Colorado Beer NewsIt's Hump Day and it's time to start planning your upcoming weekend. There's plenty of new beer tappings, a brewery opening and a couple of beer festivals this week. Fermentedly Challenged has gathered some of the latest Colorado Beer News to help you get over the hump and well on your way to enjoying another weekend. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Wednesday, July 9th, 2014. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Cedar Creek Pub (Aurora) - There will be a unique East Denver/Aurora Breweries Tap Takeover happening the week of July 14th through July 19th at Cedar Creek Pub. Come taste a variety of beers from such breweries as: Coda Brewing, Station 26 Brewing, Comrade Brewing, Two22 Brew, Mu Brewery, Hall Brewing, CAUTION: Brewing, Elk Mountain Brewing, Copper Kettle Brewing and Dry Dock Brewing. For many of these beers, this will be the first time these beers will have ever been distributed. It's like getting a tour of all these breweries in one place. Wynkoop Brewing Co (Denver) - Beer and politics tend to mix at times and last night the Wynkoop was host to a visit from President Obama and Colorado Governor Hickenlooper. The President enjoyed a beer (a Rail Yard Ale) and played some pool upstairs. The Pres stated "That's some tasty beer". His visit blocked off a few roads last night and even caused Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project to be shutdown last night due to presidential road closures on Brighton Blvd. But, things should be back to normal today. Wonderland Brewing Co (Broomfield) - [Newsletter] Join in for the 1st Annual Brew and BBQ Day at Wonderland on Sunday, July 27th from 10am to 6pm. The First Annual Brew and BBQ Day at Wonderland Brewing Co. is an opportunity for homebrewers to mingle amongst their brewing equipment and brew up something WONDERFUL! Lone Tree Brewing Co (Lone Tree) - Today, their Summer Siesta Mexican Lager goes on tap. It's described as "dry, crisp and refreshing with just a touch of sweetness from flaked corn." Kokopelli Beer Co (Westminster) - A ribbon cutting ceremony 6 months after they opened? Yup! Today they are stretching out a hop vine (in place of a ribbon) to cut for their official ribbon cutting ceremony from the city. This happens at 4pm. Stop in and help them celebrate. Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project (Denver) - Mark your calendar for next week's Tap It Tuesday on July 15th at 6pm. This is when they will be tapping a specialty keg of "Nightmare on Brett Batch #2". This is a very limited batch so get to the taproom early to get a glass full. [3350 Brighton Blvd, Denver, CO]

Hops & Pie (Denver) - What's new on tap at Hops & Pie today? How about a Watermelon Hefe from Strange Craft or a Saison du Buff from Dogfish Head. Then there is Origins from Crooked Stave, and Yang from Evil Twin. All on tap and ready for you. [3920 Tennyson St, Denver, CO]

Living the Dream Brewing (Highlands Ranch) - This new brewery plans to open its doors for the first time this Saturday, July 12th at 2pm. This brewery features a 7-bbl brewhouse and a taproom big enough to fit about 60 people. They plan to open with 5 different beers on tap including: a Molasses Brown, Helluva Caucasian Stout (made with peanut butter), a Wit (made with New Zealand hops), a Pale Ale, and a Belgian-style Dubbel. All of these brews are fairly hefty falling between the 6.3% to 7.8% ABV category. The brewery will initially be open Fridays through Sundays as they start out and expand hour as their inventory builds. [12305 Dumont Way, Highlands Ranch, CO]

River North Brewery (Denver) - New spots in their 2014-2015 Locals' Club will be available Sunday, July 20th at 1pm on a 1st come, 1st served basis in the taproom. As always, last year’s Locals will have a chance to renew before new spots go on sale (check your emails, Locals – spam folder too!). We will keep the cap at 100, so we expect to have only a couple dozen spots for newcomers. We’ll announce the exact number shortly before the public sale. Membership includes: $1 off every beer you consume in the taproom for the entire year, exclusive stainless steel swing-top 32oz "Locals" growler, Mega-official keychain bottle opener (this is your membership card), a Locals-only holiday party, exclusive usage of Locals glassware in the taproom, and after-the-fact bottle release purchases. Boulder County

Front Range Brewing Co (Lafayette) - There's a new double small batch pair of releases today. Stop in and try their Gose (salted beer) and their Belgian IPA. Loyalty members get their first glass FREE of the IPA. [400 W South Boulder Rd, Suite 1650, Lafayette, CO]

Echo Brewing Co (Frederick) - Just in time for this hot day, Echo Brewing has tapped their Munich Helles and a Raspberry Wheat beer. Many have been waiting for these brews to return to the taps and now they are here! Cool off with a cool beer. [5969 Iris Pkwy, Frederick, CO]

Upslope Brewing Co (Boulder) - Happy Hump Day! Kick it up a notch today and try their Belgian Blackberry Strong (10% ABV)! It'll help tide you over til the weekend. Also, come celebrate Christmas in July. $1 from every glass of Christmas Ale sold will be donated to charity. Wild Woods Brewery (Boulder) - Stop in soon to get the last of their Tropical Paradise Imperial IPA while it lasts. They also have a Gin Barrel-aged Treeline IPA, their Sagebrush Wheat, and their Class 2 Summit IPA on tap. Odd13 Brewing (Lafayette) - Starting at 5pm today, they will tap a small batch of their "Conan the Red". And tomorrow, they will have two new beer tappings including a Cream Ale and a dark Baltic Porter. Come taste 1 or all soon. [301 E Simpson St, Lafayette, CO]

Oskar Blues (Longmont) - Been to The Tasty Weasel taproom lately? They've got a great selection of specialty brews on tap including: Nitro Dales pale Ale, Nitro Full Pint (strong ale), One Nut Brown, Death By Coconut (Irish porter), Good Game Belgian Quad, Vienna Lager, and also the return of Freedom Tickler Saison. City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - Award winning brewery City Star Brewing will be pouring beers and hosting both the Oskar Blues Bonewagon from 6-9pm and Live Trivia at 7:30pm with Ian Phillips. Come join in tonight. [321 Mountain Ave, Berthoud, CO]

New Belgium Brewing (Ft. Collins) - [PRESS RELEASE] New Belgium Brewing's National Clops Beer & Film Tour to stop in Boulder this Friday, July 11. New Belgium Brewing is bringing its beer-toting, film-traveling, nonprofit-benefiting show to your backyard. The nationwide tour is coming to Boulder on Friday, July 11 8pm to 11pm on the Twenty Ninth Street Mall. Clips offers a venue where guests can try New Belgium’s most esoteric offerings while watching short films created by New Belgium fans. Up to 17 beer varieties will be on tap, including selections from the Lips of Faith series and some brewery classics. The best part is that 100 percent of beer sale proceeds on Friday night will go to local nonprofit, Community Cycles. Admission is FREE. A 3oz sample is $1.25 or a 12oz beer is $5.00. BYO food (not alcohol). Bring your low chairs or blankets. Families welcome. Dogs OK if on a leash and under control by the owners side.

Loveland Loves BBQ, Bands and Brews (Loveland) - There's going to be a great line up of food, beer and music this weekend July 11-12 in Downtown Loveland, CO for this annual event. Cool down with some great local brews and margaritas! More info at

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - NEW BEER ALERT: Grimm Bros will be releasing "Weiz Folks", a unique style that they call a Schwarz-Weizen (or black hefeweizen). It will be a dark beer, but brewed with weizen yeast. This beer is a collaboration beer made with the Weiz Guys Homebrewing Club of Loveland. The brew releases on Friday July 12th at noon. Zwei BrĂ¼der Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Progress is being made on getting this new soon to open brewery ready to go. Today they have begun brewing. That means the first beers will be ready in about two weeks or so. Stand by for word on when this brewery will hold it's first opening. [4612 S Mason St, Ft. Collins, CO]

Verboten Brewing (Loveland) - Today they are tapping "Stand Up Philosopher", a double IPA Citra bomb! This imperial IPA is 8.8% ABV with 100 IBUs, all Citra hops - including a dry hop with Citra 3 times! All you hop heads come and get a glass! The Fort Collins Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Congrats to FCB for winning two bronze medals this last week at the 2014 U.S. Open Beer Championship, held in Atlanta, GA. Their winning brews were: Wallace Wee Heavy (Strong Scottish Ale category) and also their Smoked Marzen (Smoked/Rauch beer category). Breweries from the U.S., as well as Iceland, Australia, Canada, Belgium, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Sweden, Finland and England competed in this year’s U.S. Open Beer Championship (USOBC). More than 3,000 beers representing 81 different categories were sent in and blind tasted before choosing the winners from each category. [1020 E Lincoln Ave, Ft. Collins, CO]

Pateros Creek Brewing Co (Ft. Collins) - Today at 5pm, Pateros Creek will tap a limited release IPA called "Sky.PA", a wine inspired IPA aged on wine oak. Free taster between 5pm and 5:15pm. Also - Need a good laugh? Or perhaps you like making others laugh. The brewery is hosting Open Mic Comedy Night tonight and every Wednesday this summer. Sign-up to perform at 6:30pm. Broken Plow Brewery (Greeley) - This small brewery opened on New Year's Eve, but is now planning to host their official Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Friday, July 18th at 3:30pm. That night you can enjoy delicious food from Elements Wood Fired Oven and choose from 10 different beers on tap. Their Singer Songwriter Series continues with Travis Houle that night at 7:00pm. Black Bottle Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Some things take a while to get ready, and in this case, Black Bottle Brewery plans to have a bottle release in early August for their American Graffiti American Sour, a brew aged in Scotch barrels. Southern Front Range

Bristol Brewing Co (Colorado Springs) - Finally - an excuse for the breakfast pairing you've always wanted! Bristol Brewing is opening early for Brunch at the Brewery this Sunday from 10:30am - 12:00pm with a Wit pairing from The Old School Bakery! [1604 S Cascade Ave, Colo. Springs, CO]

Ute Pass Brewing Co (Woodland Park) - Last last week, Ute Pass Brewing received their City of Woodland park Brew Pub License. They've already received their Federal Brewer's Notice and are now waiting on the State of Colorado for their approvals. With any luck it won't be long until all of the final approvals and permits are in. Soon this restaurant will be able to start making their own beer! The buildout on the brewhouse also continues and equipment keeps arriving. Stay tuned for news on a first brew and tapping. [209 E Midland Ave, Woodland Park, CO]

Paradox Beer Co (Woodland Park) - Although they are closed Mondays through Wednesdays, they now have new business hours. Thursdays 4pm to 8pm, Fridays 3pm to 9pm, Saturdays 12pm to 9pm and Sundays 12pm to 6pm. Stop in this weekend. [106 E Village Terrace Suite 100, Woodland Park, CO]

Mountains and West

Butcherknife Brewing Co (Steamboat Springs) - This brand new brewery is already getting busy with festivals. In addition to having tap room hours this week (today through Sunday starting at noon each day), they will also be pouring beers at the Steamboat Springs Art in the Park, the Rout County RedneX Games in Hayden, and pouring at the Colorado Brewers Rendezvous in Salida this weekend.
