Colorado Beer NewsToday is Old New Year's Day. Even though the old Gregorian calendar was created back in 1582, many countries chose to ignore it for hundreds of years and instead used Annunciation Style dating which called March 25th New Years Day. Some people in parts of the world still celebrate the Old New Year today. Heck, why not! Sounds like a reason to celebrate with a craft beer! Metro Denver

Station 26 Brewing Co (Denver) - Check out their line-up of events for Colorado Craft Beer Week. Today they are releasing a Barrel Aged Hot Toddy Wheat Wine. This brew was aged in a bourbon barrel with lemons, cloves, cinnamon and star anise. On Wednesday, March 26th they'll tap a Creamsicle Kolsch, made with orange zest and juice plus vanilla beans. Then on Thursday, March 27th they'll tap two Cherry wood Smoked pins. One with grilled peaches and one with grilled pineapple plus ancho chile. On Friday, March 28th, stop in to try their Single hop Mosaic Pale Ale release. And finally on Saturday, they're tapping a Singe hop El Dorado Pale Ale. [7045 E 38th Ave, Denver, CO]

Copper Kettle Brewing Co (Denver) - March Madness "What The Firk?" Cask Month continues this Wednesday as Copper Kettle will tap a firkin of Imperial Red Saison. The firkin start flowing at 3:00pm. [1338 S Valentia St, Unit 100, Denver, CO]

2014 Denver International Beer Competition

Rockyard Brewing Co (Castle Rock) - This week's Jellyman's Deviation tapping is called "Sinister Squirrel", a Belgian-style Red Ale. This is a big beer weighing in at 8.3% ABV and reportedly has the taste of smooth dark fruit blended with nutty biscuit. Served to you in a tulip glass. [880 W Castleton Rd, Castle Rock, CO]

Freshcraft (Denver) - On Wednesday, March 26th, Freshcraft will be hosting a special Epic / Elevation collaboration tapping with 2 different beers from Epic Brewing in Denver (Escape to Colorado IPA and Big Bad Baptist Imperial Stout) and two beers from Elevation Beer Co (8 Second Kolsch, and Apis IV) along with a special collaboration beer they produced, a Blackberry Saison. Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project (Denver) - Tonight is the night Crooked Stave will tap their Nightmare on Brett, a dark sour ale aged in Leopold Brothers Maryland Rye Whiskey barrels. It weighs in at a scary 9.666% ABV. The beer taps at 6pm. Don't miss this one. [3350 Brighton Blvd, Denver, CO]

Odyssey Beerwerks (Arvada) - Today is Terrific Tuesday at Odyssey. They have a new beer release today: Cloudburst Dunkelweizen, it's Board Game night with Happy Hour pricing all night for gamers, it's also Growler Fill Night with a free beer ($5) with each growler fill. Plus they have the Rocky Mountain Slices food truck on site today. [5535 W 56th Ave, Suite 107, Arvada, CO]

Blue Spruce Brewing (Centennial) - Another brewery is about to open soon! Blue Spruce Brewing just received permission by the city to start brewing beer. They plan to open within the next few weeks now that they can start the brewing and fermentation processes. Stay tuned for official word on opening day. TRVE Brewing (Denver) - TRVE Brewing is expanding! They plan to develop a 5,000 square foot area at 2620 West 2nd Avenue into a brewing and barrel aging addition. This new location will be called "The Acid Temple" and will focus on wild and sour ales. This will not affect the current tasting room on Broadway, but you'll be able to have a beer at the new space as well. Their lease begins in May, so keep glued here for updates on when this 2nd place will open up. [227 Broadway #101, Denver, CO]

Trivia tonight from 9-11 w/ Shindig DJs LLC! House brews: DANK IPA, Drink 'Till She's Irish Red Ale, Leprechaun Golden Ale, Twist ' N Stout Dry Irish Stout, ( on Nitro) Ryot Rye Ale, Citrasmack Imperial IPA, and Fathom Amber Ale. Boulder County

Crystal Springs Brewing Co (Louisville) - In mid April the brewery will release the first of their "Original" series - a series of beers recreated from the beers the original Crystal Springs Brewing and Ice Company offered. Their first is Wuerzburger Beer, a Helles Bock made from Colorado malt from the Colorado Malting Company and locally grown hops from Niwot Hop Farm. The beer is currently lagering and will ideally be released on April 13th. They also created a new beer for spring tentatively named "Kühl". If you stop by and ask for the new spring beer, they'll know what you mean. Summertime Ale is back out and being delivered this week. They also have a Belgian style tripel on tap in the brewery named Naughty Marilyn, a tripel strongly resembles a strong golden ale (Marilyn is a golden ale) but is slightly darker (naughtier) and a little fuller bodied, with a soft malt character with a marriage of spicy, fruity and alcohol flavors. Very Nice Brewing Co (Nederland) - This Sunday, March 30th at 12 noon at the brewery, Very Nice Brewing is hosting a Cheese & Beer Pairing event. For $10, you'll receive 5 tasters and 5 cheeses. Wild Woods Brewery (Boulder) - Today on tap: FIG & FENNEL SAISON (8.4% ABV). This rustic yet elegant beer was brewed and conditioned with dried mission figs and fennel seed. Mild fruity sweetness mingles with subtle peppery and herbal notes. Brewed originally for The Catamounts romantic spring play, figs and fennel are both aphrodisiacs. This brew taps at 4pm! Upslope Brewing Co (Boulder) - Their Belgian Pale Ale Barrel Aged Fruit beers are ready for the Release Party tonight at the Lee Hill location. Come try their Belgian Pale Ale + raspberries, blackberries, cranberries, & blood oranges, plus Ferus Fluxus on tap! Beers flowin' all day with Burger Radio Food Truck joining at 5 pm! High Hops Brewery (Windsor) - This week's Wednesday Firkin is named "The Pinky Toe" and is a variation on their barleywine "The Footwarmer" that's been soured in a small batch barrel. It taps on Wednesday, March 26th at 5pm. [6461 Hwy 392, Windsor, CO]

Wild Cider (Firestone) - One of Colorado's own hard cider companies recently entered their hard ciders into the Great Lakes Cider Competition and the results are in. Wild Cider took multiple medals! A Silver medal for Wild Apple, and a Bronze medal for their Pineapple, Berry and Spiced Apple Pie hard ciders. Grats to Wild Cider on representing Colorado proud in their 1st ever competition! Broken Plow Brewery (Greeley) - Their new summer hours are now here. Broken Plow is now open 7 days a week. Trinity Brewing (Colorado Springs) - Get your tickets now for the upcoming Saison, Farmhouse Rendezvous 2014 to be held at Trinity Brewing on Tuesday, April 1st. Big B's Cider (Hotchkiss) - There's another Colorado hard cider company that took honors at the recent Great Lake Cider Competition. Big B's won a Silver medal for their Harvest Apple and a Bronze for their Bourbon Barrel Aged Pommeau. Congrats!

Kannah Creek Brewing Co (Grand Junction) - Today their new firkin of Salted Caramel Stout has been tapped. Perfect for this sunny Spring day.
