Colorado Beer NewsToday is Black Friday. It's the craziest and most hectic shopping day of the year. Or at least it used to be before businesses decided to break tradition and start doing sales before Thanksgiving. If you've been up since the crack of dawn waiting in line for an early opening to get the best deals of the year then you're going to need to unwind with a craft beer later today. There's even some doorbuster deals at your local Colorado breweries today. That should make the loss of sleep well worth it. Have you gotten your shopping list figured out yet? What's the Ex-Pat Series and what's an Algerian Biere de Garde? Their Ex-Pat Series explores French colonialism past and present through indigenous ingredients. FATE Brewing Co (Boulder) - FATE Brewing Company is expanding. Their new expansion project will include a new barrel aging room, improved production facilities and nearly 100% production capacity increase. Dos Rios Vienna -Style Lager will also continue through Thanksgiving. They are looking forward to releasing their Storm King Dunkel Lager once turkey day is over. The Storm King Dunkel is an amazing example of the Munich Dunkel style. It appears dark brown in color with a garnet tint. It has a rich Munich malt sweetness with hints of chocolate, nuts, and caramel in the aroma. The flavor is dominated by rich complex Munich malts and Melanoidins, reminiscent of bread crusts. Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project (Denver) - Crooked Stave has just recently acquired a lot more space at their old Barrel Cellar location on 46th Avenue and will be moving their brewhouse back to that location by early December. Their square footage at the Barrel Cellar is increasing from 3,000 to 12,000 sq. ft. This will free up their Tasting Room at The Source to expand to more seating and allow Crooked Stave to have more room for barrel aging and producing more beer. Lambics Against Leukemia (Denver) - There's a fundraiser going on right now aimed at benefiting a member of the craft beer community. Matt Meyer, the beer manager at Freshcraft has a young son, Owen, who's battling leukemia. Owen's going through a 3-year treatment plan to fight B Cell All Leukemia. To help fund Owen's lengthy and costly treatment, a series of raffles has been put together called Lambics Against Leukemia. Basically, for every $10 dollars given, donors receive an entry into a raffle to win beer. The beer has been generously donated from both private cellars, and multiple breweries including Crooked Stave, Casey Brewing and Blending, Dry Dock, and others. There's also a listing of the beers that'll be given away and there's pretty insane offerings up for grabs. The last day to donate and get entered into the raffle is Friday, November 28th. Dry Dock Brewing Co (Aurora) - [PRESS RELEASE] Dock Brewing Company is releasing its beloved Vanilla Porter in canned 6-packs. Celebrate the latest addition to the brewery’s canned offerings at the beer’s release party at Dry Dock’s new tasting room, Canoe Room at North Dock, on Friday, November 28 from 12pm to 6pm. Vanilla Porter was created by Dry Dock co-owner Kevin DeLange and first brewed in 2006 on the 7-barrel brewhouse in the original 800 square-foot tasting room and brewery, known to many now as “South Dock.” This beer is a classic English-style brown porter with more than a quarter pound of Madagascar vanilla beans added per barrel. It was an immediate hit— After winning a Gold Medal at the Colorado State Fair, Vanilla Porter was one of the first Dry Dock home fleet beers made available year-round. Dry Dock will celebrate the release of Vanilla Porter in cans on Friday, November 28 at Canoe Room at North Dock from 12pm to 6pm. Crystal Springs Brewing Co (Louisville) - During their recent 1st anniversary party they premiered several new beers and are now rotating them through their taproom - Imperial Red, Imperial IPA, American Stout, Belgian style amber (South of Marilyn). They also have their popular Cherry Saison (Chaisson) on tap right now. They just finished fermenting their first Gose (pronounced go-sah, like Rosa), a German style saline and sour beer brewed with salt, coriander and sour mash. It's somewhat tart, with lemony notes, a slightly salty finish and is amazingly refreshing. Today they are brewing this year’s holiday beer, 12, which they plan to release on 12/13/14. New Belgium Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Look for a new beer in their Garage Series to be on draft only. New Belgium recently released "Black is the New Wit", a dark wheat beer made with coriander and orange peel. This is a limited release and you won't find it in bottles. Odell Brewing Co (Ft. Collins) - Just as one expansion ends, another begins. Odell Brewing has plans to add 8 new 6,500 barrel fermenters to their tank farm by early December. Look for cranes to be hoisting those 10,000 pound vessels into place very soon. Their fermentation capacity will jump from 110,000 to 155,000 barrels. Their total brewhouse capacity will then hit 300,000 barrels per year. Also, by the end of 2015, they plan to take over and move into the recently acquired Monument & Stone company next door and create a whole new wood cellar and expanded offices. Originally, this day was designed to show world leaders that using better communication rather than force was the best way to settle conflicts. If you have a conflict with someone, take the first step and try to talk with that person today. Say "Hello" and go from there. This seasonal bottle will release on Friday, November 28th, 2014, starting at noon when Copper Kettle’s doors open. “Snowed In”, an imperial oatmeal stout made with locally roasted coffee from Pablo’s Coffee in Denver and dark chocolate, aged in High West Distillery bourbon barrels for four months. The company increased the alcohol by volume this year to 12.1%. Copper Kettle Brewing Company will be hand wax dipping the bottles so they are perfect for aging. Alpine Dog Brewing Co (Denver) - They've been doing soft openings all week, including today. But on Saturday, November 22nd is Alpine Dog's official Grand Opening celebration. Fat Abbey Brewing Co (Delta) - BREWERY UPDATE: Yes, they are moving ahead with the brewery! They have acquired a vessel for a mash/lauter tun that will allow them to do up to 10 barrels! They also have 5 temporary fermentors that will hold up to 8 bbls each. Price quotes are being obtained from manufacturers for a 10 bbl brew kettle, and they are searching for and pricing out the rest of the equipment including a pump, hoses, bottle filler, etc. They will initially be brewing and bottling with distribution and no taproom. However, they will continue to search for and acquire a building for a taproom sometime after they begin brewing. [No address yet, Delta, CO]

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Name Your PC Day. Most of us spend a lot of time in front of our computers or personal electronic devices. In many cases, we spend more time with our devices than we do with our friends and family. Ever stop to wonder why? If we spend so much time with something, shouldn't that something have a name? What do you call your favorite electronic device? (Other than a swear word when it doesn't work right that is). Let's just hope they don't become self-aware anytime soon. Here's what's happening around the Colorado craft beer scene today Thursday, November 20th, 2014. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Metro Denver

Freshcraft (Denver) - Tonight is a special Dogfish Head Tapping and Keep the Glass night starting at 7pm. They will tap a few special kegs including 120 Minute IPA, Bitches Brew, and 90 Minute IPA. Brewery reps will be on hand to pass out glassware and other shwag. Then, coming up on Monday, November 24th at 7pm will be a fun tapping event from Left Hand Brewing Company. They will pour one of the last kegs of the year of Warrior, Fade to Black and also the new release of Barrel Aged Wake Up Dead Imperial Stout. Grist Brewing Co (Highlands Ranch) - Get your dog all cleaned up and ready for a photo shoot. Bring in your dog this Sunday, November 23rd from 11am to 3pm for "Santa Paws". New Day Animal Allies, in conjunction with DiTirro Pet Photography and Grist Brewery, is hosting its Inaugural "Santa Paws" Holiday Portrait Event. Time and talent from these businesses are being donated for this event. Your $20 donation will go directly to help the animals. Sessions are limited to dogs only; no cats please! The sessions may be of one or multiple dogs and may include owners/families, if desired. They will have Santa Claus available for photos to or you can simply utilize their winter background scene. Props will also be available including reindeer ears, Santa hats, and wrapped presents. Electronic imaged will be emailed directly to participants. Reserve your spot today. Odyssey Beerwerks (Arvada) - Odyssey will be hosting their 2nd Annual Odyssey Beer'dwerks event in the taproom on Saturday, November 29th. The Facial Hair competition begins around 6:00pm, but they'll be raising money all day long. And Odyssey Beerwerks will be donating $1 from each pint sold from open to close (12:00pm - 11:00pm). This year's categories include: Best Mustache, Best Beard, Laziest/Worst facial hair, Ladies Showcase (wear your best fake/real facial hair), Judge's Fave (Best in Show) and maybe other awards if the mood strikes. Costumes are encouraged to showcase the overall hirsuteness! Prizes: beer, in sort of container. And maybe some Odyssey merch. Potential fame and fortune once photos hit the interwebs. Registration is from 5:00 - 6:00pm, day of the event, and there is no fee to enter (although they highly encourage donations). Judging begins at 6:00pm. The Facial Hair Club of Boulder will be helping out, and there will be energetic rockabilly music from Jim Jamm Jimmy. Plus the Barbed Wire Reef food truck will be on hand. Our Mutual Friend Malt & Brew (Denver) - OMF is throwing a big 2nd Anniversary Party on Friday, December 12th from 2pm to midnight. They will be doing a bottle release of their American Wild Ale collab with the Populist (200 or so bottles corked and caged) as well as tapping: Chocolate Oak aged Brown ale collab with Ritual Chocolate, American Wild Ale collab with the Populist, Belgian Strong Golden Ale Collab with Baere Brewing, Barreled & Bretted Chinook Red Ale
Barleywine, All Colorado Malt & Hop Pale Ale, All Colorado Malt & Hop Chinook Red Ale, Farmhouse Ale, Brown Ale, Novo Coffee Stout, Proletariat, and an India Pale Ale. Food by Texorado. Renegade Brewing Co (Denver) - [PRESS RELEASE] Renegade Brewing launches in Kansas. Renegade Brewing Company, located in Denver, will be starting out-of-state sales in December by launching distribution to Kansas. The brewing company, which opened in June 2011, just started distributing to the entire state of Colorado in October. Previously the small brewery was self-distributed along the front range where it grew recognition for beers such as Redacted Rye IPA and Elevation Triple IPA. After signing on with Elite Brands of Colorado, they proceeded to increase their presence in Colorado. For the last 5 months Renegade has been renovating a 15,000 square foot production space at 1st and Santa Fe. This compound once housed Stark Lumber yard who is vacating the space after 120 years of business. A project by the Sherman Agency, the space will be renamed "The Yard" and will house a number of local storefronts. Renegade is moving fermentation and packaging to the new space on 1st and Santa Fe and will soon offer tours. Their current home on 9th and Santa Fe will continue to house the tasting room that is open 7 days a week. The increased production capacity of the new project has allowed Renegade to look beyond their home state and consider outside markets. Neighboring Kansas will be their first step in interstate commerce. Renegade has signed on with Worldwide Wine and Spirits in Lexena, KS. Worldwide currently distributes other Colorado breweries such as Avery, Great Divide, Left Hand, and Twisted Pine. Product has already been shipped to the Worldwide warehouse in Lexena and will hit taps and store shelves the 1st of December. ### [925 W 9th Ave, Denver, CO]

Baere Brewing Co (Denver) - There are some new artwork prints up on the walls at Baere Brewing from Andrew Hoffman. Plus, there is a new beer release today - "A Dark Belgian". It hits the taps at 5pm tonight. Plus, Dead Dog Chocolate is also in the house tonight to celebrate their Fall Stout collaboration. [320 Broadway Ste E, Denver, CO]

Big Choice Brewing (Broomfield) - There will be a beer release tomorrow (Friday, November 21st). Stop in to try their "Starry Night Cascadian Dark", a black IPA. This one is a mighty good one too they tell me. Choose wisely. [7270 W 118th Pl, Broomfield, CO]

Mountain Toad Brewing (Golden) - Josh's Sorachi Saison paired with Jesse's art! Both can be yours tonight! Enjoy this amazing experimental Saison with Japanese Sorachi Ace hops which impart a strong lemon tartness to a clean, dry finishing French Ale.
