Colorado Beer NewsToday is Elvis Presley's Birthday. The King of Rock and Roll would have been 79 years old today. He will always be remembered as one of the most popular and controversial music icons in America during his time. His music and moves changed the way America thought about rock-n-roll, pop, blues and gospel. When you enjoy a craft beer or hard cider today, give a toast to Elvis. May his legend ever live on. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Wednesday, January 8th, 2014. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Metro Denver

Parry's Pizza (4 Metro locations) - At their Highland's Ranch location, for the entire month of January, enjoy half off every beer* during happy hour Monday through Friday 3pm to 6pm. This offer does not apply to the designated Parry's Pints. This is a great chance to try some new beers you might not have tried. Pair that with a delicious Parry's pizza, wings or calzone! 50 craft beers on draft at Highlands Ranch and Greenwood Village and 40 craft beers on draft at Castle Rock.

Tommyknocker Brewery (Idaho Springs) - Have you tried their new release of Legend - Olde Oaked Brown Ale? It was made in honor of their 20th Anniversary and released this month. It's available up at the brewery and also sold around Colorado in 4-packs. It's a big beer that weighs in at 10% ABV and will be sure to help to give you a warm glow during these cold months.

Stem Ciders (Denver) - After two very successful soft openings, the team of Eric Foster and Philip Kao are gearing up for their Grand Opening Celebration of Stem Ciders this Friday from 3pm-11pm. They will be launching three new hard ciders at the Grand Opening: * Malice – Aged in stainless, Malice is a tart cider, fermented dry and clean to allow the apple flavor to dominate the palate. * Le ChĂȘne – Aged in red zinfandel barrels, Le ChĂȘne is smoky on the nose, showing a smooth, round mouth feel with an oak tannin finish. * Banjo – A cider aged in bourbon barrels with a smooth front end, a bourbon flavor and a sharp, sprightly finish. Plan to drop by at 2811 Walnut Street #150 in Denver, CO.

38 State Brewing Company (Littleton) - What an exciting day it was yesterday for the owners as they received not only their brewing equipment but also their building permits from Littleton which means their brewery buildout starts today! Look for more news on their progress towards opening very soon.

Lowdown Brewery + Kitchen (Denver) - More new brewery progress to report. The brewery just installed nine serving vessels, five fermenters, a hot liquor back, a mash tun and a kettle. Their mill and auger are dialed in and all electrical, gas and plumbing in brewery will be wrapped up by tomorrow. Thursday they expect to start brewing! Opening day can't be far off now - hopefully around January 28th.

Star Bar (Denver) - Today at Star Bar - Perennial Beer's head brewer Cory King will be in the house talking about his beer as Star Bar taps some special kegs of his beer. Cory brought along these brews: Aria (Belgian-style ale with Brettanomyces), Heart of Gold (Wheat Wine), Hereafter (Belgian Golden Ale w/pears and white sage), Fete de Noel (Belgian Strong Dark Ale), and finally, Abraxas (Imperial Stout with cocao nibs, ancho chiles, vanilla beans and cinnamon sticks). The beers start pouring at 6:00pm!

Black Shirt Brewing (Denver) - Announcing new Friday hours. BSB is now open at 2:00pm on Fridays. This should help lengthen your weekends by 3 hours now.

Yak & Yeti Brewpub (Arvada) - For 3 years, Yak & Yeti has run a collaboration effort with the KROC homebrewing club of NW Metro Denver. This effort allows some homebrewers to live the dream and have one of their beers professionally made and tapped at the brewpub. This year they had 45 submissions and 3 were chosen. This year's winning entries were: Rob Rodriguez - Thriller - imperial white stout, Dennis Henson - Jose Smyth - a chocolate agave porter aged on oak, and Gray Slater & Rob Rodriguez - Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout. They are currently in the process of developing recipes. Once the dates are set for brewing and release parties, they will announce them.

World of Beer (Cherry Creek) - Mark your calendars for Saturday, January 18th from 12pm to close. This will be World of Beer's first Sour Night. They will have over 20 sour beers on tap including some rare ones you won't want to miss. Tickets for this event are $50 per person (advance) or $60 at the door and include unlimited 4oz samplings of sour beer. World of Beer Cherry Creek is located at 660 South Colorado Boulevard in Glendale, CO. The following beers will be featured on draft with additional beers debuting day-of: Russian River Consecration, Russian River Temptation, Russian River Supplication, New Belgium La Folie, Green Flash Little Freak, Jolly Pumpkin Luciernaga, Bear Republic Tartare, Aspen Cougar, Elevation Engel Weiss, Cuvee de Jacobin's Rouge, The Bruery Oude Tart, The Bruery Rueuze, The Bruery Tart of Darkness, Odell Sour Mash, Wynkoop Brewjolais Nouveau, and Trinity 7 Day Sour.

Rockyard Brewing (Castle Rock) - This Friday, January 10th at 5:17pm in the pub, they will be tapping "Back 40" Brown Ale. This is an American Brown Ale with a rich malty flavor with a toasted, nutty finish. It will also be headed to liquor stores in 6 packs in about 3 weeks. It comes with a most unique label too.

Great Divide Brewing Co (Denver) - With the dawn of the new year comes a new India Pale Ale from Great Divide. You can now get their new Lasso IPA in 12oz 6-packs at your favorite store.

Cannonball Creek Brewing (Golden) - Today CCBC taps their Oatmeal Brown Ale! This English-style brown ale is brewed with premium British malt, hops, yeast, and plenty of flaked oats. This beer is a true session ale at only 4.5% ABV, and is pouring for the first time on a Nitro faucet. Burger Radio is here and the tasting room opens at 3:00pm.

Hops & Pie (Denver) - Don't forget. Today is their $2 Craft Can Night. Get any craft beer in a can for just 2 bucks from 5pm to close.

Black Shirt Brewing (Denver) - Cans of their Colorado Red Ale are coming off the canning line today and you can pick some up starting at 5:00pm sharp. Come thirsty and bring your vinyl - they'll spin em for ya.

Boulder County

West Flanders Brewing Co (Boulder) - Their Single Keg Series continues tomorrow with a tapping of "Sub-Conscious Coffee Stout". They infused their stout with coffee from Conscious Coffees of Boulder. There's just 1 keg and it taps at 5pm on Thursday.

CHUBurger (Longmont) - Their annual Beer-Off is on the way. Join in on Valentine's Day (Feb. 14th) for their Sour Ale Showdown that will include some wicked sweet desserts paired along with sour ales. You'll have a flight of 5 sour ales paired with unique desserts. More details at CHUBurger and coming soon.

Northern Colorado

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - Get ready for another night of Trivia in the taproom tonight at 7:30pm. Bring your friends and compete. The winning team will win $20 in beer. Also, heads up for their next potluck scheduled for Tuesday, January 28th at 6:30pm. The theme this month is Italian. Bring a dish to share and if you cook one with a City Star beer as one of the ingredients you'll receive a free beer!

Wiley Roots Brewing Co (Greeley) - Do you like dark beers? At Wiley Roots they LOVE dark beers and to show their love they are doing a Celebration of Dark Beer. Across the next five weeks they will feature five limited special release beers. January 15th: Russian Imperial Stout, January 23rd: Hazelnut Porter, January 31st: Vanilla Porter, February 8th, Bourbon Barrel Aged Porter, and February 12th: Merlot Barrel Aged Porter. Step into the dark and enjoy #darkbeer.

The Mayor of Old Town (Ft. Collins) - This Sunday, the Mayor is throwing a Bronco Playoff party. The owners are buying a ton of chicken wings just for the game. During the game, all Colorado beers will be $1.00 off and all beers from San Diego will be $1.00 more. If you're going to support Colorado better support them all the way! (Sorry Stone, Lost Abbey, Pizza Port and Green Flash fans). In other news, The Mayor of Old Town was just named one of America's 100 Best Beer Bars 2014 by Draft Magazine along with Tap and Handle, both of Fort Collins, CO. Grats!

The Fort Collins Brewery (Ft. Collins) - A new press release was issued today outlining the "Year of Growth" in 2013 for the brewery and tavern. The release showcases their progress and charity work and lays out plans for 2014 including a new Bomber Series and a new rooftop greenhouse and beer garden.

The Mainline - An Ale House (Ft. Collins) - Want the best of food and beer? How about a beer dinner at The Mainline in Fort Collins? They're planning a 5 course beer dinner featuring the beers of Odell Brewing Company on Tuesday, January 14th at 6pm. The cost is $55 per person. Reservations are required - call (970) 449-5601 to get a spot. Seats are limited so call early.

Echo Brewing Co (Frederick) - New beer alert! Today they are tapping their pale ale "Powder Run Pale". Stop in and give it a try and let them know what you think of it. It just might be your next favorite beer!

Mountains and West

Vail Ale House (Vail) - Heading up to Vail for Big Beers Fest? Stop by the Vail Ale House on Thursday night. Bonfire Brewing will be kicking off Big Beers Festival. They will be serving Pomegranate Wheat Sour, Scotch Ale Sour, Scotch Ale, Imperial Chocolate Plum Stout, and Vanilla Porter. Starting at 6pm.

Pug Ryan's Brewery (Dillon) - On your way up to Vail this weekend for Big Beers? Stop off first in Dillon and visit Pug Ryan's. They've got just a couple kegs left of their Belgium 2.5 beer left and it won't last long.

Crazy Mountain Brewing (Edwards) - While up in the Vail Valley this weekend, consider dropping by Crazy Mountain on Friday, January 10th to kick off their 4th Anniversary celebration. There will be FREE pint celebration toasts at 12 noon, 4pm and 6pm. There will also be a raffle at 9pm where you have a chance to win a semi-private party at Crazy Mountain. Live music will also be playing from 6-9pm featuring Leung and the Wreck. Big Beers attendees won't want to miss this!
