Colorado Beer NewsToday is Judgement Day. No, the world probably won't end today, but this is a day where you are encouraged to take a step back and evaluate yourself and try to address some of your previous transgressions. The goal of this day is to convince yourself to be a better person and try to set things right. If you feel you could be a better person, do something today that can start you down the path towards being that way. Who knows, it may not only make you feel better, but may also help the people around you. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, January 17th, 2014. Metro Denver

Winter Brew Fest (Denver) - The annual Winter Brew Fest in Denver is coming up next Friday! Tickets are still available for this two day event set for January 24th and 25th at 2027 West Lower Colfax Avenue. Both VIP and General Admission tickets available via Eventbrite. Dozens of local breweries and live music will be on hand. More details at

Rockyard Brewing Co (Castle Rock) - The first brew from their new 25 barrel brew house gets tapped tonight at 5:17pm. Stop in to try their New Memphis Gold: Chili is a medium bodied Golden Ale with a blend of 7 roasted chilies added. The perfect blend of chili aroma flavor and spice.

Hops & Pie (Denver) - There's some new beers just tapped at Hops & Pie just in time for your weekend. 11th Anniversary from Green Flash, Whiskey Barrel Aged Avarice from River North, Elevation's Oil Man, Widow Maker from City Star, New Belgium's La Folie, Hairy Eyeball from Lagunitas, Tommy Knocker's Legend & Avante Garde from The Lost Abbey. All are TAPPED now!

Arvada Beer Co (Denver) - The brewers found some more of the sour cherry. They have about a barrel of it left. They used Arvada red and black cherries in a Bourbon barrel with Lactobacillus for 11 months. Come on down and give this one a try. They think it will be around most of the weekend. 10 beers on tap. Happy Hour everyday open until 2 and 4 to 7, $1 off pints and snifters!

TRVE Brewing (Denver) - DECIBREW, their collaboration beer they did with Decibel magazine goes on tap tonight at 7:06pm. Come grab a pint of this burly Weizenbock (reportedly brewed under the sign of evil).

Dad & Dude's Breweria (Aurora) - Here's their Friday craft beer tap list: DANK IPA, Liquid Resume Pale Ale, Model Citizen Blonde, Muffin Top IPA, Sweet Sassy Molassy Brown Ale. Guest brews: Crisp Apple Cider Angry Orchard, Craft Lager Upslope, Laughing Lab Scottish Ale Bristol, Nitro Milk Stout Lefthand, and Cali-Belgique Belgian IPA Stone.

Our Mutual Friend Malt & Brew (Denver) - It's a good night to hang out on Larimer! OMF has Proletariat, Belgian Pale, IPA, Brown, Coffee Stout, Winter Warmer, Rauchbier, and Nitro IPA3 on tap. The Special will be parked out front, and next door at 7pm crema coffeehouse is showing Befriending: the work of Mike Scarano. The art is amazing and they highly recommend you check it out. Mention going to the show and get $1 off your pints.

Colorado Cider Company (Denver) - In honor of Peyton Manning's dry humor, when you visit their tasting room at Colorado Cider just say "Omaha!" and you'll get a dollar off a glass of Dry Glider cider this weekend.

Boulder County

West Flanders Brewing (Boulder) - After getting the attention from the NFL and a cease and desist letter from the league, West Flanders is being forced to change the name of their upcoming beer release from "Brett on the Broncos" to "Omaha! Omaha! Brett!". The beer's new description also states: "After Formal Complaint Championship Game Ale". Look for this brett blended trippel/golden ale on tap now at West Flanders.

Avery Brewing Co (Boulder) - Tickets went on sale today for the 2014 Boulder Strong Ale Fest set for February 28th and March 1st at Avery Brewing in Boulder, CO. The Saturday session is nearly sold out - better hurry before they are all snatched up. Tickets available at Eventbrite.

Longs Peak Pub & Taphouse (Longmont) - The Mountain Sun family of breweries and restaurants is about to get another location added and this time it's in Longmont. Longs Peak Pub & Taphouse is targeted to open at 600 Longs Peak Ave in Longmont, CO. They just received their liquor license from the Longmont Liquor Authority today. Construction on this location will begin very soon.

Upslope Brewing (Boulder) - Pucker up! Today's Firkin Friday is a Lemonhead Belgian Wit. This is a sweet and sour concoction that was tapped at 2pm at their Lee Hill tap room.

Echo Brewing (Frederick) - Stop in tonight for some great BBQ with GottaRubIt BBQ Co. (4:30pm-8:00pm). If you do venture out of "Tri-Town" head over to Old Chicago Longmont and take the "I Love Beer Mini Tour" featuring Echo's Mirror Image IPA and their famous Balefire Red. You can also find great Echo styles at Old Chicago Grant St. in Thornton, Chili's Grill & Bar on 120th in Westminster and The Niwot Tavern in Niwot.

Oskar Blues (Longmont) - Stop over to the Tasty Weasel taproom today. They've got a Barrel-aged version of Gubna, a sour cherry Chub, White Buffalo, and a Barrel-aged Ten Fidy on cask!

Northern Colorado

Wiley Roots Celebration of Dark BeerWiley Roots Brewing Co (Greeley) - The turnout for their 3 beer releases last Wednesday was huge. Now, Wiley Roots will be rolling out even more beers in the weeks to come as part of their "Celebration of Dark Beer". On Thursday, Jan. 23rd they'll tap a Hazelnut Porter. On Friday, Jan. 31st they'll tap a Vanilla Porter. Then in February, 2 more releases: Feb. 8th Bourbon Barrel Aged Porter, and finally on February 12th a Merlot Barrel Aged Porter. All tap times will be at 6:30pm. Embrace the Dark at Wiley Roots this winter!

Front Range Rally Beer Fest (Loveland) - Mark your calendars now for the annual Front Range Rally - a beer and food truck festival benefiting Food Bank for Larimer County. Last year was the inaugural year and this year should prove to be even bigger and better. The festival will once again be held on the ground of Food Bank for Larimer County in Loveland, CO. Stay tuned to updates on breweries and food truck who will be attending. This will be one of the first beer festivals of the summer season. Live music, dozens of breweries and loads of food from your favorite Northern Colorado food trucks. Follow them on Facebook. Fermentedly Challenged is once again a sponsor of the Front Range Rally.

Blown Spoke Hard Cider Co (Loveland) - The cidery has just tapped their Sweet Cherry Mead today. Stop in for a taste.

Big Beaver Brewing - Just down the hall (literally) from Blown Spoke is Big Beaver. Today is Free Beer Friday. Bust-A-Nut Brown Ale is pouring free (1st pint) for a very limited time this afternoon. Regulars should know the drill.

Verboten Brewing (Loveland) - The brewery is preparing for their 1st anniversary celebration coming up on February 1st. One of the beers they will be tapping during that time is a new collaboration beer they did with the guys from Gro├čen Bart Brewery. It's a Russian Imperial Stout called "I Must Break You". Southern Front Range

Trinity Brewing Co (Colorado Springs) - Pappy Legba will be released tonight @ 5pm! Pappy Legba, Cerise Saison Regal. As ‘Pappy Legba’ is the guardian to the crossroads, this special Belgian beer releases the first Friday of each New Year. Brewed with just a touch of flaked maize for a seductive and creamy texture, while the notable crimson red color screams fruit. Post fermentation this special Belgian is aged on a grip of pie cherries, lending it more of a Kriek profile rather than Saison. 13.0% ABV and Rare - so be there or miss out.

Mountains and West

Two Rascals Brewing (Montrose) - The brewery now has a new supply of logo stainless steel growlers. This supply is limited. Stop in soon to claim yours and get a fill up.
