Colorado Beer News 110314

Colorado Beer NewsToday is National Sandwich Day. This is a day to celebrate one of America's favorite food forms. Just about everything we eat these days can be put into a sandwich. All it takes are a couple slices of bread and your favorite thing to eat and Voila! It becomes a sandwich. Celebrate this day by making your own or ordering a sandwich and pairing it with your favorite locally crafted beer. After all, beer is meant to be paired with delicious food (and not that pile of Halloween candy you've got left over). Here's what's happening around the Colorado craft beer scene today Monday, November 3rd, 2014. If you aren't reading this article on, you don't know what you're missing.

Yak & Yeti Restaurant & Brewpub (Aurora) - [PRESS RELEASE] Yak and Yeti Brewpub was recognized this weekend with two Medals at the All Colorado Beer Festival held in Colorado Springs, CO. Yak and Yeti earned two of the 37 medals awarded at the competition. Yak & Yeti's Namaste Pilsner was recognized as the best in the Lagers category, beating out the other pilsners, amber lagers, Oktoberfests and dark lagers present. “We wanted to see if this beer would gain another state medal as it has been rocking in 2014 with a Gold Medal at the Jefferson County Fair and a Silver Medal at the Colorado State Fair” said Adam Draeger, Head Brewer. “Now I regret having not submitting it to the GABF this year” he said. Also recognized as the second best in the Fruit Beers category was Yak & Yeti's GF Apple Ale, a gluten-free beer designed to taste like a hard cider. “The beer looks like a cider, tastes like a cider, but is technically an ale by brewery standards using 51% sorghum for the malt and the minimum hops” said Draeger. “It's been very hard to win a medal for this beer since it doesn't compete well against other gluten-free beers, judges usually say it tastes very good but doesn't taste like a beer." Breweries in Colorado cannot brew cider without a winery license and Yak & Yeti Brewpub only has a license to produce beer and a liquor license to sell other manufacturers' wines and spirits over the bar. Stats: OG 1.044, IBU 23, ABV 5.0%. And also, Hooligan Double IPA: This double IPA has more intense bitterness, a little more malty sweetness to maintain balance, and is slightly higher in alcohol.
