Colorado Beer NewsToday is May Day. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Thursday, May 1st, 2014. It's May, it's May, the lusty month of May. Traditionally, May Day is celebrated by dancing around a May Pole and drinking Maibock's. If the wind is putting you off celebrating Springtime, you can always celebrate Batman Day, Global Love Day, Amtrak Day or National Bubba Day today as well. Metro Denver

TRVE Brewing (Denver) - Their Blackfox collaboration beer "CROSSOVER" will be available today in bottles at the taproom. This is a rustic Saison that was fermented in white wine barrels. Come check it out! [227 Broadway #101, Denver, CO]

Strange Craft Brewing Co (Denver) - It's another blustery Thursday AND a double tapping day! In celebration of spring and the start of May they are releasing a Maibock. This starts off the season of their series of occasional lagers (7% ABV 24 IBUs). Top off the day with a pint of their Firkin Thursday. They'll be tapping "Oaked 1000 Barrels" at 3 pm today. Aging on French Oak adds to the complexity of this Imperial IPA (8.25% ABV 90+ IBUs). Have dinner there at the brewery tonight with their newest truck, Chow Down. [1330 Zuni St, Unit M, Denver, CO]

Mountain Toad Brewing (Golden) - Happy May Day! Although they we don't have a Maypole, they do have a special Tadpole release today - a Biere de Mars! A Spring Golden Ale traditional to northern France made with French hops and northern European malts and yeast to offer a slightly sweet and floral flavor experience. Perfect for a sunny spring May Day! Also Quiero Arepas is back in the garden at 4pm today for Arepa Thursday! [900 Washington Ave, Golden, CO]

Former Future Brewing Co (Denver) - In honor of their quarter-year anniversary, the brewery will be tapping a White IPA to celebrate. Come ready for hops. 1290 S Broadway, Denver, CO]

Breckenridge Brewery (Denver) - Comic book fans! Breck Brew been hard at work developing a beer for Denver Comic Con 2014, and now they need your help to name it! Breck will take name submissions from now until midnight on Thursday. On Friday, they will start accepting votes. The voting period will end on Monday at midnight. They will announce the winning DCC Beer Name on Tuesday. If they choose your name, you will win BEER FOR A YEAR, 2 commemorative pint glasses, a limited edition tap handle, and more awesome Breck Brew swag! De Steeg Brewing (Denver) - Last night, the brewery tapped their new Oak Aged French Saison. They aged some of their French Saison in barrels for 4 months. It turned out smooth with a subtle oak nose. [4342 Tennyson St, Denver, CO]

Our Mutual Friend Malt & Brew (Denver) - Today at 4pm they tapped the second version of their American Wild Ale, made in collaboration with friends at The Populist. This golden ale was kettle soured & aged 3 months in red wine barrels with brettanomyces. It's refreshingly tart and citrusy, shifting to a funky horse blanket finish. DJ Scott Beck will spin 45s from 7 to close, and as always A Taste of the Philippines will be parked outside. [2810 Larimer St, Denver, CO]

Boulder County

Very Nice Brewing Co (Nederland) - Have you been up to Nederland lately? If not, stop up and visit the brewery. They currently have 7 beers on tap including: Steffie's Heffe, Very Nice Pale Ale, Royal We IPA, Monk's Phunk, Logical Fallacy, Grandfathered In Scottish Ale, and Petrichor ESB. Gravity Brewing (Louisville) - Gravity Brewing is proud to announce that they have battled to the finals of the Historians Ale House Battle of the Breweries! Throughout the months of March and April, Historians Ale House matched up local Colorado Craft Breweries to go head to head in a kick the keg competition. The tournament started with 16 local Colorado Craft Breweries. It is now down to 5 finalists, including Gravity Brewing! Please join Gravity Brewing this Saturday at noon at Historians Ale House in Denver to help kick the keg! They will be pouring Gravity Brewing's award winning Mendacious Belgian Golden Strong. The winning brewery will win the right to have their beer on tap at Historians Ale House for a full year! There will be plenty of giveaways (t-shirts, hats, etc.). Twelve Degree Brewing (Louisville) - Several new beer releases to report. On tap today is their beer DERVISH, a full batch Brett saison. It has an earthy aroma, some tartness and mild funk. This moderately sour farmhouse has a mellow acidity and an almost cherry pie-like quality. They also made a POMMY DERVISH, with pomegranates added. Also, back on tap today is their pear saison called PEARANORMAL. Then tomorrow, Friday May 2nd, they'll tap a quadrupel MIDNIGHT FOG at 3pm. Very limited batch. [820 Main St, Louisville, CO]

Fate Brewing (Boulder) - Today they are bringing back the Gose! It's a historic German sour wheat beer spiced with salt and coriander. It makes for a unique and delicious experience. On tap now! [1600 38th St, Boulder, CO]

Northern Colorado

Pateros Creek Brewing Co (Ft. Collins) - Today's Outlaw Tap is "Beer-o-pathy", a Nasturtium flower infused Kolsch. Also - This Friday, May 2nd at 6:00pm, stop in for the Feasting Fort Collins 5th Anniversary Food Truck Festival at the brewery. Join in a celebration of food, beer and Fort Collins fun. Activities for the kids too. Later on, comedy night for the adults. Tickets are $20 adults, $10 kids. Ticket price includes 1 meal from a truck, 1 beer (or soda/water), and a cupcake. Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Brewhouse expansion news. Recently, Grimm Bros added three new 30-barrel stainless steel fermenters to their brewhouse. With all of the new canning line production of Little Red Cap, they needed to beef up fermentation storage capacity. This addition essentially increased their production capacity by 37%. They bought their tanks from Premier Stainless of California. Also, don't forget that Brewery Bingo returns to Northern Colorado breweries from May 12th through the 18th. Stop in then to get your Bingo card and start getting it stamped at most NoCo breweries. [623 N Denver Ave, Loveland, CO]

Horse & Dragon Brewing Co (Ft. Collins) - Today is opening day at the new brewery! Their taplist looks extensive - up to 7 beers expected on tap including: Almost Summer Ale, H&D Stout, L3 IPA, Maracuya IPA, Whistle Stop Brown, Flagstone Copper Ale, and Sad panda Coffee Stout. Equinox Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Today's Thursday firkin is their "Fourth Anniversary IPA". It was dry hopped with Simcoe hops. Relax and try a glass while it lasts. [133 Remington St, Ft. Collins, CO]

Patrick's Irish Pub (Greeley) - Join in tomorrow night (Friday) at 7 pm for a Funkwerks mini tap takeover. Gina and Justin from Funkwerks will be giving out cool Funkwerks gear and talking about some of their awesome beers, including Deceit, which has won multiple awards including a recent Silver at the 2014 World Beer Cup. Today they have two select beers on special for Craft Thursday. Kwak is just $5 and Grimm Brothers Brewhouse Once Upon a Time is just $3.50. And the Irish Session starts around 7 pm. Trinity Brewing Co (Colorado Springs) - Don't forget, the first Saturday of every month is FiRKiN day at Trinity. This Saturday, May 3rd, the firkin will be tapped at 11:00am. Enjoy $3 pints until the firkin is kicked. Also, be aware that starting Monday, May 5th, their new Spring/Summer food menu will debut at noon. Every Monday is $1 off ALL Trinity bottles in their Case of the Monday Bottle Series. Tuesdays are Swine and Suds days. Buy a Trinity beer and get a free piece of bacon from 4:30pm to close. Revolution Brewing (Paonia) - Today they are celebrating 6 years of pouring beers in Paonia.
