Colorado Beer NewsToday is the Halfway Point of Winter. The first six weeks of winter are done, but another six still remain. And if you believe that little groundhog, it's going to be filled with six more weeks of cold, cold weather. Today is also a reminder that winning a pro sports championship is never easy as our beloved Broncos quickly found out yesterday. We'll just have to give it another try next year. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, February 3rd, 2014. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Metro Denver

Beer Bash (Westminster) - On Wednesday, February 19th from 7-9pm, there will be a 6-brewery Beer Bash hosted at Quaker Steak & Lube (restaurant) in Westminster, CO. Beers from Big Choice Brewing, Beer By Design Brewery, Odyssey Beerwerks, Westminster Brewing Co, Brewery Rickoli and Prost Brewing will all be available and will compete for your votes on best beers. The overall winning brewery will have their beers featured on tap at Quaker Steak & Lube for the next two months. Come hungry and thirsty.

Big Choice Brewing (Broomfield) - Get ready for some stout in a can. The brewery recently brewed up a big 30-barrel batch of their #42 Poblano Stout. They plan to put that batch into 12oz cans in early February and get those out to local store shelves. Big Choice will also be offering up more firkin beers in the coming months. Look for them to come out on a regular basis very soon. Have an idea for their firkin? Send it in to them and if they choose to make it they you'll get a 16oz pint glass and 1 int of your firkin FREE when released.

Rock Bottom Brewery (Denver) - Look for these new drink offerings coming up this month. On wednesday, February 12th at 6:00pm, they will release "Right B Cider", a hard cider fermented with a chardonnay yeast and was brewed with apples from Colorado's western slope. Free glass of Right B Cider until 6:30pm (21+ only). Then on Wednesday, February 26th, stop in for the return of Fire Chief Ale at 6pm. This beer kicks off a 4 week promotion that will feature events involving the Denver Fire Fighters and their charities. Free glass of Fire Chief Ale until 6:30pm that day. A portion of the proceeds of that beer will benefit the Denver Fire Fighters Burn Foundation.

Parry's Pizza (Highlands Ranch) - Tonight at Parry's in Highlands Ranch is Trivia Night. Plus, every Monday night is now Trivia Night in Highlands Ranch. There will be a live DJ, $10 large cheese pizzas and $3 craft beers (Parry's Pints). Come as a team or on your own and see what you know starting at 6:30pm.

Lone Tree Brewing Co (Lone Tree) - Time to shake off those Orange Blues. It's Growler Monday! Get $1 off 32oz fill, $3 off a 64oz fill, and $5 off a 128oz fill.

Dad & Dude's Breweria (Aurora) - Here's their "Day After" tap list to get you through the "letdown": Dank IPA, Mixed Berry Wheat, Model Citizen Blonde Ale, Diggity Dank Imperial IPA, Sleep When You're Dead Coffee Stout, Sweet Sassy Molassy Brown Ale, Toffee Porter! See - things aren't so bad after all.

Renegade Brewing Co (Denver) - It's MaxFund Monday! Today for every pint of Peasant Porter sold $1 will go towards MaxFund No-Kill Animal Shelter and Adoption Center. Stop in on Monday, February 24th from 5pm to 7pm to meet February's Pet of the Month - Olivia (the dog).

Boulder County

Avery Brewing Co (Boulder) - A reminder that coming up this Sunday, February 9th at 1pm at the Avery Taproom will be the next bottle release of their highly sought after "Uncle Jacob's Stout". The cost is $12 per 12oz bottle, cash only, and a limit of 1 case (24 bottles) per person. There will also be rare and exclusive beers on draft starting at 11am including: Khodynka, Tweak, 2012 Beast, Chewblacka, Bolder Weisse, Double Dry-Hopped Maharaja, and more! Then coming soon, the next in their Barrel-aged Sour Ale series - Opuntia (No. 18). This beer has a dose of prickly pears and was matured in tequila barrels for 9 months. Finally, this Friday, February 7th at 5pm they will be tapping their famous "Trogdor the Burninator" smoked doppelbock. This is a taproom only brew.

Mountain Sun Brewpub (Boulder) - Stout Month has begun and all this month, the Mountain Sun family of brewpubs and restaurants will have their taps taken over by beers from the dark side - STOUTS! Look for new stout tappings every week like Oatimus Prime Imperial Oatmeal Stout on Feb. 4th and Stoked Oak Stout on Feb. 11th, or Mutual Respect Imperial Coffee Stout on Feb 18th, and even a Bacon Milk Stout on Feb. 25th. Plus several guest stouts on tap. Get a preview on Monday nights at 8pm of each of those beers. They expect to have nearly 30 different stouts available at some point during the month and on tap at all 4 locations (Mountain Sun, Southern Sun, Vine Street Pub and Under The Sun).

Mobile Canning Systems (Longmont) - The company who brings a mobile canning line direct to breweries is celebrating a booming 2013 year with huge growth numbers. They started selling franchise affiliates in 2012 and by the end of 2013 they had 11 affiliates, each using canning lines made by Wild Goose Canning Technologies of Boulder, CO. Mobile Canning here in Colorado currently also has about 15 local breweries as customers and plans to and a 2nd mobile canning line here in Colorado by the end of this month. Oskar Blues (Longmont) - This Saturday, February 8th at 4pm marks the Tasty Weasel's 5th Anniversary - or as they call it a Weaselversary! Come celebrate 5 years in their home in Longmont at The Tasty Weasel! Kort McCumber plays live music at 4:30pm, then it's the Jack, Ken & Juice trio followed by the Strategic Beef Plan B: The Morning After. Plus they'll have specialty beers throughout the day including the debut of a specialty version of G'Knight we're callin' G'Afternoon.

Crystal Springs Brewing Co (Louisville) - Stop in today. Their "Little Big Stout Takeover" starts today with Black Saddle and it's children Black Saddle Bourbon Barrel Aged single casks #1, #2, #3, and #4. Their tap wall becomes our picture of the day.

Twelve Degree Brewing (Louisville) - They're starting up their Bluegrass Pick night next Monday, February 10th from 7:30pm - 9:30pm. Whether you're a musician or a listener, this will be a fun evening!

Northern Colorado

Verboten Brewing (Loveland) - Did you make it down for their 1st Anniversary celebration over the weekend? If not, they still have some of their special beers available this week. This week on Tuesday evening at 6:30pm, the Verboten Sisterhood, a ladies beer club will be meeting at Verboten to share some beer. Guest speaker for that night will be yours truly, Dave Butler of Fermentedly Challenged. I'll be talking about the ever-growing Colorado craft beer market and the love of craft beer we all share. All ladies are welcome to join in.

Scrumpy's Hard Cider Bar (Ft. Collins) - February's Flavor of the month is "The Sexy Hedgehog", a Chocolate Raspberry Cider! Give your Sweetie something sexy for Valentine's Day, a 1 Liter Growler! Several house and guest hard ciders always on tap.

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - City Star's Widow Maker (Russian Imperial Stout) is now back on tap. This is a big brew that weighs in at 11.25% ABV and fits the bill for Stout Month.

Patrick's Irish Pub (Greeley) - Bummed about the Big Game? Here's something that may help cheer you up. Patrick's is featuring Loveland Aleworks for their Keep the Glass promotion tonight. Starting at 7:00 pm, order their Imperial Stout or Coconut Porter and you'll get a free Aleworks pint glass to take home (while supplies last).

Black Bottle Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Every so often, Black Bottle reserves a group of their 40 taps for a tap takeover. Coming up this Thursday, February 6th, BBB will feature not beer, but MEAD! And specifically, the meads of Redstone Meadery of Boulder, CO. These meads will be on tap: Black Raspberry Nectar, Nectar of the Hops, and 2 braggots - Honey Saison, and Honey Blonde. Come see what a little fermented honey can do. The taps start at 5:30pm that day.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Come see if you can score more points than the Broncos did yesterday. Stop in tonight and play TRIVIA tonight at 7:00pm.

Wiley Roots Brewing Co (Greeley) - Wiley Roots' business hours are not always well known, so here's the latest update just so you know when they're open. Wednesday through Fridays 3pm to 11pm. Saturdays 2pm to 11pm, and Sunday's 2pm to 8pm. They are closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Stop in for a brew. Try their GABF medal winning Super 77 Wheat beer or one of their several other beers on tap.

Coopersmith's Pub & Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Their Horsetooth Stout aged in Feisty Spirirts Blue Corn Bourbon barrel now on tap Pubside today.

Southern Front Range

Pikes Peak Brewing Co (Monument) - The fame of Pikes Peak beers continues to grow. They are now distributing bottles, cans and kegs of their beer as far south as Pueblo and as far north as Stapleton Tap House in Denver and a growing number of places all in between. Plus, the brewery is announcing their new Craft Beer Society, their new mug club. Current BET members who have indicated that they are interested in joining the Craft Beer Society can sign up at the brewery on Sundays in February between 12-5pm, and on Mondays in February between 5-7pm. PPBC is also accepting a limited number of new members as well. Those interested in becoming a member must complete a New Member Application. Completed applications should be dropped off at PPBC by February 15 and applicants will be notified by March 1 if their application has been accepted. Trinity Brewing Co (Colorado Springs) - There will be a special Valentines Day tapping at Trinity on February 14th starting at 12pm. Stop in for a taste of "For the Love of Stouts" - a special stout release. Also, Bring your loved one or anyone you want to spend a yummy afternoon or evening and enjoy some special stouts during their Stout Month. Their stouts can be paired with an assortment of chocolate and cheeses available in their taproom.

Phantom Canyon (Colorado Springs) - New Beer Alert! Since the brewery expansion the boys in the brewhouse have been able to brew more lagers. They've done this one before but liked it so much they made another batch. Gold Camp Amber Lager - originally brewed at Cheyenne Mountain Brewing from 1996-1999 by their head-brewer. One of the truly American beer styles, this hearty lager is brewed as it was in the mining regions of the western gold rush. It possesses a deep amber color with malty flavors backed with firm hop bitterness, pleasant hop flavor and subtle aroma.

Mountains and West

7 Hermits Brewing Co (Eagle) - The grand opening had a great turnout over the weekend. They plan to further expand their menu and beer list in the coming months. They are open 7 days a week: Monday - Thursday 4pm - 10pm, Friday 4pm til close, Saturday & Sunday 12pm til close. Closing time varies based on how busy you keep them! They hope to add growler sales in a month or two as well.
