Colorado Beer News 060514

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Festival of Popular Delusions Day. This nonsensical holiday began back in 1944 as it marked the day before D-Day when the Germans mistakenly thought that an invasion of Normandy couldn't happen due to bad weather. Since then, this day remains to remind us all that we should strive to re-align our own beliefs with facts and reality. Do you know someone who suffers from delusions because they are mis-informed? Today is the day to have a little chat with them and help set them straight. Just be sure to do it in a productive way. Chatting over a craft beer might help in this situation. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Thursday, June 5th, 2014. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Steamworks Brewing Co (Durango) - Just one day away from another rendition of their Firkin Friday! This Month it is coined the DAY WRECKER. It consists of a 50/50 blend of their Conductor Imperial IPA and their Elephant Rider Imperial IPA. Both very strong well hopped but distinctly different IPAs that seem to blend and age very well together. Ken also added about 1 gallon of actively fermenting Third Eye PA in order to facilitate the refermentation that needs to occur to create bubbles in the beer. So it’s all 3 of their favorite PA’s! This particular batch has been in a Breckenridge bourbon barrel since October 2013. Beside lending flavors of the whiskey this American oak barrel gives the beer notes of wood and a nice soft vanilla character. Thirsty fans should be there tomorrow at 3pm. [801 E 2nd Ave, Durango, CO]

Ska Brewing (Durango) - [PRESS RELEASE] Ska Brewing Co. announced Southern California Rollout. Ska Brewing Company is announcing the opening of its first new market in five years. The move into Southern California at the end of the month comes with the addition of a new high-speed canning line that has relieved capacity issues for the Southern Colorado brewery. “We've been considering the Southern California market for years. The bar is set high in here, but our beers fit right in with the quality of beers available, and the character of our brewery fits well with SoCal culture” said Ska President and former Ocean Beach resident, Dave Thibodeau. “Plus, I really needed a way to write off my travel expenses when a good swell rolls through.” North County San Diego will be the staging ground in the newest theatre on the war against mediocre beer. Ska is teaming up with California uber allies, Stone Brewing Co., through their distribution arm Stone Distributing Co., to mitigate on-ground operations. Ska’s arsenal is deep and will encompass nearly their entire award-winning portfolio including the flagship Modus Hoperandi India Pale Ale, gold medal winner at this year’s AmeriCAN Festival. There will also be a focus on Ska’s popular canned seasonal beers; Mexican Logger, Euphoria, and the Seasonal Stout Series. Ska has been distributing Stone’s beers in Southwestern Colorado since 2003, the year Ska first canned their beer. “It had always been our hope that Stone would do the same with Ska’s beers in California” says Thibodeau, indicating that capacity issues and strong growth in existing markets have hampered Ska’s efforts in the past. “We've been coming to the Stone Anniversary Celebration & Invitational Beer Fest for years, trying to set the stage but our old canning lines just couldn't keep up. Now the stage is set and the show is about to begin.” Starting June 30, Ska beer will be available throughout Southern California in all markets south of Santa Barbara. ###

Almanac Beer Co (San Francisco, CA) - [PRESS RELEASE] Almanac Beer Company is thrilled to announce it is beginning distribution as of mid-June to the great beer state of Colorado, starting with the Colorado Front Range! They will be partnering with the distribution arm of Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project to bring Almanac’s barrel-aged and fresh beers to the craft beer loving folks of Colorado. Over the last year at SF Beer Week and GABF, their mutual love and respect for wild yeasts and funk brought them together and made them fast friends. Almanac knew Crooked Stave would be the perfect distribution partner for bringing Almanac to the Mile High City, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, and everything in between! The first limited shipments will be hitting bottle shops, bars and restaurants mid-June in the Colorado Front Range. Almanac will be sending the latest releases from their barrel-aging program, including Farmer’s Reserve Blackberry—a sour blond ale aged in wine barrels with Swanton Berry Farm Blackberries, and Dogpatch Strawberry—a Flanders Red-inspired sour ale aged in wine barrels with coastal Santa Cruz strawberries. In addition, their latest fresh beers will be making the trip too, with kegs of Almanac IPA, Golden Gate Gose and Ichibier all headed east. They’ll then continue regular shipments of Almanac beer as new barrel-aged projects are released and ready to share.
