Colorado Beer News 072114

Colorado Beer NewsFermentedly Challenged is back from vacation! During the next few days we'll get caught up once again on what's been happening in the brewing world here in the craft brew state of Colorado. Today is the 45th Anniversary of the First Man to walk on the moon. The Apollo 11 mission landed on the moon on July 20th, 1969 and on the next day Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon. Here in 2014, it's been a very long time since man has returned to the moon. Back in 1969, they thought that by 2014, trips to the moon would be routine and there would be a permanent base established. Well, times changed quickly and man hasn't been back for over 42 years. Perhaps one day we will. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, July 21st, 2014. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

River North Brewery (Denver) - [PRESS RELEASE] Nowadays any brewery worth their malt experiments with barrel-aged beers. Grand Unified Theory, an imperial witbier aged in Boulevardier cocktail barrels, will debut Saturday, July 26th at 1pm in the River North taproom. “We jumped at the chance to get these barrels,” Head Brewer Matt Hess said. “I try to push flavor boundaries with our barrel-aged brews, and cocktail-aging is the next step in redefining what beer can taste like.” Straight bourbon whiskey, sweet vermouth and bitter orange liqueur lend Grand Unified Theory a spicy citrus note that is the perfect complement to its robust wheat backbone. The result is a unique and unforgettable brew unlike anything you've tasted before. Both bottles and draft pours will be available at the July 26th release party. Bombers will cost $15 with a 3-bottle limit. More will arrive on store shelves throughout Colorado following the release. River North has two other cocktail-aged brews in the works. Brian O'Connell, owner and founder of both Renegade Brewing Company and Renegade Publik House, has decided to hand over the location on University and Evans to focus more on the growth and expansion of the 3-year-old brewing company. Renegade Brewing Company recently started an expansion project that will offer the brewery five times the production space of their original 9th and Santa Fe location. This expansion will allow the brewery to can two more year-round beers and offer more seasonal cans. At the same time the demands of expansion grew, an offer to purchase the Publik House was brought to the attention of O'Connell. "As much as I have loved starting the Publik House and seeing it grow into a new community of craft beer in the DU neighborhood, I knew this was an opportunity to focus more on what Renegade does best, brewing beer," says O'Connell. The last day of business for the Renegade Publik House will be Tuesday, July 29. The new owners will take over on August 1st. While the space with improvements will be sold, the location will not be under the name, Renegade Publik House.
