Colorado Beer NewsToday is Abe Lincoln's Birthday. One of our most famous Presidents of the United States was born on this day in 1809, exactly 205 years ago. While we normally don't celebrate this day until the 3rd Monday in February (President's Day), but we do honor the man for helping to end the US Civil War and his efforts for abolishing slavery in this country. Abe Lincoln wasn't known for ever drinking beer, except when ordered by a physician's advice to help him rebuild after a long bout with a cold. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Wednesday, February 12th, 2014. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Lone Tree Brewing (Lone Tree) - Their latest creation My Cherie Amour (chocolate cherry stout) is finally tapped! This beer has beautiful notes of chocolate and cherry and will help you remember what true love is, but don't wait long. This one won't last long. Big Choice Brewing (Broomfield) - What's in those big green cans? Why it's their #42 Poblano Stout. The canning line was busy today and now this brew has been put into cans. Look for it on local store shelves within a week or two.Also today, they are releasing a 10 gallon "Toy Box" Test Beer tonight - Nathaniel and Matt have brewed a Burton Ale - a popular 19th Century beer that has caramel candy notes and a tinge of bitterness at the finish! Dad & Dude's Breweria (Aurora) - What's on tap today? Odyssey Beerwerks (Arvada) - THeir regularly schedule release of Psycho Penguin on Nitro wasn't quite ready yet, so instead today they will be tapping their Nitro Scotch Ale at 5:00pm. Wild Woods Brewery (Boulder) - Expansion is happening at Wild Woods. THey are expecting to receive their new brew kettles & mash tun next week. This will allow them to brew even more beer than before. As for now, stop in and enjoy one of 9 beers on tap. [5460 Conestoga Ct., Boulder, CO]

Southern Sun Pub & Brewery (Boulder) - Stop in tonight at 10pm (yup 10pm) for Beards & Beers. They are breaking tradition this month to Join the Southern Sun Pub & Brewery and Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery in their First ever Mid Month Chop Gathering. February is Stout Month at the breweries, or Chops Month as some like to call it, and at the end of the month they hold their annual Chops Competition. The king of chops will be in attendance and will have free beer, food and be giving (while supplies last) "I heart Stout Month" pint glasses to the chops he deems as the best. The Event starts at 10pm. Facial hair is not necessary to have a good time or to join the Boulder Facial Hair Club, but they say throw the razors away! Come early for dinner. [627 S. Northern Colorado

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Set your sights on two upcoming beer releases. This Saturday, February 15th, Grimm Brothers will release "Once Upon A Time" a FlogenFlagenBier, an old historic German-style brew aged up to a year in barrels with a blend of wild yeast and souring bacteria. It taps at the opening at 12pm. Then coming up the next week on Saturday, February 22nd, Grimm Bros mark the return of "Iron John", a milk stout with delicious chocolate latte notes and hints of coffee with cream. New Belgium Brewing (Ft. Collins) - There's a new Lips of Faith beer coming your way on March 1st. Look for bomber bottles of "Gruit Ale" to hit store shelves. This beer is all about revisiting the ancient craft of bittering with herb mixtures, not hops. They used horehound, bog myrtle, yarrow, wormwood and elderflowers along with rich malts to create a bitter, dry, velvet-like sweetness worth revering. On the same day, New Belgium will also release "RyePA". This IPA is made with spicy rye with heaps of spicy hops. It's #5 in their Hop Kitchen series. They packed in 75 IBUs into this one. Verboten Brewing (Loveland) - Tonight - Happy Hour runs from 3pm to 6pm and then Name That Tune with Franklin Taggart starts from 6 to 8pm. Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Their Traveling Growler special continues to today. Take $2 off for growler sales for any beer they have on draft. Scrumpy's Hard Cider Bar (Ft. Collins) - Wednesday is Summit Cider buy one, get one day ALL DAY! Come in and enjoy some of their house made cider and bring a friend.
