Colorado Beer News 030314

Colorado Beer NewsToday is National Anthem Day. The Star-Spangled Banner officially became our nation's national anthem on this day back in 1931, 83 years ago. President Herbert Hoover signed a congressional resolution to officially make Francis Scott Key's song about a flag he saw flying during the Battle of Baltimore in 1814 at Fort McHenry. Since then, there have been some attempts to make the song "America the Beautiful" our anthem, but for now the Star-Spangled Banner will remain for the foreseeable future. Oh say can you see my beer? Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, March 3rd, 2014. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

European noble hops add a dryness and drinkability to the ale while balancing and supporting the complex malt undertones. Separating this ale from all Irish reds, Heather Tips bring you back to ancient and medieval brewing times. Bringing a little bit more of the isle into this ale they added a very small amount of sea salt and seaweed to the boil. (7.0% ABV) [1466 Garden of the Gods Rd, Colo. Springs, CO]

Steamworks Brewing Co (Durango) - [PRESS RELEASE] Steamworks Brewing Co., in partnership with Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort (DMR), will reprise its popular “Clam Bake,” on Friday, Mar. 14, 2014, 2-4 p.m. Proceeds will once again benefit La Plata County Search and Rescue (LPCSAR). The Clam Bake, now an annual Steamworks tradition at DMR, features slope-side service on “the beach” outside Purgy’s for skiers and riders: a fresh, hot bowl of “steamed” clams (including corn-on-the-cob and potatoes) plus a Steamworks brew for $7. As a special treat, Steamworks’ brewers prepared two Firkin Friday casks of the very popular “Irish Car Bomb.” One cask will be tapped on the traditional Firkin Friday, Mar. 7, but the second has been saved for tapping at the Clam Bake at 2 p.m. The Irish Car Bomb is named for the beer’s effect and not intended as a political statement. It has as its base Steamworks’ Backside Stout, which features complex malt and oat flavor. Its second fermentation is with Irish Cream and Jameson whiskey flavors, resulting in a very smooth brew.
