Colorado Beer News 090814

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Pardon Day. Back on this date 40 years ago in 1974, President Gerald Ford pardoned President Nixon of any wrong doing related to the Watergate scandal. Whether that was a bad thing or not, pardons are occasionally used when dealing with sticky situations. So if you just happen to be in a forgiving mood, why not pardon someone you know and let bygones be bygones. You can always ease your conscience with a craft beer later on. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, September 8th, 2014. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Funkwerks (Ft. Collins) - Upcoming September Beer Releases: On Saturday September 13th, Funkwerks will release "Oud Bruin", a Belgian Style Sour Ale. The Funkwerks sour beer program was launched in early 2012 to produce traditional beers of the Flemish region of Belgium. The Oud Bruin that sits before you is a blend of one and two year old beers from a variety of oak barrels. Pouring with a deep auburn hue, this beer exhibits aromas of black cherry, raisin, and dark chocolate. Long, slow fermentation with a blend of Brettanomyces, Lactobacillus and other sour cultures contribute the characteristic tart flavor profile of this style. Enjoy this wonderfully complex beer that has been years in the making. Then on Saturday, September 20th, Funkwerks will release "Nelson Sauvin", a single hopped Saison. Named after the unique New Zealand hop that has distinct white wine characteristics, this single-hop Saison has a subtle aroma of gooseberries, honeydew melon and a hintof spiciness from our house Saison yeast strain. Bright fruit characteristics carry through from the late hop additions into the flavor but with a restrained bitterness. The addition of Muscat grape juice at the end of the boil plays into the fruity aromas from the hops and contributes to the crisp, dry finish. This intriguing Saison blurs the line between wine and beer. [1900 E Lincoln Ave, Ft. Collins, CO]
