Colorado Beer NewsToday is International Workers' Memorial Day. Doing our jobs can often involve risk and sometimes it can lead to tragedy or illness. Today is a day to remember all who have lost their lives, or were hurt, disabled or made unwell doing the jobs they loved. Many jobs that society depends on are often unsafe and accidents unfortunately happen. Today is a day to pause and remember those workers who can no longer work due to the risks they take on. Raise a toast to them today when you drink a craft beer. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, April 28th, 2014. Prost Brewing Co (Denver) - You've probably seen some of Prost's growlers in local stores, but coming soon, you'll be able to buy 6-pack bottles of Prost beers as well! Breckenridge Brewery (Denver) - You know that Summer can't be too far off because Breck is releasing their seasonal SummerBright Ale starting now! This golden ale combines white wheat, two row pale and munich malt with the pacific northwest's most intriguing hops to create a bright, clean ale ideal for picnicking, evenings on the screen porch and enjoying the whims of the summer breeze. Dad & Dude's Breweria (Aurora) - Now that you survived the weekend and Monday too, stop in for Happy Hour Monday through Friday 3pm to 6pm and also weekends 1pm to 4pm for $3 draft of their brews. Current house brews include: DANK IPA, Les Quatre Saisons, Model Citizen Golden Ale, Cinna Chai Milk Stout, Norma Jean Belgian Dubbel, Walt Wit, Man!, Diggity Dank Imperial IPA, and Nitro Milk Stout.

Epic Brewing Co (Denver) - Today Epic Brewing in Denver and The Bruery of California got together and worked on a new collaboration beer called "Peche de Nuit" (translation: "Night Fishing"). The brewhouse was filled with aromas of cinnamon and ginger. Once that brew is ready they will announce a tapping date. [3001 Walnut St, Denver, CO]

The Cheeky Monk Belgian Beer Cafe (Denver) - As they say, "April Sours bring May Hop Flowers". Stop in and try their Mini Sour Fest offerings at their Colfax location. They are featuring Russian River Brewing Company Consecration, The Bruery Sour In the Rye, Elysian Brewing Black Bretty & Port Brewing / The Lost Abbey Red Poppy. Denver South Beer Fest (Denver) - [PRESS RELEASE] The 2nd Annual South Denver Beer Fest takes place outdoors at Clement Park in Littleton this weekend on May 3rd and 4th. The festival features over 70 Breweries, Cideries and Wineries from all over the world. Over 120 Craft Beers will be poured. VIP ticket holders will have access to a plethora of local distillers, limited release beers from select breweries, cheese and chocolate as well as entry 1 hour before the general public. Many new breweries including 4 Noses Brewing Co and Zephyr Brewing Co will debut at the event. Beautiful Clement Park will provide the backdrop to the festival with amazing mountain views just beyond Johnson Reservoir. The festival will also host a Beard/Mustache Competition with prizes for top entries on both days. This year’s event is presented by Littleton’s Tipsy’s Liquor World. Proceeds benefit Carpenters Cupboard Food Bank serving Wheat Ridge and First Descents who provides young adult cancer survivors with outdoor experiences designed to empower them from within. Festival attendees are encouraged to bring canned food items to the front gate in support of Carpenters Cupboard. Many don’t realize there is a huge daily demand for food in our local area that extends well beyond the holidays. Fate Brewing Co (Boulder) - This Saturday is the Kentucky Derby and in honor of that event, they will be hosting a Kentucky Derby celebration complete with a beer release of their Mint Julep Ale. Dress in your Kentucky Derby best as they will give away a free 64oz growler fill to the best dressed. Also - Got plans yet for Cinco de Mayo? If not, stop over on May 5th to Fate Brewing for two special beer tappings. The first is their Arta Tequila Barrel Aged Gose. The second beer release is a Mexican Dark Lager. Twisted Pine Brewing Co (Boulder) - This Sunday, Twisted Pine is celebrating Cinco de Cuartro (May 4th) and will host The Ultimate Ghost Face Challenge at 2pm. Contestants will compete to see who can finish off a ghost pepper pizza AND a bottle of Ghost Face Killer (chili ale) first. City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - Now that they have some new 15 bbl fermenters, it's going to take some long brewing days to do 4 x 3.5-barrel batches to fill those up. Gnarly Barley Brew Festival (Loveland) - This year's Gnarly Barley Brew Festival is scheduled for Saturday, August 2nd, 2014 at The Ranch during the Larimer County Fair, but tickets are going on sale officially May 5th. If you want to get tickets even sooner than that, they will be doing a pre-sale starting this Saturday, May 2nd at 10am through May 4th at midnight. Cruise 4 Brews (Loveland) - This Saturday, May 3rd starting at 11:30am, adults are encouraged to ride their bikes over to Loveland Aleworks for the first stop in a bicycle tour of several Loveland breweries. They will leave Loveland Aleworks around 12 noon and ride to Big Beaver Brewing, Grimm Brothers Brewhouse, Verboten Brewery, Crow Hop Brewing and ending back at Loveland Aleworks. Bring any kind of human-powered cycle. You might also want to bring along a designated driver to tow you and your bike should you end up having too much. The Mayor of Old Town (Ft. Collins) - Under the category of "Things to Look Forward To", their Beer Bettys group traveled to Windsor, CO to High Hops Brewery and brewed up a collaboration beer called "High Hopes". This will be a dry, dry hopped, Imperial Hefeweizen. Look for this brew to debut at both High Hops Brewery and The Mayor of Old Town sometime in May. Beer Bettys have the best fun don't they? Fossil Brewing Co (Colorado Springs) - This upcoming brewery plans to open sometime in May 2014. But until then, you can visit them and get a VIP tour during Colorado Springs Craft Week this week. Crooked Stave @ Rita's (Breckenridge) - The ski season may be over up at Breckenridge, but having a tap takeover from Crooked Stave should help ease the pain. Steamworks Brewing Co (Durango) - [PRESS RELEASE] Firkin Fridays continues at Steamworks Brewing Co. on Friday, May 2, 2014, with the introduction of a taste-tempting brew: “Wild Cherry.” The firkin cask will be tapped at 3 p.m. “The base for this beer is the unique beer style Berliner Weisse, which is a very light wheat ale,” said Steamworks Brew Master and Certified Cicerone® Ken Martin, explaining that the style features a “mouthfeel” that is light-bodied with a dry finish and no sensation of alcohol. “There’s also traditionally very high carbonation, and a clean lactic sourness dominates the flavor of a Berliner Weisse.” Steamworks’ Berliner Weisse topped the German-Style Sour Ale category at the 2012 World Beer Cup, earning the brew a gold award in the international judging. Considered a “sessionable” beer because of its lower ABV (alcohol by volume) of 3 to 4 percent, the style features a low hop profile. [801 E Second Ave, Durango, CO]
