Your friends might just wonder if you've been reading a lot lately or wonder what you're up to. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, April 21st, 2014. The groundbreaking includes a private ceremony on May 1 and a public celebration on May 2. New Belgium’s brewery and Liquid Center (tasting room) location, an 18-acre site along the French Broad River in West Asheville, was designated as a brownfield site, having a history of uses that necessitated site clean-up prior to building. New Belgium worked with North Carolina’s brownfield program to invest in and remediate the site and improve the area. In February 2014, New Belgium announced that it secured an industrial location in Buncombe County in Enka/Candler, NC, to build its East Coast Distribution Center. The 100,000 SF Distribution Center will be built concurrently with the brewery and liquid center, and will be ready for occupancy by fall 2015. The distribution center will have room for a future 40,000 SF expansion. When complete, beer packaged in Asheville will leave the Distribution Center for distribution in the eastern U.S. [500 Linden St, Ft. Collins, CO]

The Fort Collins Brewery (Ft. Collins) - [PRESS RELEASE] FCB Bids Farewell to 1900 Amber. The Fort Collins Brewery, along with Gravity 1020 Modern Tavern has officially announced plans to retire their 1900 Amber Lager, ending its production by June, 2014. While FCB’s current headquarters was being built in 2009, 1900 Amber Lager was created and introduced to the full-time lineup as a way to remember their old location at 1900 Lincoln Ave. “We started out predominantly as a lager house at our old location and 1900 was originated to really symbolize where it all began,” said FCB’s General Manager, Tina Peters. The 1900 Amber Lager has a German Melanoiden and Munich malts blend with Willamette hops to create a bright, crisp and balanced brew. 1900 received a gold medal in the 2009 US Open Beer Championship (USOBC), a bronze medal in the 2011 USOBC and placed 2nd at the Craft Lager Festival in 2012. “We’re definitely sad to see it go, but as a craft brewery that strives to always better ourselves, we felt as a company it was more important to shift focus away from 1900 and to the present and the future direction of FCB,” said Peters. As far as what craft beer drinkers can expect to see in replacement of 1900, Fort Collins Brewery remains tight-lipped. “We’re continuing to expand and create new FCB brews and we’re excited to share that with the craft beer scene in the coming months,” said Peters.

Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant (six CO locations) - [PRESS RELEASE] The Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant, one of Colorado’s most iconic restaurant groups, is excited to roll out a new collaborative partnership with local breweries across the Front Range, offering craft beers made specifically for the Rio Grande from purveyors that operate in five of Rio’s local markets. The Rio will now elevate the beer drinking experience for its guests by taking a more local approach and working closely with local breweries to craft beers made in partnership with the Rio food and beverage team. “As a Colorado-based company, the Rio is committed to supporting local entrepreneurs who are making our state a mecca of craft beer,” said Rio Founder Pat McGaughran. Each of the six Rio locations will feature draft beers crafted in concert with a nearby local brewery. The Fort Collins Rio has officially launched the program and features a delicious Coopersmith’s brew: a Blood Orange Wheat called Rio Trigo that will be tapped today, April 21st. Both establishments are iconic, Old Town Fort Collins institutions with decades of history—the Rio opened in 1986, and Coopersmith’s followed soon after in 1989. The Fort Collins Rio also will be serving two acclaimed Odell Brewing Company taps including: Battalion - a tequila barrel aged imperial stout brewed with dark chocolate, cinnamon, and fresh house roasted poblanos and dried chipotles. And - The Sangre de chueco - a tequila barrel aged, imperial Vienna lager brewed with agave nectar, blood oranges and limes. Four other Rio markets — Greeley, Denver, Boulder and Lone Tree– will begin rolling out their collaborations over the next month and include partnerships with Wiley Roots, Renegade, Grimm Brothers, Sanitas Brewing, Fate Brewing Co. and Lone Tree Brewing Company.
