Colorado Beer NewsToday is GABF Recuperation Day. Like thousands of others today, it is a day to try to get things back together after a long, fun (but exhausting) week at the Great American Beer Festival. But the Colorado beer train never stops rolling. It may be Monday, but there's more beer to make and a lot more news coming out for this week. Hope your weekend was a fun one. Now let's move ahead! Metro Denver

Great American Beer Festival (Denver) - Over 55,000 people enjoyed the 33rd annual GABF over the weekend. There were 268 Medals given out in 90 beer categories from the 5,500 beers judged this year. Locally, 34 different Colorado breweries collected 39 of those medals including 11 Bronze, 18 Silver, and 10 Gold. This number is down slightly from the 46 medals won in 2013, but the competition was even bigger and tougher this year with over 5,500 beers entered from 1309 different breweries. There were 52 first time medal winners this year also. Also, a homebrewer/brewery from Colorado (Daniel Christensen and Kokopelli Beer Co) took a silver medal in the Pro-AM beer competition. Plus, AC Golden Brewing Company and their brewing team (Golden, CO) took home the "Large Brewery of the Year" award. Congrats to all the winners! Denver Bacon and Beer Festival (Denver) - The Denver Bacon and Beer Festival is coming back for Year 3! On Sunday, November 16th from 2:30pm to 5:00pm at The Curtis Hotel in Denver. @eatboston and Denver Off The Wagon will once again bring together area restaurants and breweries to offer creative bacon-based dishes and fine brews. Proceeds from #DenverBaconAndBeer will benefit Metro CareRing and Project Angel Heart. Your ticket gets you in to the Bacon and Beer Fest where you'll be free to sample the dishes and the beer. There will be other people there with the same intention, so remember to share. They will be releasing more details in the next few weeks, including participant and ticketing info. Denver Beer Festivus (Denver) - [PRESS RELEASE] Denver is home to almost 40 breweries in operation, and 20 more breweries are in active development. To celebrate these breweries, Imbibe Events and Denver Off The Wagon will host the annual Denver [only] Beer Festivus, a beer festival for the rest of us, on Dec. 13 from 3 - 6:30pm at the McNichols Building at 144 West Colfax. Last year’s festival featured 25 breweries with roughly 1,000 craft beer enthusiasts and yet again, an amazing dance party. This year, more than 60 breweries have been invited to participate. In order to qualify for an invitation, a brewery must have a Denver address. Denver Beer Festivus is open to adults 21 and older. Lone Tree Brewing Co (Lone Tree) - October will bring several tasty beer tappings. On October 1st they tapped "Mr. Moo's Pumpkin Brew". On Wed. Oct. 8th they will tap an India Pale Lager. Then on Wed. Oct. 15th they will tap their "Chili Pepper Red". And also on Sat. October 25th, stop in for a special tapping of "Hop Zombie Red IPA". Also - October is breast cancer awareness month and LTBC is joining the fight! They will be donating a percentage of tasting room sales to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation uses 91% of all donations for research and education. Please stop by this month for a beer, pink growler or glass and help support this great cause. And on Sat. Oct 11th from 4pm to close they will host a Breast Cancer Survivors Party. They will have pink growlers, glasses and koozies for sale, and they will be giving away pink koozies for any group that has a tab of $100 or more! Wonderland Brewing Co (Broomfield) - Coming up this week at Wonderland: Tonight is Geeks Who Drink Trivia at 7:30pm. On Tues. Oct. 7th at 6:30pm is a Singles Ping Pong Tournament. Win free pints! Wed. Oct 8th is Lady Wednesday where ladies enjoy $2 off pints all day. On Thurs. Oct 9th get $2 off all WonderCans. Fri. Oct. 10th brings live music from Megan Burtt at 6pm. On Sat. The Very Nice Brewing Co (Nederland) - Coming up on Saturday, October 25th from 12 noon to 1pm, Very Nice Brewing will celebrate their 2nd anniversary party in their taproom. There will be door prizes, beer giveaways and live music from Caribou Mountain Collective (6-10pm). BRU handbuilt ales & eats (Boulder) - [PRESS RELEASE] Beer Chef / Founder Ian Clark of BRU handbuilt ales & eats received his first Great American Beer Festival award this Saturday, October 4th. LOCH Wee Heavy Scotch Ale won silver in the Scotch Ale category at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival. A classic Scotch Ale landing at 8.2% ABV, LOCH is malty and smoky with notes of sherry and a slight amount of caramelized sugar with a dark amber brown color. Left Hand Brewing Co (Longmont) - [PRESS RELEASE] Left Hand Brewing Company won 3 Silver Medals at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival, the largest commercial beer competition in the world featuring 5500 entries from 1300 breweries. Left Hand took honors for their Milk Stout, Smokejumper Smoked Imperial Porter, and Black Jack Porter. The Longmont brewery received the highest medal count for Colorado and tied with only 3 other breweries for the most medals won overall. 2014 marks Left Hand’s second year in a row achieving a 3 medal win, for a total of 9 medals in the last 5 years. Left Hand’s medal count highlights the brewery’s notable prowess for brewing dark styles. Seven of Left Hand’s 9 wins over 5 years have been for darker beers including 2X Milk Stout, 2X Fade to Black, 2X Smokejumper, and Black Jack Porter. Dillon Dam Brewery (Dillon) - Over the weekend, Dillon Dam put on a new Extra Special British Ale (ESB) on tap. Roaring Fork Beer Co (Carbondale) - Their brewer's brought back a lot of wine barrels from Denver over the weekend so that they can begin working on their barrel aging program. Crazy Mountain Brewing Co (Edwards) - Announcing a temporary closure of their taproom this week from Monday through Thursday for maintenance.
