Colorado Beer NewsToday is International Mountain Day. Celebrate the lifestyle that we Coloradoan's have known for a long time. Mountains! Go out and enjoy a mountain today. Climb, ski, hike, explore, snowboard, photograph, watch a sunset over them - anything to do with mountains today. Help to protect them for future generations to enjoy. How about drink a craft beer that was brewed with water that came from the mountains! That works too. What's your favorite mountain? Up here in Northern Colorado, nothing beats the view of Longs Peak on a clear day. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Wednesday, December 11th, 2013. Metro Denver

Dry Dock Brewing (Aurora) - Every Friday, Dry Dock hosts a firkin tapping at 3:00pm. This week they've come up with a Plum Dunkelweissen. Dark, wheaty, with a hint of plum - yum.

Our Mutual Friend Malt & Brew (Denver) - They've got something new in the Randall today. They can pour their Belgian Pale and infuse it with Blackberrys and Basil. Let the Randall turn your beer into something new. Plus, Pride of Philly Cheesesteaks will be outside once again to satisfy your hunger pangs.

Copper Kettle Brewing Company (Denver) - What the Fudge? Copper Kettle is tapping a special holiday firkin of Fudge Stout today at 3pm. It's got cocoa powder and chocolate fudge brewed into it. Sure to be a chocolate lovers delight.

Lowry Beer Garden (Denver) - What? Sit outside in the cold? Sure, why not? They've got their new fire pits going strong and will keep you nice an toasty along with your beer. And every Wednesday and Sunday from 6-8pm they'll be giving out S'mores to roast over the fire pits. S'mores, beer and fire pits - that'll keep ya warm.

Colorado Plus (Wheat Ridge) and Odyssey Beerwerks (Arvada) are planning to host a combined Beer Dinner tomorrow, December 12th at 6:30pm at Colorado Plus. This will be a 5-course meal, each course paired with a beer. Please see the Colorado Beer Dinner page for contact details.

Living The Dream Brewing Co (Littleton) - This upcoming brewery in the works is planning to open in Littleton by late February or early March, but in the meantime, there's a lot of work to be done to their new location. If you are handy with the tools and are interested in being a part of the brewery (did someone just mention super-elite taproom status?) then send them an email and let them know what you're interested in being involved with. Grist Brewing Co (Highlands Ranch) - Hop heads! Grist's American IPA will be tapped today at 5:00pm. Also, during Happy Hour, get a Kolsch or Hefe for $4 and $2 Stouts!

River North Brewing (Denver) - Here is a rundown of their upcoming holiday taproom closings. They will be closed at 5:30pm this Sunday December 15th for the Locals' Holiday Party. They will also close all day December 24th through the 26th. Normal hours on New Years Eve 3pm to 9pm. And they will be closed all day New Years Day. Happy Holidays!

Hogshead Brewery (Denver) - This Sunday, December 15th at 2pm, Hogshead Brewery will be tapping their 1st beer in their Beer From the Wood Series. It's their Gilpin Black Gold London Porter. This brew was aged for 3 months in an oak barrel and will be served from the barrel.

Boulder County

Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery (Boulder) - Stop by sporting your most festival holiday sweater and you'll get happy hour prices all day long on their selection of house beers. In honor of "Festive Sweater Wednesdays" they will also be tapping a firkin cask filled with their Annapurna Amber brewed with hibiscus flowers at the start of our 2pm-6pm happy hour. Pints will be on special price for $3.50 as well two other guest taps.

Boulder Beer Co (Boulder) - The brewery has put out a 4 minute video touting the Boulder beer scene, cyclocross nationals and their new beer The Heckler - coming out in 16oz cans. Check it out below or on YouTube.

Northern Colorado

Equinox Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Starting on Thursday, December 12th, Equinox will be celebrating the Twelve Days of Beer. Every day for the next 12 days, they will be releasing a different beer or tapping a different firkin. If you love variety, this is the place to be this month.

Black Bottle Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Are you planning to attend Black Bottle's 1st Year Anniversary Party this Saturday, December 14th? You should. Check out what's in store in their official press release issued today. Over 40 different BBB beers will be on tap.

Funkwerks (Ft. Collins) - This Saturday, December 14th Funkwerks will be releasing an experimental favorite, their Belgian-style Quad, this time aged in oak bourbon barrels! This beer will be available on draft and in bottles in the taproom as well as various bars, restaurants and liquor stores across Colorado, Nebraska, and Arizona. This beer weighs in at 11.5% ABV and was inspired by the Trappist breweries of Belgium, sat in oak bourbon barrels for 8 months to allow the unique flavors of oak and bourbon from the barrels to meld with their base beer. A spicy oak aroma leads to flavors of caramel and malt balanced by fruit notes from their house yeast strain. Hints of bourbon and a slight alcohol warmth lead to a dry finish that makes this the perfect beer to enjoy on a cold winter evening.

Patrick's Irish Pub (Greeley) - New beer tappings today! New Belgium's 1554, Victory Brewing's Prima Pils, Oskar Blues' One Nut Brown, and Foxbarrel Blackberry Pear Cider. And because 12.13.13 is just two days away, they have their Stone Enjoy By 12.13.13 IPA on special today for $3 off. Also, all hard ciders are $2 off every Wednesday. Stop in and stay for Open Mic Night tonight at 9pm. ALSO - get ready for the Yetis! On Friday, December 20th Patricks will have every Great Divide Yeti (imperial stout) on tap starting at 7pm. Stout lovers won't want to miss this tapping session.

Odell Runooff Red IPAOdell Brewing Co (Ft. Collins) - Say goodbye to their seasonal Red Ale. It's now been re-branded and is being re-introduced as Runoff Red IPA. It's the same great beer with a new look. This brew will be released every January. Look for it on shelves just after the 1st of the new year.

Buckhorn Brewers (Loveland) - Looks like Buckhorn Brewers will be closed for a month with one exception. Why? Here's their explanation: "Sorry guys, but the tasting room will be closed for the season. It seems we didn't have ALL of our ducks in a row, and we need to acquire a wholesale license to continue retail sales of pints and growlers. This should take about a month. We can still sell kegs to our commercial accounts, and will spend some of this time developing more pub contacts. Keep you posted. Also, we can't SELL beer, but we can GIVE beer away. Sooooo, we will be having a customer appreciation day before Christmas, and give beer to all our friends who've supported us this first year. I will post that date soon. Thanks again all, and to all a free flight! DC"

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Today Grimm Bros continue their Traveling Growler promotion today. Get $2 off all growler fills. Two weeks ago, Don Wells won a free pint with his growler from Brauerei Fischerstube located in Switzerland. Congrats. TODAY they celebrate Colorado Springs. If you have a growler from the Springs bring it in for a chance to win a free pint. Winners will be picked randomly.

Southern Front Range

Colorado Mountain Brewery (Colorado Springs) - If you're looking for a mid-week Happy Hour, then both locations of Colorado Mountain Brewery have got you covered today. They are hosting Happy Hour from 3-6pm today with food and drink specials.

Great Storm Brewing (Colorado Springs) - Stop in on Saturday, December 14th for Great Storm's Christmas Party all day starting at 11:00am. They will have several holiday brews on tap including: Thunderstroke Barleywine aged in whiskey barrels for 10 months, John Paul George Stingo (English Old Ale oaked and soured), Dirty Girl Dirty Chai Stout, and Wassail Ale, a Scottish wee heavy with apples and cinnamon. Not to mention some homemade Beernog! Live music that night from 7-9pm from Hohn Will.

Mountains and West

Broken Compass Brewing (Breckenridge) - This soon to open craft brewery in Breckenridge, Colorado will be hosting a pre-opening tasting at their brewery this weekend on Saturday, December 14th around 5pm. They will be offering tastes of all their flagship beers plus a few more for you to try. Beer, food and music provided by the brewery. Stop by at 68 Continental Court, Unit B12 in Breckenridge. Broken Compass Brewing plans to open in late January to early February 2014.

Butcherknife Brewing Company (Steamboat Springs) - Construction update for this week. Engineering plans for their steam piping are in hand and they may be welding as soon as next week. Plumbing and electrical are progressing, CO2 tanks are get installed next week, and the cold storage room is getting wrapped up.

Backcountry Brewery (Frisco) - Today, at 11am, Backcountry Brewery will be tapping a Trappist-style Dubbel. You'll find notes of cherry, raisin, and plum in this malty beer. The yeast strain they borrowed from a Trappist brewery provides a balancing, spicy finish. They believe even the Monks would be proud.
