Colorado Beer NewsToday is the last day of June and the beginning of a short holiday workweek. Even though it's a Monday, most of us can look forward to a shorter work week. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, June 30th, 2014. If you aren't reading this article on FermentedlyChallenged.com, you don't know what you're missing.

The new can template features the Denver skyline as well as a map of Denver in the background. “We wanted to update the look of the can and create more unity in the design of the beers we make.” says Andy Brown, Wynkoop’s head brewer. “We are Denver’s first craft brewery, so I made this beer and named it in tribute to that back when I started working there in 2008.” The beer is currently being made exclusively at the brewpub using our innovative hopinator device, and cans will be available in 6-packs starting July 3rd. Mile High Pale Ale will also replace Silverback, which is no longer produced by Wynkoop, in the Mile High Mix 12-pack box. Colorojo Imperial Red Ale, which originally came out as a seasonal, will be transitioning into the year-round lineup and will be the next beer to move to the new design. Patty’s Chile Beer will be back in 4-packs mid-July, and will feature a new label as well. “The seasonal, hand-labeled cans will continue to feature quirkier art, but will still be easy to connect to the other Wynkoop beers on the shelf once they are all in the new template,” says Brown. Patty’s, named after Westword founder Patricia Calhoun, will follow Kurt’s Mile High Malt, which was released in April and featured a Kurt Vonnegut self-portrait. [1634 18th St, Denver, CO]

Colorado Beer News 062614

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Bar Code Day. Today is the 40th anniversary of the very 1st product to be barcoded and scanned at a checkout counter at a supermarket. The product happened to be a pack of Wrigley's gum. Ever since then, the world became inundated with those oddly spaced black bars on every product imaginable. Good thing we don't need to barcode our pint glasses when we order a beer at our local brewery. Let's just hope we all don't end up being required to get barcode tattoos for identification someday. Other holidays today include: National Handshake Day and the 17th anniversary of the 1st Harry Potter book being published. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Thursday, June 26th, 2014. If you aren't reading this article on FermentedlyChallenged.com, you don't know what you're missing.

Oskar Blues (Longmont/Lyons) - Oskar Blues' Burning Can Beer Festival raised $45,000+ for the town of Lyons Parks & Recreation Department and the Colorado Brewers Guild via the CAN'd AID Foundation. [PRESS RELEASE] Outdoor enthusiasts, craft beer aficionados, adventure sports fans, and live music lovers descended on the open space in the unaffected areas of Bohn Park in Lyons, CO, for the Burning CAN Beer Festival and the Lyons Outdoor Games. It was a day filled with beautiful ColoRADo sunshine, great beer, and an overwhelming amount of support for a community still recovering from the devastating floods that washed through the state last September. Fifty-two innovative and can-centric breweries from across the U.S. gathered to create the largest and most successful Burning CAN Beer Festival to-date, drawing an attendance of nearly 2,000 people under views of Rocky Mountain National Park. Oskar Blues Brewery announced on Wednesday morning that all proceeds from the festival tallied a grand total of over $45,000 for the CAN'd Aid Foundation, all of which will be distributed to local benefactors, the Colorado Brewers Guild, and the Town of Lyons Parks & Recreation Department-an organization still seeking resources to repair much of the damaged infrastructure of Lyons. "There was an amazing vibe at the 2014 Burning Can & Lyons Outdoor Games. It was rad to see the town of Lyons, volunteers, supporting sponsors along with participating athletes and brewers come together to create something that tapped into the spirit of why we call Lyons home, while raising funds to keep that momentum rolling," says Lyons resident & Oskar Blues marketing director Chad Melis. Another fun spin on a traditional saison, the PINK PEPPERCORN SAISON delivers a mild berry sweetness and a lingering peppery finish (6.5% abv). This is a small batch and won’t last long! Next up, a Brett saison aged in a Cabernet barrel, MOWGLI is dry and oaky with a little of that Brett funk we all know and love (6.5% abv). Lastly, ENKIDU is a Brett golden strong ale aged on tart cherries. At 8% abv, it is deceptively strong with a perfect balance of tart and sweet.
