Colorado Beer News 071114

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Convenience Store Day. It was on this day back in 1927 that the first 7-11 opened, and ever since America has been getting gas, drinks and snacks quickly on the go. Don't forget, many 7-11s are offering a free Slurpee today in honor of this day. Unfortunately (or is that fortunately) you can't buy anything but 3.2 beer at Colorado convenience stores, so be sure to stop at your local liquor store to stock up on craft beer for the weekend. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, July 11th, 2014. If you aren't reading this article on FermentedlyChallenged.com, you don't know what you're missing.

Sanitas Brewing Co (Boulder) - [PRESS RELEASE] In their first ten months of operation, Sanitas Brewing Company has made everything from Saisons and English Mild Ales to Espresso Stouts and Sour Ales. But for the first time, the brewers at Sanitas are set to release an American IPA. “From the beginning we committed to Sanitas Black IPA as our flagship spin on the India Pale Ale,” explains co-founder Zach Nichols, “but our entire staff has been craving a super hoppy American IPA for a while, so we spent a few months working on the recipe for General Admission IPA and have been counting down the days until we can finally enjoy a pint of it.” Coined "General Admission IPA" in reference to the brewery’s inaugural music festival, Sanitas Fest, which will take place at their property on July 26th, Sanitas’ foray into the IPA exudes massive amounts of fruity, punchy hop aroma. Nearly 4 pounds of hops per barrel, a huge amount by most standards, contributes overtones of pink grapefruit, passion fruit, and fresh pine to the flavor. A special hopping method in which the vast majority of hops are added in the last 10 minutes of the boil insures a pronounced bitterness and over-the-top aroma to the 7.7% ABV IPA. A unique dry hop blend of varieties from around the world rounds out a vibrant IPA experience. Sanitas Brewing Co. tapped General Admission IPA on Thursday, July 10th in their Tap Room. Limited kegs will make it to premier beer bars in the Boulder area. [3550 Frontier Ave, Suite A, Boulder, CO]

Commencing at Avery Brewing Co. in Boulder, CO and culminating at Ska Brewing Co. in Durango, the annual Tour De BoulDurango is a five day, 426 mile road bike ride through some of Colorado’s steepest and most grueling road terrain. This year’s venture features riders from Avery, Ska, Boulder Beer, Left Hand, Oskar Blues, and Great Divide breweries. Out of the gate the tour will call for a 109 mile ride through Golden and over Loveland Pass before descending onto Breckenridge Brewery. As day one concludes it is likely the riders will reflect on all of the pedaling still to come. “As busy as we all are, I think it’s good to get out in the Colorado hills with some of the state’s brewing pioneers and share a few ideas, as well as a few beers,” says Adam Avery of Avery Brewing Co. “Collectively, we have hundreds of years of brewing experience amongst us—good ideas are bound to take root at some point before delirium takes over toward the end of the week” Friday will mark the final stage of the ride from Ouray, over three mountain passes, and into Durango. The cycling brewers are scheduled to arrive at Ska Brewing Co. at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25th. The ride culminates with Finish Fest, a finish line celebration featuring beers from all of the participating brewers as well as the collaboration brew, Wheelsucker Wheat. “This year we are really trying to encourage interaction and community involvement statewide” says Dave Thibodeau, President and Co-Founder of Ska Brewing Company, “Whether that means joining the riders for a beer at the end-of-day watering holes or helping us rustle up some coin for Bicycle Colorado. We have some new toys this year that will make it easy for all the pedal heads and beer drinkers to join in.” The brewers will be using Insta-Mapper GPS tracking software making it possible for anyone, anywhere along the route to join the riders, cheer them on, or see when it’s time to head to the pub.
