Denver Beer Co (Denver) - [PRESS RELEASE] National Repeal Day on Dec. 5 marks 81 years to the day that alcohol prohibition ended, and this year, it will also mark the unveiling of Denver Union Station’s new specialized beer, Union Kolsch. Made exclusively for DUS by Denver Beer Company, the new brew will launch on Dec. 5 with a public evening-long celebration beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Terminal Bar inside Denver Union Station’s Great Hall. Guests will enjoy tastings of Union Kolsch, drink specials and entertainment. Union Kolsch is the product of a partnership between the Denver Union Station Alliance partners and Denver Beer Company, which Steve Kurowski from the Colorado Brewers Guild helped coordinate. The Denver Beer Company’s talented team of brewers worked with with the DUS team to create a new beer that would celebrate the reopening of Denver Union Station while honoring Denver’s reputation as a craft brew leader. “We began talking to the owners of Denver Beer Company last year about creating a special brew to not only celebrate Colorado’s beer culture, but to pay homage to Denver’s rich beer history,” said Joe Vostrejs of the Denver Union Station Alliance. “After four months and numerous iterations, we believe we’ve struck that perfect balance with the delicious Union Kolsch.” The traditional German ale was inspired by Denver’s rich German brewing history and is a bright, straw-colored ale with a white head. Malty and lightly hopped, the well-balanced beer has a touch of fruit and a clean, refreshing finish. “We used German techniques when brewing Kolsch that reflected the vibrant German brewing culture of pre-prohibition Denver in the 1880s,” said Charlie Berger, co-owner of Denver Beer Company. “Union Station is such a landmark in Denver, and it was important to us for our beer to commemorate the reopening, while regarding its history. We are honored to be a part of this project and to feature a beer that celebrates both the past and present.” Union Kolsch will only be available at The Terminal Bar, which serves over 30 Colorado-craft beers on tap, and Denver Beer Company’s Platte location just across the tracks from Union Station.
