Colorado Beer News 050914

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Lost Sock Memorial Day. We've all lost them. It's that sad realization when you fold laundry and discover a single unmatched sock. Maybe someday, someone will invent a way to prevent lost socks from happening or find out where they've been hiding. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, May 9th, 2014. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

This year’s version, Barrel Reserve 2014, will debut on Saturday, May 24th at 1pm in the River North taproom. Barrel Reserve 2014 blends three River North beers aged in a combination of sherry, wine and whiskey barrels. The result melds the malt sweetness of traditional Belgian styles with dry wine notes and a kiss of oak. “Barrel Reserve is our chance to play around with some exotic blends,” Head Brewer Matt Hess said. “It’s a chance to show off what we can do with some unorthodox, but delicious, barrel combinations.” River North will have Barrel Reserve 2014 on tap and in bottles throughout Memorial Day weekend. Bombers will cost $15 with a 4-bottle limit, with the remainder appearing on store shelves throughout Colorado the following week. They will also release a limited amount of Barrel Reserve 2013 on tap and in bottles, starting at 1pm Saturday the 24th. The brewery expects these to sell out quickly. [2401 Blake St #1, Denver, CO]

The Post Brewing Co (Lafayette) - [PRESS RELEASE] Big Red F Restaurant Group's The Post Brewing Company will pour the first of many pints of Bulky Oxen, an English-style barley wine created by The Post Brewmaster Bryan Selders and his long time friend Sam Calagione, founder and president of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery during the week of May 12th in celebration of Craft Beer Week. The collaboration is to be the second in the Brewing With Friends series in which Selders partners with brewmaster and homebrewing friends to create limited-release beers at The Post. Bulky Oxen, like all of The Post brews, is meant to be easy drinking and to pair well with GoodBird Kitchen’s elevated comfort food. Selder’s and Calagione’s collaboration brew was inspired by Executive Chef Brett Smith’s braised pork dish: pork shoulder braised in a roasted tomato & herb broth, finished in the wood oven and topped with onion bacon marmalade. This inspiring dish is one that both Selders and Calagione refer to as “life-changing”. The beer was actually brewed using Chef Brett’s marmalade—made with orange, lemon, and sweet onions—that is caramelized and smoked in the wood oven. [105 W Emma St, Lafayette, CO]
