebration, Day 4 is Bristol Christmas Ale, Day 5 is Upslope Christmas Ale, Day 6 is Boulevard Nutcracker, Day 7 is The Bruery 6 Geese a Laying, Day 8 is Avery Old Jubilation, Day 9 is Odyssey Beerwerks Don't Pout Stout, Day 10 is Ska Euphoria, Day 11 is Prost Doppelbock, and Day 12 is Ommegang Adoration. Something special each day leading up to Christmas.

Fate Brewing Co (Boulder) - The brewery announced today the release of their Winter Wit. It's a dark witbier spiced with tangerine peel, coriander and star anise. Sure to warm your heart.

Asher Brewing (Boulder) - Sorry, but Asher will be closed today for their staff holiday party.

Wild Woods Brewery (Boulder) - Here's a brew that will remind you of a cinnamon roll - their Cinnamon Roll Brown - a spiced, 8.5% ABV brown ale with a thick icing-like head. This brew will certainly warm you up from the inside.

Northern Colorado

Coopersmith's Pub & Brewing (Ft. Collins) - For the 8th consecutive year, a volunteer staff of CooperSmith’s employees and friends will team with Catholic Charities North to provide a wonderful Christmas dinner and dessert for at least 250 people in need. They are collecting items like socks and backpacks to donate to those in need, all items can be dropped off at Pubside. Check out their Happenings page on the website to find a complete list of items needed.

Odell Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Get your bike ready! This Wednesday, December 11th is Winter Bike to Work Day and Odell Brewing is having a taproom celebration just for the occasion. Ride your bike to Odell this Wednesday from 4-6pm and you'll receive a free pint, hear live music and have access to a free bink mechanic. They will also be hosting a raffle to benefit the Bike Library. Winner will receive an Odell Brewing Bike Jersey and a bicycle compliments of Brave New Wheel at 5:30pm.

Funkwerks (Ft. Collins) - Come help celebrate Funkwerks' 3rd Anniversary this Saturday, December 14th. They'll be serving up some FREE beer and also hosting a bike giveaway. From 12pm to 6pm receive a raffle ticket that enters you into the bik drawing with the purchase of a full glass of beer. At 1pm there will be a toast from their co-founders and the tapping of Bourbon Barrel Aged Quad. They are giving away the contents of the entire first keg. Join in for first come - first server free half glasses (one per person please) of Bourbon Barrel Aged Quad. Then at 6pm they will hold the raffle drawing for a custom built Funkwerks fixed gear bike from Big Shot Bikes of Fort Collins.

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - Did you know that on Mondays at City Star you get 1 free pint of beer with each 64oz growler fill up? Yes indeed. See, Mondays aren't so bad afterall.

Crow Hop Brewing (Loveland) - Here's a special for music lovers. If you attend the taproom during the live music session by Jason Vigil tomorrow, December 10th from 5-8pm, you'll be able to get $1 off refills while the music is playing. When you pay full price for your 1st beer, all subsequent fills are just a buck - but that's only when the music is playing. Some come thirsty. UPDATE: This event has now been postponed until Tuesday, December 17th, but you can still get $1 off refills.

New Belgium (Ft. Collins) - [PRESS RELEASE] The Spring 2014 release from New Belgium Brewing’s Hop Kitchen series will be a Rye IPA using rye grown in North Carolina and malted by Riverbend Malt House in Asheville. This is the first time that a beer made with North Carolina craft malt will be given this degree of national distribution. The forthcoming collaboration will feature a variety of rye that’s been grown in North Carolina since the Civil War. New Belgium and Riverbend began working together in May, with the development of a special beer exclusively for Asheville Beer Week – a Rye Saison using Riverbend’s Carolina Rye malt. Brewers were so pleased with the beer that they decided to use the Carolina Rye in their series of quarterly releases called Hop Kitchen. Since announcing plans to open a second brewery in Asheville, New Belgium has been an active participant in their new community, investing in bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and partnering with more than 10 regional non-profits, and colleagues in the brewing industry. This partnership with Riverbend is just one example. The Hop Kitchen Rye IPA will be released to select markets in March 2014.

Tap and Handle (Ft. Collins) - Stop in tonight for a special Pint Night with Upslope Brewing Company starting at 6:00pm. The first 48 people to order an Upslope brew will get a free Upslope pint glass to take home. Plus, a couple of other nice Upslope prizes will be given away as well.

Crabtree Brewing Co (Greeley) - It's Monday and that means $3 Pints all day long today! Stop in and say hello. The Treehouse Brewers Club (homebrewers) will also be hosting their annual Holiday Warmer homebrew competition on site tonight at 7pm. Visitors are welcome to sit in and join in the conversation.

Southern Front Range

Bristol Brewing Company (Colorado Springs) - There's going to be some fun for New Year's Eve this year at the Ivywild School complex where Bristol resides. In the gym, there will be a NYE Rock & Roll Show and dance party featuring Mike Clark & the Sugar Sounds with special guests Ark Life. Trinity Brewing Co (Colorado Springs) - This week at the brewery they are having a book signing and a beer release. On Thursday, December 12th, come say "hi" to author Emily Hutto and hear about her book "Colorado Top Brewers". The signing starts at 5:00pm. Then on Friday, December 13th, it's the release of Farmhouse Rusé at 5:00pm. This is a cold weather Saison inspired by a beer from their friends at Black Fox Brewing. It's a midnight black Belgian that weighs in at 9.2% ABV and has some spicy heat from chilies and a provocative dark chocolate bitterness. Plus, December 13th is also Ugly Sweater Night! Wear it in to the taproom.

Phantom Canyon Brewing Co (Colorado Springs) - This Friday, December 13th, Phantom Canyon is celebrating their 20th Anniversary all day long. Get Happy Hour prices the entire day. Plus they will be doing giveaways. Wear your ugliest holiday sweater for their Ugly Christmas Sweater Party this day too. Live music will start playing at 10:00pm.

Mountains and West

Copper Club Brewing Co (Fruita) - Tonight at the brewery starting at 5:00pm will be their Community Potluck. Bring a dish to share. Get $1 off beers from 4pm to 7pm. It's one way to make your Monday even better.

Tommyknocker Brewery (Idaho Springs) - Come help celebrate 20 years of Tommyknocker beers starting with the new year. On January 1st, 2014 they will release their Legend 2014 20thh Anniversary Olde Oaked Brown Ale. This is a big 10% ABV, 70 IBU beer brewed with Chinook, Nugget and Bravo hops.

Breckenridge Brew Pub (Breckenridge) - Don't forget - there will be a special release of their Imperial Express, a hoppy imperial red ale at the Winter Kickoff Party this Wednesday, December 11th. Get $2 drafts and participate in their raffle for prizes and more.

Carver Brewing Co (Durango) - A quick update: Today and Tomorrow, December 9-10, Carver Brewing will be closed in order to do some kitchen upgrades. They will be back open on Wednesday.

Silverton Brewery (formerly Silverton) - Don't count this brewery out just yet. They may have closed their doors in Silverton last year, but their Facebook page is showing signs of life again with photos of them brewing beer. No details yet, but could we be seeing more beer from this brewery real soon? They stated over a year ago that they planned to contract brew in the Denver area. Stay tuned.

Butcherknife Brewery (Steamboat Springs) - The brewery is finalizing work on their soon to open brewery. They should be completed with their work sometime in the next couple of months. The brewery will have a big 30-barrel brewing system and plan to produce around 100 barrels per month initially. They plan to distribute kegs around the community at many locations. In the meantime, you can sample some of their beer if you happen to be headed to the Big Beers Belgians & Barleywines festival in Vail in January.

Riff Raff Brewing Co (Pagosa Springs) - The brewery just got done installing a brand new geothermal heating system that taps the heat energy of the local hot springs to warm the brewery building. Indoor temperatures in the tap room stayed at a toasty 79 degrees even when it was 22 below zero outside this morning. They plan to also use geothermal energy to pre-heat the hot water they use in the brewing process soon as well.

Ska Brewing (Durango) - Spending the holidays near Silverton & Durango? Then plan to attend the Venture Snowboards & Ska Brewing's 9th Annual Season Kickoff Party at the Grand Imperial Hotel in Silverton, CO on Saturday, December 21st at 8:00pm. Once again Venture Snowboards and Ska Brewing join forces for the 9th Annual Season Kickoff Party! After riding the powder at Silverton Mountain all day stop by the Grand Imperial Hotel for the party of the year! Live music by the Crags and Farmington Hill! $6 door charge and lots of great prizes, including the much coveted limited edition Venture/Ska Snowboard. All proceeds benefit The Center for Snow and Avalanche Studies.
